Herbivores???

Post by larwood »

Ok, while we are all debating Haddo, and his infamous jewels, and starting a war to kill all the matis from atys.... I went to lunch and thought of something....

I noticed a squirrel on a grassy hill... and a couple approaching that same hill. When the squirrel noticed the approaching people, it bolted up a tree, never being noticed by these "potential" predators.

I thought about Ryzom mobs... and the herbivores. They are all like cows! They never run from you. Think about it. In real life, how many herbivores in their native enviornment actually stick around when a human is present.. very few!

Think of it... if in ryzom, there were mobs, even up to lvl 250, that were super easy to kill, as far as HP goes.... but the task was to get within killing range. That would be cool. Think of RL hunting... where people have to camp for days, and run all over who-knows-where to get a shot at "The Buck"...

Say... these anit-homin mobs... had like a 100 meter detection ability... so that when an homin came within that area, it took off. You would have to get teams up, to come it at different angles... it would be sweet!

(anyway... just another rambling on here.)

Well, not only do they not run away from you, they run up to you and follow you around! Like tye yubos who peed on our pants, and the Arana who tries to play with you. I think that's just because they're still unaccostomed to our killing way. Once they learn, they'll run from us in fear, like the squirrel. Ah yes, the mighty squirrel, who has also fallen.

p.s. I think if you /say shooo in around chat when a herb is following you around, they'll break off. Try it!

p.p.s. the mob AI mechanism is there, just for herbs toward carnivores. You see them running away from carnies. They just don't perceive us as carnies atm.

The Brown Rabbits in AC2 are like this, they scatter if you get too close or pick one of them off with ranged attacks. Would make things more interesting if that happend in this game.
I also remember the fun that happened if you attacked a Baby Rabbit in AC1 way back when: every single rabbit within radar range would mob you. That was a hoot seeing rampaging gangs of bunnies run into town after some player.

I've been told they did used to run away in Beta, but players deemed it to be annoying :)

hard to implement
better things to do
cool idea, but could get really annoying if implemented certain ways\

Duh, it would be annoying if they all ran away. Just like when I try to kill a Slayer Torbak, I die... thats annoying too!

I'm saying that some herbivores... so you would have to hunt them... not just wait at their spawn, or whatever. Make it much more interesting i think.

The only Herbis that I see doing this would be like Yubos and Frippos. People taht are low level would have a hard time leveling for awhile.

Maybe if they moved if you tried killing them to much. Kind of like the way Timaris scatter when a Varinx attacks ones. Yubos kind of do that...but they don't scatter off scared. More like the scatter off because they're a bit bored. lol

But think of a Boss, that had this behavior that I have brought up. Dont you think that would be kinda cool? Even a boss at lvl 250. You could never get him solo... you would have to come at him from all sides.

i think it would be fun... but i'm kinda wacko.

Oh you mean you actually want to hunt? Like real life hunting? Yeah man, you're insane. Who wants to have to chase and track their prey, we just wanna run up to it and whack it.

note: some herbs do have social behavior where attacking one will bring the lot to attack you. Don't know how you can miss that. It's the first noobie mistake I made aftering getting off noob island.
