Give me some in game activites that make me feel like the game goes up and beyond what others do and I will gladly shut up.

Don't worry, takes a bit more than than to hurt or annoy, just a little sad that people lack my serene patience and faith ;)

A true sandbox can only exist with total player freedom to make, well, just about anything and that, unless you have simplified and very limited tools creates chaos and an apartheid between the tech savvy and the non tech savvy.

I've got creativity out the ying-yang but I can't make models or understand scripting, so that'd be no good to me.

What we DO have is a living, breathing world where everything that is in place makes actual sense. We don't have 'monsters' hanging out and jus' chillin' we have an ecosphere, albeit limited.

Everything has a history, a place, capabilities that make sense.

WoW by comparison is simplistic and cartoonish, it is, like most MMORPGs "Ultima, only BETTAH!"

I've mentioned it before but this is what we in the TTRPG industry and online community call a 'Fantasy Heartbreaker'. Every year we see half a dozen 'D&D only BETTAH!' games come out and that's all they are.

WoW is unusual in that its actually made headway but not by actually doing anything new. The grass always looks greener I guess but they've had their patch problems their nerfing problems and, more recently an ENORMOUS PvP problem and sh*tstorm.

We can create something, stories. Our quests actually mean something in a wider context, we form part of the storyline, our names get known. If you strike the last blow against a boss kitin it actually means something, it becomes part of our servers chronicle. You get famous, known. You can create your own stories.

Things here have significance.

SoR isn't innovative enough for me in an ideal world (check what I wrote in 'If I could make an MMORPG' in the off topic forum) but its as near as damn in the current climate.

Ryzom actually makes an effort, its not bog standard SF or Fantasy, the world makes internal sense, it has plausibility, the community is fantastic and the skill system is a good halfway house between levels and not levels to placate my deep hatred of level based systems.

Taken as a whole it IS innovative in an industry becoming increasingly timid and unable, financially, to take risks.

Bravo.

"Ps.: Just one little edit since I took the time and read Jyudas post. I shared your opinion some month ago. But what íou say about the sandbox is only true if you have the possibility to make something, to change something, to create something. This is not the case. There is nothing that is not present in Wow (no thats true, name me one thing), so why not play a living world which is certanly not unique, but everything is at its place? Because they tell you that SoR is innovative although it only looks different?
I hope I didn't hurt you J, didn't mean to. This was not flaming only frustration. Peace."

Get involved in the guide and player events and/or start running your own.

Maybe collude with Dagger or other like-minded guilds?

Bosh, sorted.

By saying this, I'm not pointing fingers at any one in particular or wanting to hurt anybody's feelings.

I don't always agree with Raynes or his approach, but I appreciate his post. Raynes is not "trolling". He cares for Ryzom, and it shows in his posts. While you may not always agree with Rayne's approach or what he says, don't be a troll yourself and tell him he should leave or start name calling. Instead give some good corrective criticism. Saying its a good thing for him to leave and stuff like that is just not kewl in my opinion. I am human too and get tired of seeing someone post the same thing over and over again, but it isn't because they are trying to stir up controversy...at least I hope not. It is because they actually care about the game, and even though they can go play another mmorpg and might be doing so.....there is something about Ryzom that keeps a hold on them. I don't know about everyone else, but it has been a long time that I've played a game that has done that to me.

I'm curious to hear what you bring back from E3 Raynes as well as what I see from Nevrax from the news and telecast coverages at E3.

I trully and honestly feel a sense of anticipation that something exciting is about to happen with Ryzom just around the corner, and I hope I'm not let down. I am not saying that I don't enjoy the rp'ing and current player sponsered events, but I do long for another kitin invasion, the spring clean and out posts.

I also agrees with Raynes on this. Those Glimps of Production gets me all excited, but I still haven't seen any of those features patched in since those articles first come out. There are some really nice features and enhancements in those articles. DP altars, more storage space, new rites, etc. Releasing 1 new rite a week to the live server isn't too unreasonable. And iirc, 7 rites or some such has been on ATS for a few months now. Why won't they give them to us? Please give them to us. At least 1 at a time per week. 1 a week is plenty. And I don't see how you can't fully test ONE rite in a week.

You know something, I almost envy any new players right now that hasn't experienced Atys before. If they joined now they have about 3 months worth of content to keep them busy and the world fresh for them, and in 3 months time there will be new contents (or at least I am expecting this to be the case).

Hey Raynes, would love for you to post your QA with Nevrax if you get the chance to do it at E3. But try to play nice won't ya? :)

p.s. I am also lucky in one thing in that I haven't power level nuke or dig yet, so I still have objectives yet to be accomplished. And I am also lucky in that I want to be able to do them all in all those major skill trees, though I understand that others might not necessary want to. I still really look forward to being able to log on to Atys whenever I have a chance, but been so busy with work lately and haven't been able to.

I'll post whatever info I find out. And I'm not going to be mean or nasty when I talk to them. Quite the opposite, but there is no way I am going to meet the people behind this game face to face and not use the chance to ask some questions that I feel need to be answered.

Although I'm sure those that can afford one have had a bit of fun riding it, but for how long? Exactly: almost nothing compared to the time we spend ingame without thinking about mounts, yet how much effort, time, bugfixing has Nevrax put into this feature?
actually, the players have only themselves to congratulate for this collossal waste of time and effort. even back in beta it was clear that they were hopelessly bugged, but still the mounts were one of he foremost features that the players requested, no, demanded from nevrax last year. well, nevrax listened to their customers...
