well after getting annoyed at crashing everytime i autoran into yrkanis i submitted a ticketed, i ended up getting a NeL report for once.
anyways the nice gm happened to suggest that i go into my config and disable EAX
not one crash since, also i've noticed that when i tp it loads faster and i don't seem to have the random cpu lags i used to get.
i suggested this to a guildie who would crash when she tp'd and now she doesn't
so i'll suggest that for those who crash or have a lot of cpu access when running around
a solution to some crashes and cpu/hdd access
a solution to some crashes and cpu/hdd access

I noticed the problems with EAX and crashing last year. I have never crashed since I have disabled it.

Re: a solution to some crashes and cpu/hdd access
Hi I'm the crashing guildie.
Things went swell that first night, got wherever I ticketed to with no problem, next day another ticket crash so I look... yes, EAX is still off. I stood there behind the please wait box in my empty little world and turned the EAX back on...thinking if i turn it off again maybe... turning it back on got me out of the crash. Next crash, toggled it off again. Spent a long day and night doing that (not all tics crash, it seems very random) but it's so much faster and less frustrating than going through a log and relog. So heads up Thex...I'll be peppering you with questions later. For all others... what the dragon's fire is EAX?
Ok seeing that EAX is connected to the ATI card I'm going to spit into the wind and fiddle with it a little.

ATI have to have the DX9c upgrade in place. After you do that, reinstall your video drivers properly. Download the latest Catalyst drivers. Remove your current video drivers. Reboot. Ignore the 'Hardware found' messages. Run the Catalyst installer.
I have an ATI 9800 XT and have never had any video related crashes as I have always removed the current video drivers before installing newer ones.

or just buy a nvidia video card and not deal with ati, as much as it sux to say don't support a canadian company i have to say it with ati due to their crappy support for everything over the years
stopped using them, by choice, several years ago due to their bad support

Re: a solution to some crashes and cpu/hdd access
eax are special audio functions that make use of special hardware if available, if not the cpu will emulate them
no. 1 reason for crashes tho is overclocked hardware or cheap hardware as both can be unstable

Re: a solution to some crashes and cpu/hdd access
I have always used retail ATI video cards and have had to deal with their support a few times over the years. I have never had any problems. Their service was fast and efficient and I had no problems with exchanging any card that was not working at its best. I am sorry that your experience has not been optimum. But this is not the place to bash companies.thexdane wrote:or just buy a nvidia video card and not deal with ati, as much as it sux to say don't support a canadian company i have to say it with ati due to their crappy support for everything over the years
