Actually I beleive it would be impossible because the server does not know your current camera angle setting and simply streams data about mobs without your visual range.

Mobs spawning behind you would be as bad as them falling out of the sky like they do now.

Running from a nearby unoccupied place is a great idea but I do not think it would cause people to stop powerleveling since the mobs shoudl be returning to the spawn at the same rate as they respawn now.

More of what I meant by line of sight was behind walls and impassable terrain. Like in Matis arena, even if people are all around it but not near the entrance. Or inside the Tunnel of Woe even if people are standing next to it. That would be done independent of camera angle.

And I think there must be a happy medium between mobs spawning right in front of you to pull-kill grind on and region being emptied completely. It would just involve the right combination of spawning them at a distance AND with some slight time delay.

Hey, I was lvl grinding with a few guildies the other day when something interesting happen.

Now, usually, grind hunting is still fun for me because there's still chat and banters while we're hunting. But then we got interrupted by two other homins who wish to join our hunt, so we were like sure what the heck and teamed them. The mobs we were killing were then too low to be effective for xp'ing, so we decided to move on.

We start moving from one mobs to another to test out xp, and travel from Ofklovs Oasis and heading toward Dyron just to find that perfect mobs. Sometimes getting into dangerous situation but living through it all, and garnered a variety of different amount of xps. But we kept moving, is the thing.

Before we know it, it was 2 or 3 hours past and getting late, and the hunt was over. And we reached Dyron. And we have to log. Not much xp or levels were gained, but we realized we all had a blast even without being the most efficient xp machine that we usually were.

So it is truly my wish to see mmorpgs (not sure if it's possible for ryzom) moved away from mobs "popping" and instead make us actually "hunt" for them. Because it was such a cool experience.

That sort of thing is exactly what inspired me to post in this thread in the first place!

I love that kind of hunt. :)

Had a similar experience last night. We have a handful of "normal" hunting spots, but the configuration of peeps and levels just wasn't right for any of our regular spots so we starting wandering. It was great fun. In fact, the worst part about it was the respawn that we didn't anticipate right that would get us killed. But it was still more fun than pull-kill-loot-repeat every single night.

What you describe and what we did as well would work a lot better if they could find a way to get the mob replenishment to occur in a more natural way.
