For now, I'm taking a break from this game. The lag/rubberbanding/etc is amazing bad. Didn't have a problem til in the past few days, played just fine til then. Not to mention, as I approach level 90 and still being forced to use q50 weapons/armor due to being a tryker(and not having q100 harvestable mats available), and our lack of any kind of civilization events (I don't care if its just filler, it's something ay?), it just hasn't been fun. These things are known by nevrax, they are working on them, I know. But til it's working properly, I'd rather not bring the frustration of trying to enjoy something that isn't working as intended.
Good luck on getting things fixed, and I do hope you fix them soon. Til then, I'll keep my eye's on the boards in case the situation is fixed.
Adieu~
Zzei
Tryker - 71 1h/88 2h Melee Warrior
P.S. I really do love this game, and want to enjoy its breath taking world again. Hope to see you back in game soon~
Taking a break...
Re: Taking a break...
I agree. I'm not sure if my connection problems are due to my system or the server--more likely a combination of both--but I can only play for an hour or so at a time without getting frustrated and aggravated at the clunkiness of movement. Besides the rubberbanding issue that everyone seems to be suffering from, whenever I turn to the left or the right, it's like I've turned 90 degrees. There's no subtlety to the movement. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it more likely a problem with my system, which just meets the min requirements?
At any rate, I count myself among the ranks who feel this game has some definite potential, but at the same time it feels like too much work just to play. Lag, rubberbanding, and clunky movement = let me go back to real life; may be a blessing in disguise. =)

Re: Taking a break...
I love the game, and agree with you. The lag issues over the past couple of days has been awful. I'll continue to play, but the clock is ticking. Oct. 23rd would mark my one month trial period.
I can't say I'm happy about the patching & testing methods. Weeks away to Patch 1, that seems odd & out of stance. Certianly we wouldn't want patch's to the current problems opening up new ones. That raises another issue; am I alone thinking it's nuts that the test servers is only available those that pre-ordered this game!?!
I started this game with the thought that I would for the majority of my time be a team player. Playing with my close RL friends or with the good company that I meet ingame. When these players arn't ingame, I don't really want to solo. I don't want to become too distant in levels from them to alter the gaming experience, and when they're not online I had hoped to play test the patches and new content.
However, this is not the case and thus this limits my positive gaming experience.
Fixes should be implemented in a timely manner (seven days is my thinking for most issues); and content and patches should be open for ALL customers to test. Doing so would greatly increase the likelyness of catching bugs or other content that needs fixing prior to release to the main servers.
That's my 2 cents,
Thank you.

Re: Taking a break...
This is one of the reasons that I am NOT rushing off the newb area. This game is NOT about the end game, that is one thing I read over and over in the web sight info and manual. And it really shows in the world, you have almost EVERYTHING about the game by level 30, certainly by 50; and the rest of the game is just improving upon the basics.
I understand that there is an player type that HAS to rush to the top levels ASAP at ALL costs, but there IS a price to pay, and it seems that you are paying it. First you missed ALOT in the game by rushing past it, then you assume that since you didn't see it, it isn't there, but it IS.
There is SO much to learn and do. I spent three DAYS mapping resource nodes in Fyros newbie land, only to find new nodes the next day, and the next, and the next.
You DO need to slow down and take a break, but not neccessary FROM the game, but from the RACE. You need to understand one fact, there will ALWAYS be someone taller, better looking, with more money, a higher level, better education, more friends, more power than you. It is not what you have it is what you do with it. And one more thing, It is NOT the destination, it is the journey, it is NOT the end of the path, but the traveling of the path that matters.
Try another race, for instance Fyros. For one, harvesting is a BREEZE, you can't take a STEP without tripping over a node, and when you prospect and find something you don't want, turn 20 degrees and you will find another node, likely something you do want. I was able to get to almost 50 forager in roughly a week of rather casual play (less than 10 hours a day, and NOT power foraging. Most of that poking around just looking for nodes to map, only about 10 to 20 hours of honest GRINDING levels for SP).
I have also noted that the Fyros community is VERY helpful, but other races are a tad different, not necessarily hostile, but not the family cooperation that I have found common in Fyros newb island.
Without asking for a THING I got a FULL suit of basic level ten light armor better than newb gear and two Q20 basic daggers WAY better than newb dagger, just for sharing a few node locations and helping to map a few others. I was naked until I BOUGHT things in Matis territory and couldn't find FIVE nodes, and what I found did NOT go together into ANYTHING. And people were a tad less friendly there. Tryker lands, when I was there, were basically two guilds, using shout as their guild chat, and rushing FULL throttle to mainland. It was not as warm as in Beta.
I was in beta, so I got to learn a bit before release, but I have still learned something new about the game every day that I have played it, and mostly from other players. If I had been pushing to level whatever, I would have missed something.
As far as the "storyline, I have heard ALOT of people cry about it NOT being in game. Well SOME of it already IS, in the welcomer mission scripts. Try this, make one of EACH race you haven't already run through that mission and run that mission (I think the masked race welcomer mission is STILL broken, so we don't GET their point of view). Then READ EVERY WORD, do NOT just skim it as fast as you can, read it like a sci fi novel and get INTO the story. EACH of the trainers has roughly the same character role as their counterparts world wide, it is the "point of view" that is different (I call it the storyline racism. I hate racism in game or out, but since it IS part of the history of the game...I will read it and accept it is there, even if I do NOT play the exact ROLE that I am supposed to by refusing to hate anyone for any reason until they GIVE me a very very good reason to hate them).
Then...since you have posted here, I know you already know how to find the forums. That is ONE good thing, many in game do NOT know about the forums and miss a key part of the game.
Ok find the backstory ON the forum and READ IT...ALL of it. Now go back into game and LOOK for the story, not in NPC's, and not neccessarily in interactions with mobs. Look around you, LOOK UP into the night sky. Look at the tendrils of our living world that are GROWING over your heads. Think about how the world is going to be changing with or WITHOUT our help, one day, the newb islands will be covered with those tendrils and will be UNDERGROUND. I can see in six months to a YEAR the need to move the newb lands UP a level, due to some HORRID (gm controled) invasion of the kitins that kills everything, and only survivors manage to crawl up onto the tendrils somehow (some device that gm characters make from peices from each race maybe).
I really don't understand the idea that you can buy an online game AT release and expect it to be as smoothe as silk, competed ALL the way to top levels on day one. It has NEVER happened in the history of MMORPG's and I don't honestly expect it ever will.
This isn't Neverwinter Nights, you shouldn't be trying to get to the end of a module. There IS NO GOAL, There IS no finish line!
I can see that by the time I get to where I want to be in crafting (50 in ALL skills and able to make ALL items at Choice Q20) I will be about 100 in foraging, 50 ish in fighting just by defending myself from agro mobs, and 40 ish in magic (just to make enchanted items and sell filled daggers with spells on them). I can see ME busy every night from now until my sons 8th birthday (he just turned FIVE).
But then I am not trying to be the BEST at anything, but trying to be the best that I can personally be.

I am not sure this is in the right thread.
But it would make a nice thread of its own called "Don't rush it my children" as some things are beautifully said.
The last time I was so moved was while watching a TV-preacher.
Re: Taking a break...
I agree for a game so new to have such lag problems is not a good thing. Whatever was done over the past week, change it back. The lag keeps getting worse.

Hrmmm...Evidently you misunderstood the point of my post, and alot about me in general. First off, I know how this game is designed, you can do everything for yourself eschewing any sense of community and keep yourself a busy little body free from the cares of the rest of the world. That's fine. You have your play style, I have mine.
I have explored MUCH of the game that is possible as a Tryker. I didn't leave the starting lands til i was 41 melee, 33 ranged, 17 magic, 25/21/24/30 craft, 25 harvest. And I had played in the open beta for almost 2 weeks, much of it in the starting lands. So there wasn't much left to explore there.
Currently my only skills aren't just concentrated on fight (even though I was working on this character to be a tanking type to start, and yes you don't have to specialize in this game per se, but sometimes, it has its uses) I did not neglect much of my other skills. My magic skills are in their 20s (HA and magic don't mix well), crafts and harvest are in their 40s. Now I could have made my own gear, but instead I decided to help support other crafters and harvesters by paying well for their goods. I mean, it's not much of an massively-multiplayer game if everyone is just out doing their own thing ey?
And I'm not the only tryker to be feeling the growing sense of frustration over not having higher gear. There are trykers with skill to make the gear. And there are trykers who are high enough to extract materials to make that gear. And these 2 groups of tryker work together to make things. But the fact that where other civilizations have the materials outside their borderlands to make this intermediary gear, we do not.
You see me as having rushed through the game. Sadly you are mistaken, this is not a whining post about lack of story and content. About 'boo-hoo' there isn't anything to do.
No, its about the degredation of game playability (compare the lag from the 23rd of sept, to now?), Its about a civilization being hindered because they are given less and of lower quality resources than every other race. It's about our civilizations events being rescheduled without notice til 7 hours after said event was supposed to occur.
I like playing a Tryker, they are there to be played. I have read on the storylines, and I like them for this. I want to explore and experience that part of the story. Not bounce around like some ADD MMO'er, getting bits and peices of storyline.
So please, before you go into such a long winded reasoning on how your way is better than mine. Try and get a full understanding of the situation. Okay mom?
Re: Taking a break...
The Tryker situation IS as bad as they say. I spent 12 ... twelve ... hours yesterday memorizing the herd activities in Bounty Beaches (it was intented to keep us OUT of zorai lands until we are high level with good gear, which of course we can't make, and our leveling is halting). I'm getting close regularly now, and will keep at it as long as I need to, so that we don't have to wait for the Zorai to get to the endgame and rescue us before we Trykers can resume playing. Please read the 4 page thread on lack of mats in Tryker land.
I'm aware that there are things to do without leveling, but have played them out in other games and RL role playing over the years. In the been there done that sense, I just need constant change in what we're fighting/etc to hold my interest in these games now. Doing quests and role playing in Tryker land isn't enough for me -- I want to see the prime roots and beyond, see and play every angle of the game that's out there.
Bye Zzei
EDIT: Sorry, I was a bit insulted. I don't think people understand the thinking of a lot of us who like to play through the levels. Say we're playing a console game, and I've been on World 6 for a while. I say, "damn I just want to get to world 7," and you say, "geez you don't have to be uber, just have fun playing on World 6!"
I realize that there are a lot of kiddies out there who play for the reasons you say, but I'm not the uber kiddie, I'm the thirtysomething woman playing that console game. A lot of us are into advancement for the same reason we ALL are when we play console games. I tend to get pretty insulted reading "relax uber kiddie" posts.

Re: Taking a break...
Everything Zzei has said here is true, and she's not the only one feelin' a bit, well..alot of frustration. Zzei's been with me since day one; I'm a crafter and harvester, she's a fighter to the core. When I can't find materials to keep her fit to explore and survive, I get frustrated. When she hits a wall and there's no one to put decent blades in her hand or protect her with armor, she gets frustrated. When *every* person's been outfitted by the plethora of crafters all basically at the same level, with identical equipment and weapons..the game stalls.
I dearly cherish Zzei and the friendship we've formed, but to understand what's happening here, ya have to grind up a Tryker character and experience it. I've played Fyros and Matis thru beta and here, so don't give me the ol' , "heck man, just try another character" routine. I like the Tryker community and the bonds we've formed. Tellin' those who've grown within the lakelands to abandon them and play another race is akin to telling a Tolkien fan, "hey man, elves are broken, make an Orc!" We shouldn't have to make an orc. The races should have been fixed before we spent 50 bucks to play 'pay-2-play' beta part II. I mean c'mon, this was noted LONG ago. They yanked the QL150 stuff out of Tryker newby island...how HARD is it to do the same type of coding for decent mats on the mainland. /boggle...
Sorry for the rant, but after stalling at 70 forage, 60 craft, 60 melee and 40 magic stuff just starts to get frustrating (there's that word again), especially since there's SO much potential here and an incredible amount of things to experience in our future. If the Trykers ever get a chance to compete with the other races in sharing these experiences. The first time I see a Matis or Zorai /region "SELLING all MELEE wpns, all choice MATS, QL150 PST!" while I'm still freakin' banging out lvl 50 pikes from what I can scrounge is the day I sit my beer on the CD for the game and find another virtual world to play in...
