Re: You will have to excuse me....
Some of the questions I am going to ask (or at least very similar ones):
1) To David: When I first heard about this game and read your thoughts on other MMO it was quite inspiring. I remember reading that you were tired of static games and really tired of games where the only thing to do was level. Well here we are 6-8 months into the game and Ryzom has become exactly what you were trying to avoid. The game world is static, I say this becuase for months nothing has changed in Ryzom or on Atys. There are a very few rite missions but beyond that there really isn't anything outside of leveling to keep people busy. What happened to your vision and why hasn't it appeared in the slightest fashion.
2) You have told us over and over that the storyline is very important to the game. You have made statement that lead people to beleive that the goal of Ryzom is to tell the Saga of Ryzom. You have stated on more than on occasion that you were in charge of story development and how it's implemented in the game. That is currently not the case (implementation in the game). The Saga hasn't moved any since the start of the game, if you didn't visit the website you would have no real way of learning about the story or taking part in it. What are your plans to correct this? Are we ever going to be at a point where we feel as if the story is moving forward?
3) For the past six months the people behind this game have said that they were working on "spring cleaning" and doing many of the little things we have asked about. Due to this the game has been absent of updates. How do you expect to draw new players in and keep exsisting players paying a monthly fee for a game that does not get updated?
4) Right now I can go play EQ2 have tons of mission/quest content, raids, private instances, crafting, exploration, a storyline in game, as well as a strong roleplaying environment. Or I can also go play The Matrix Online and experience a moving and on going story pushed forward by live events. Why should I play Ryzom which has no content and which the events don't seem to move the story forward when I can get those things in other games?
5) One of the biggest features pushed with this game is that it's a living ecosystem. That is misleading. Missing are things such as animal migrations due to season changes, effects of weather on the planet, water levels never change, changes in animal population due to hunting, and so on. What is your coment on this?
6) In every MMO I have ever played there was heavy interaction with NPC's. There are always ones that have personalities and always ones that have unique things to say. This is completely lacking in Ryzom. On the website you have informtion about each of the races leaders, yet there is no sign of them in game, not even a reference really. Why is Ryzom missing what seems to be one of the very basic parts of a MMO, the part that makes the story and world come alive?

Who says I'm not playing other games? I'll be very honest if I come back from E3 without a very confident feeling that things are going to change in the near future (as in new updates to the game) then I really don't think I will be continueing my subscription.mboeing wrote:Why haven't you? Re: You will have to excuse me....
"There are a very few rite missions but beyond that there really isn't anything outside of leveling to keep people busy."
Only if they're lazy and uncreative.
Alright, that's a bit of a cop out reply to that particular criticism but the lore on the website, the world, the surroundings, the cities etc all create a 'sandbox' that encourages that creativity.
Between the guide events and the player events (kudos to dagger) there is plenty to do.
"The Saga hasn't moved any since the start of the game, if you didn't visit the website you would have no real way of learning about the story or taking part in it. What are your plans to correct this? Are we ever going to be at a point where we feel as if the story is moving forward?"
New portal to Zorai from Fyros.
(Bodged - but has happened) Implementation of some goo plot.
Storyline events - such as loria's box and the amber pieces.
I consider these to be moving story forward. Taking part is limited to a degree, but players still make things happen.
"For the past six months the people behind this game have said that they were working on "spring cleaning" and doing many of the little things we have asked about. I rather suspect we'll see a bit of a patch 'whammy' after e3. Lets just keep everything crossable crossed that it goes well.
"Right now I can go play EQ2 have tons of mission/quest content, raids, private instances, crafting, exploration, a storyline in game, as well as a strong roleplaying environment. None of that actually makes any difference though does it? Its all as, if not more pre-scripted than what we have, just with a touch more 'fluff'. Instancing? Ugh! What's the point of a heroic quest everyone else and their mum has done, same with enormous boss creatures. When we do something, WE'VE actually done something.
No other large scale professional MMO has the pro-RP environment (generally - guilds and groups within big servers may be an exception) that Ryzom has. Generally speaking most people here are up for a little RP.
"One of the biggest features pushed with this game is that it's a living ecosystem. That is misleading. Animals do migrate and you do get different things of different levels in different areas in different seasons. I have sat and observed migrations, so that is already there. The weather seems to affect harvesting, but I haven't noticed any other effects. Water levels... well, you could set them at different heights in different seasons but it depends whether the water level is adjustable or hard coded into the maps, might be tricky to change whereas, I suspect, the winter change is just a tile-graphic swap. Hunting animals in some cases DOES result in longer respawns, but this seems patchy.
So most of what you mention does already exist in one form or another, I've observed it.
"In every MMO I have ever played there was heavy interaction with NPC's. There are always ones that have personalities and always ones that have unique things to say. Leaders I'll give you, but the NPCs we do interact with are played, one presumes, by guides. They have their own personalities and are FAR better than some scripted rubbish.

Re: You will have to excuse me....
Raynes I am so sad, but when I read you're post I realized every word of yours is a stab in my heart. Because they are so true. Damn this game has so many potentials, but what for? To see it die away? I had a very rough two weeks behind me in my private life, and now I just cannot make myself to log in. A lot of my friends are online, but it is very hard to log in and do nothing just chat, when you are dieing for some fun. Man it really hurts!
And to be honest I envy my brother, who playes WoW! Can you imagine this? That game is so simple, the players are (mostly) idiots and still that game lives! The cities! The NPCs! The creatures! Flying on the bats! And this could be reality in SoR!
Just one question. You remember the kitin invasion? That was fun, even bugged like it was. Nothing like that happened since then. Where are the events? Do you really think, we are able to make enough events to make this game fun, at this moment, with our limited possibilities?
Did you notice how our mood changed? A month ago everyone was happy and thought our future was bright... Now even those are yawning, who were great fans of this game.
So I beg you, tell me wheter you can make this game fun or not! 'Cos if not I will look for another game, 'cos now there is nothing for me in SoR. Only the people. But they don't come from Nevrax...
Sorry for this I just held this back for too long... I wish you and myself fun!
Ps.: Just one little edit since I took the time and read Jyudas post. I shared your opinion some month ago. But what íou say about the sandbox is only true if you have the possibility to make something, to change something, to create something. This is not the case. There is nothing that is not present in Wow (no thats true, name me one thing), so why not play a living world which is certanly not unique, but everything is at its place? Because they tell you that SoR is innovative although it only looks different?
I hope I didn't hurt you J, didn't mean to. This was not flaming only frustration. Peace.

Re: You will have to excuse me....
M8, that can be fine, and its your money you do what you want... but on a side note: Why do you bother to write/start all this stuff? I mean, its a new thread everyday, yackin about something EVERYBODY knows. At this moment, we are a "suspensed" population, with all eyes and ears on what might come. Till then, most of us are waiting, which is the only thing we can do really, unless you want to personally give your "Go For It!" to the devs and fly to Paris. Instead, EVERYDAY you repeat the same accusations, demands, etc., just fuelled by the slightest change or bit of news.raynes wrote:Who says I'm not playing other games? Believe me, I dont got anything against role-play and you much talked about actions, but this constant trolling is getting on my nerves.... I mean, once talk about it = OK, twice talk about it = seems you are looking to stir up trouble, a bazillion times = ????.
Some people (many), agree with you, and talk about stuff, and thats all right, but is a new thread bashing the sick dog needed everyday? :S

Yes, and it will take even longer yet and the patch will be massive and we will have our fingers crossed big time. Ahh, rewriting code, a dev's second worst nightmare. (The first being to rewrite someone else's.)
I look forward to our community reporter, Raynes, and his E3 story. If they don't answer your questions, bring a print out of this forum and how many long term players are more or less agreeing with you.

Re: You will have to excuse me....
I've read your post, and taken out the features I actually care about, and which might have any reasonable impact on my gameplay:
1) Rite giver hint
6) Death penalty removal service on Altars
8) Inventory Improvements
10) 12 Rites that have been ready for testing for a month now.
15) Run away from creatures
18) Graphical Improvements with lots on on screen characters
Not a lot is it?
I'm afraid Nevrax are putting too much energy in the wrong features. Mounts are a great example. Although I'm sure those that can afford one have had a bit of fun riding it, but for how long? Exactly: almost nothing compared to the time we spend ingame without thinking about mounts, yet how much effort, time, bugfixing has Nevrax put into this feature?
The same goes for Mektoub Packers that show up on your map with a different icon when they're dead. Big deal, how much dead mektoubs have you seen today? Not to mention, generally speaking there are far more advantages to leaving them in a stable than outside of one most of the time.
Rite giver hints: this is great, all we need now is working rites since only a very select few fully work because the others only contain prerequisite missions. This could make completing rites a lot less time-consuming than just talking to everyone and doing every single mission, hoping that there's one that is linked to a rite, as it is currently.
Death penalty removal on altars: I'm not sure what is meant by this, does it come from a glimpse of production or the handbook? If it's the latter i wouldn't count on seeing this soon. If they are actually developing this feature it could be a great addition to the game and partially fix the (imho) horrible DP system if worked out well. (take the hypothetical situation of a lvl 250 def afflicter with all other skills at 20-51 and you'll see what's wrong with the DP system)
Inventory improvements: It remains to be seen what these improvements are. There are 2 things that take most of my inventory space: sap crystals and teleport tickets. For the first it would be nice if they are stackable. Teleport tickets on the other hand i would like a system, comparable with the current encyclopedia, where you could make a selection from land (eg. "Witherings") then from region (eg. "Maiden Grove") then city/kami/karavan/etc (eg "Kami").
Rites on the ATS: what are they waiting for? Get them going live asap!
Run away from creatures: well I think this would be a great addition for all the newcomers on Atys. As for myself: I don't need to run away often, but when i do my speedup and/or some nearby water usually does the trick.
Nevertheless a good feature to have, but don't creatures already give up after a certain range or period of time?
Graphical Improvements with lots of characters on screen: I hope they find a solution for this. I can't enjoy large events because all i see is a big colorful blur of people around me (even with all settings at low, which only makes things uglier) and all I can do is read chat and heal whoever is on my team. A shame really, especially when its possible for me to play Ryzom fluently with everything at max detail as long as there aren't lots of people nearby.
I just hope Nevrax stop messing around and start working on the features that -really- matter (to the players that have been playing for a long time now at least, though i get the feeling they've given up on pleasing us and concentrating on satisfying the newer players that still have a lot (more) to explore/learn/do).
