Conflict creates excitement.... adds emotion to what... at the moment is an emotionless environment. I'm with you there Raynes. Infinity will be hosting more "Faction Fueds" in the future... unless some other manner of religion-conflict arises... We're always welcome for more ways to get people riled up... stick to what you're good at right?
Twiddling his thumbs,
Less love, marriage, and harmony... More conflict, death, and war!

Raynes likes men.thurgond wrote:It just came to me, shouldn't the title to this thread be "Less love, weddings, and harmony... More conflict, death, war and marriage!"?
See, 1st thing we do is marry Raynes off to some fat Frahar chick who only wants him to forage all day. When he tries to leave her, his inlaws come after him. Everyone gets to pick a side until the lawyer Kipesta's show up and kill us all.

Re: Less love, marriage, and harmony... More conflict, death, and war!
Meaningful conflict adds emotion. Meaningless conflict is just killing. I don't consider faction hatred to be very meaningful. Except to fanatics who actually identify with the philosophy of the faction, but that's not going to cover a large segment of the population any more than marriages are.
I think the best way to get a "normal person" to care about a conflict is to make that conflict about protecting something he values. But right now in the game there is really nothing we value that can be taken away from us. Conflict depends on risk.
Weddings and celebrations are helping people to find things they value in the game world, pulling them in and making them care about Atys. I think that has more value in terms of the conflicts to come than any squabbling we can do currently would have.

i dont know if i am right or wrong here but anyway.
setting up a conflict outside of the game is for me pointles especially when you get the gm to help because then its a conflict under their control.
and to be honest ryzom became very much a carebear game. where it is wrong to kill other players.
and as somebody said you dont plan conflict it happens.
anyway i have the feeling amitst will tell me to shut up again so ill do that

Do as you will as long as you keep the people that don't want to take part in these kinds of foolish games out of the battle. Not everyone is happy to be forced into PvP. As long as there is no neutral mode, you should be very careful about how you pick battles except you want to create a lot of frustration by some players and make them leave the game eventually.
More often it creates frustration. Some people have enough conflicts in RL and don't need more fighting in their past time.brithlem wrote:Conflict creates excitement....

So as predicted, I log in ~6PM EDT, and go right to Nexus. Only person there is a guildie besides me. I claimed Nexus for me, and although he was not totally thrilled with this, wanting it for himself, he relented.
After that, I did not see another homin in Nexus for 4 hours. I guess there is not a lot worth fighting over there.

Yeah I didn't have time to log in last night. Keep your guard as you never know when I might appear and strike you down.marct wrote:So as predicted, I log in ~6PM EDT, and go right to Nexus.
