We are superior, that is why you think we feel we are superior.raynes wrote:I'm game for a conflict against the Matis. They do feel they are superior. Just think the Matis want control of the the Nexus becuase it's like their home. The other 3 races want to beat them down because they have attitudes and they don't want them to have control over a neutral part of Atys.
I agree that fighting someone just because they are different is rather dull, but I'd rather a less soap opera approach and more of a solid cause. The lore does push the idea that the Matis seek power and control and if given the chance would take over all the other lands. Maybe something like the other races have allowed the Matis in their borders and let them take resources, but due to a new law the Matis have started to block any race from using their lands.geezas wrote: Edit: fighting somebody because they are different is what I see on the news every day (if I watch it at all) make it worth while, fyrix's sugestions made me chuckle and seems a good start to foster some basic hatred![]()
The problem is that type of combat has no real meaning behind it.vinnyq wrote:The guides are actually setting up the Gliadators event right now and that's a form of conflict. If they actually go all the way and make it a long standing league with Champion place holder and people trying to knock them down, that's a source of constant "healthy" conflict right there. It'll be the first Official Atysian Sport (well after Yubo-ball). And if they extend that idea further and have "team" combats and competition, you can start having official team and mascot ...
Yes, look where peaceful RP has gotten the game so far. Look around you in the game, it's dead. There is no excitement among the players. People don't have anything to care about. Instead of a game full of conflict and meaningful actions we have a game where a fake wedding with a GM reading a poem is a big deal.madnak wrote:Conflict can only have meaning through suspension of disbelief. That is, until players can actually affect Atys. The fact is, no matter what we do there will be no change. Therefore any risk involved is an illusion. And without risk there really can't be conflict. Unless the players take imaginary RP stuff seriously, it will always be on the level of team sports.
You have always been strongly against imagination and suspension of disbelief in RP dynamics Raynes, and I think that is why your old events never really took off. Planning a fight is only going to bring out PvPers who want to play "sports."
I believe "peaceful" RP is the root of "conflict" RP. Until the characters value something, there is nothing to take from them. No source of conflict. So things like weddings and festivals are really paving the way for meaningful conflict. It can't just spring out of nowhere. When we have a good context for it, I think the conflict will arrive naturally.
