Tear of the Kitin

Post by Tidings »

Homins, I bring you tidings from General Deamla.

"Today I was scouting in the Knoll of Dissent near the Tunnel of Woe with my colleague General Phanasa when I stumbled upon something. Shining on the ground between some bones was a piece of amber. It caught my attention and I picked it up. However, I did not get much of a chance to analyse it before an Arma, that was previously happily grazing on grass beside Phanasa and myself, attacked us.

The poor beast had suddenly turned mad with rage and charged us; it caught my leg on its first charge as my axe sliced in turn through the arma's hind-leg, shearing it right off. However, the creature seemingly ignored this and charged once more, only for my axe to nestle, burning away inside its skull.

The Arma was done; apparently it had gone mad in the blink of an eyelid leaving us little time to react. However, my leg had also sustained an injury.

Upon examining the amber, I found it to be both strange and worrying. One side was completely smooth and flat; indeed I had never seen something so flat like that before, however the other sides were rough as if they had been split from it somehow. The amber was clearly not complete, however from what I could gather from the shape of the piece I had it was probably teardrop shaped when fully formed.

More puzzling were the strange markings on one side of the amber, quite fuzzy and I did not recognise their style or meaning. Although this was not what had me worried, for inside the amber was a tiny Kitin claw.

The Kitin's claw was strange. It was clearly that of a Kitin, however even as a scout of some of the darkest Kitin lairs I did not recognise the type. It was also very small, suggesting the overall size of the kitin could not have been more than that of my hand.

I was concerned by this find, and knew I needed to get it back to safety, however with my leg injured I could not walk far or fast without help. Phanasa rushed off to Yrkanis to gather a small volunteer force to escort me back, and she found some very brave and honourable Homins to assist us. Meanwhile I had treated the wound as best I could under the circumstances.

I told them of my find then we set off for Yrkanis at walking pace. Some of the Homins supported me as I walked, while others cleared the path of danger. Lady Drakfot entertained us as we walked with her delightful poems and this helped ease my pain. The wound was still bleeding, and the Homins made sure to keep me healed so I could make it back at a reasonable speed. I was constantly examining the piece, and the Homins raised many questions as to its origins, which I could not answer.

We eventually made it back to Yrkanis, and I thanked the company for their help and willingness to assist in the situation. I then set off for the doctor to treat my wound fully.

My wound was swiftly treated with medicinal herbs, then bound tightly to ease the pain and prevent further blood-loss, but there was no time to rest. I knew I had to organise a meeting of the generals for the next evening. With the generals often on various tasks around Atys I knew it could take some time and so wasted little.

My first stop was to meet with my Seer, Meng Xielu, whom I thankfully knew was in Yrkanis at the time. I gave him the amber piece to look after and study. I am sure he shall be deep in his lore books tonight investigating for any signs of the origins of this mysterious amber piece.

With General Bai-Jimao still infected with the goo, I set off in search of my Fyros scout and dear friend General Sanantia. She was not in Fyros that I could see, so instead I set off for Fairhaven in search of General Rehn. It was there I found and informed Sanantia, along with several interested Homins, of what had happened.

Whilst in Fairhaven I was honoured to recognise some of the Homins who had assisted me earlier, and to learn from them that some went in search of more clues around the Tunnel of Woe after escorting me back to Yrkanis.

Sanantia had not seen the good Tryker General Rehn for a few days, so I first searched the bars of Atys he loves to frequent as often as he can. However, I did not find him. Sana suggested he may have been investigating the Burning Forest in Fyros but I could find no trace of him there.

I eventually had to rest my injury for the night and regain the strength in my leg. I shall set out tomorrow to find him and inform him of the meeting we are to convene in Fairhaven tomorrow evening to discuss the situation.

Generals Phanasa and Sanantia will keep searching for him in my stead.

We shall see if my seer has found out anything tomorrow during the meeting, and Homins are welcome, indeed encouraged, to attend if they are able to for this may effect us all.

General Deamla, Head Scout of Atys"

Homins, I bring you further tidings of events that took place last night from General Sanantia, the Fyros General.

"Hello homins, this is my report of the events last night:

Phanasa, Deamla and myself were still looking for General Rehn since the previous night when Deamla finally caught up with him in Fairhaven. Deamla tells me he was patrolling the bars again as usual *sigh*.

However, after Deamla informed him of the happenings from the previous night, Rehn brought up the fact he had found a similar piece of the amber in the flaming forest. Deamla instructed him to bring it to the meeting.

I hear General Phanasa had to drag him away from the bars again before the meeting started.

When I arrived in Fairhaven, Deamla was already there with around 40-50 homins sitting in front of her. We sat in a semi circle facing the Homins and began the meeting.

Deamla told of how she had found the first piece of the amber last night, while Deamla's seer, Meng Xielu, was consumed by his lore, mumbling occasionally. It was only when it was brought up that Rehn also found a piece that he perked up and asked to see it.

He soon slotted the two pieces together, and they merged in a very strange way, if you looked at the combined piece it was as if it had never been broken. Also the symbols on it changed as the pieces were brought together, however they are still unreadable in any language we currently know.

It was then Meng Xielu noticed something in his lore, something about this amber being a "powerful weapon against the kitin". Myself and Deamla were unsure, but Meng Xielu was often right about these sorts of things so we decided to find the rest of pieces, if for no other reason than to stop them from falling into the wrong hands, OBA or Desann for example.

The seer found an incantation to cast on us so that we can sense the pieces from a short range, and also clues to where a map was hidden.

Deamla then adjourned the meeting and the crowd continuued discussing the meeting.

It was then that myself and Deamla were able to pin down that the map was located somewhere on the Matis Refugee island. So later on we headed for the island. Phanasa would normally have covered this area but she was engaged elsewhere at the time.

We found a brave squad of homins to assist us in finding the map: Sarakan, Garmahar, Mrnoodles and Jadei. The only clues we had was that it was located up high, and near water; as we did not know this land very well the Homins lead me there while Deamla stayed back not wishing to strain her injured leg too much.

We successfully located the hill and found the map with the help of the Homins, however it appeared to not be an ordinary map, but had written clues to the locations of the pieces on it. We took this map back to Deamla in Borea and thanked the Homins for their help.

We should now have everything we need to find the pieces, and as soon as Meng Xielu starts translating the clues we can begin the search for pieces.

-General Sanantia, Scout of Fyros"

Ooh looking good. I wish I had known the meeting was occurring yesterday because your original post stated:

"I shall set out tomorrow to find him and inform him of the meeting we are to convene in Fairhaven tomorrow evening to discuss the situation."

So of course I thought that meant today. At any rate the WMD of the Kitin wars sounds interesting :D

Maybe an OOC announcement of the time and date should be done for future stuff like this...

Homins, I bring you tidings from the Generals.

General Rehn has the following report to make:

"Homins!
Last night a group of daring Trykers and a Matisian Lady made me proud!

General Sanantia and I had gathered in Fairhaven. Deamla and the seer Meng Xielu had given us leads to find another amber piece, which should be located in the Lakelands. The instructions were very cryptic, and as I am a man of action not of words, I asked help from some clever homins. Soon Frydeswinde and Kyerna had figured it out, they are good recruits, I’ll tell ya! They have brains as sharp as swords and have a strong arm to hit.

So off to Bounty Beaches we went, one group with sharp Dagger, and one with Frydeswinde leading the way. At the portal more brave homins were waiting.

The group sliced through hordes of cutes and zerx, but then disaster struck. Zaber had picked up our trail and lead the whole pack of torbaks to us. Wave after wave the torbaks attacked, the dead bodies of the torbaks piled up, but they kept up coming. We had to fall back.

This time we took another route, through the region of Fount. In Fount we encountered Trini and Son, two Darkmoor Rangers who were patrolling the area. When they heard of the quest, they joined in.

On entering Bounty Beaches, scout Rikka volunteered to show the way. We went deep into the territory and no kincher or cute could withstand us.
Even the torbaks fled before us. It was great to see the true power of Trykers!

And the closer we got, the more Sanantia and I could feel we got closer to the amber piece. And when we reached the lake, I really could feel it.

And there it was, at the Cute Springs Research Center, we found another piece of the amber. Both Sanantia and I examined it well. There were no marking on it this time, but there was a piece of shell in it…
We went to Fairhaven as fast as we could, to report to General Deamla, and to give her the amber piece.

Dagger, Crythos, Pebbles, Psylo, Aina, Thosam, Bluebandit, Rikka, Drakfot, Son, Trini, Frydeswinde, Kyerna, Silverfox, Machieltje and Sky, this old veteran bows to you on doing such a dangerous mission for the Lakelands! You really earned the drinks in the bar.

General Rehn
Scout-General of the Tryker Federation"

There are also reports that Wormy was seen last night, casting a spell on Lady Rikka and demanding to the crowds he would leave her alone if they got a piece of amber for his master Oba. No doubt we will hear more of this soon, stay alert homins.

General Deamla also brings a report of another piece of the amber being found in Tryker refugee island this afternoon:

"As soon as my seer had managed to translate another of the location clues on the map I set off to find it. The clues directed me to Barkdell and I found a good number of brave homins there willing to aid me in my quest.

Once I gave out the clues the homins soon had several ideas of where the piece could be found. We set off to look for it and soon found it. I was glad to have such brave and strong homins with me on this quest, many beasts who crossed our path fell to their swords and magic. The piece I found contained two of the kitin's claws but no runes on it, there is indeed a large part of the amber still to find.

The brave homins who assisted me were Kiera, Aggy, Rothschild, Ignorancestew, Hobo, Macfraggius and Ashly, and I value their assistance.

-General Deamla, Head scout of Atys"

Homins, I bring you tidings of terrible news.

General Deamla was enjoying a evening off, letting her injuries recover in the Windermeer bar. She was apparently drugged by the barkeeper and the foul Wormy organised the Blackwater pirates to go out and steal the kitin amber gathered so far from Deamla.

They quickly found her in Windermeer in a drugged and drunken state accusing the barkeeper of chatting her up. The pirates staged a bar fight as a distraction and stole the amber in the resulting confusion.

Deamla soon realised the amber was missing and organised a hunt for the pirates, heavily drugged she got there a bit later than most but saw enough to see Wormy steal the amber from the pirates.

The Blackwater pirates are angry with Wormy for not paying them their loot for a second time, and are reportedly planning revenge.

General Deamla is currently recovering in Zora, she should be back to duty soon.

It is reported that the barkeeper in Windermeer has been arrested and replaced for drugging General Deamla.

Wormy is known to have the amber still, and homins are advised to get it back if they can from him.

Homins, I bring tidings from General Sanantia on finding another piece of the amber.

"It was a wonderful sight to see so many brave homins gathered in Pyr ready to assist me in finding another piece of the kitin amber we have been searching for. We must have had at least 70 homins there, I was so proud of the willingness to help.

I read out the clues the seer had translated, there were many ideas as to what they meant, but it was Zirc who's deciphering made the most sence. Soon the task force set out for Savage dunes near the matis portal, we got there and as the homins cleared the area I searched for the amber.

I soon found it among some old bones, a small piece of amber containing the underside of the kitin trapped in the amber. The homins escorted me safly back to Pyr, I am sure even an armada of kitins would not have stopped us getting there.

General Deamla was awaiting my return, and we thanked the homins for their hard work and support and headed out to give the amber to the seer.

On behalf of the Blackwater Pirates, i thank you for these kind words.

And I deny any connection between me, Evolution, and other members of named guild with Sxarface, RecklessRikka or any other of those horrible Pirates.
I just heard them bragging in the bar!
