Popped in for 2 penneth.
PvP is coming ppl, theres nothing you can do about it. Once Outposts are intergrated it will be an intrincal part of the game so get used to it.
Also alot of players wont be interested in a game without PvP, I currently dont like the system on WoW that was implemented in the last patch (the same as the majority of the player base) but its broken everyone away from the grinding and added some spice. Ryzom needs the money they wil bring.
However since Ryzom is much more of a grinder than WoW the disparity between high level players and low level would mean some sort of system where fame is radically lost (or gained if they won) to stop gankers.
Neun keeps asking me to log in and play but why should I when the outposts I want to fight for and defend arent there. When they are I think Ryzom will be the humming game Ive waited for.
PvP = Fun?

Well one reason is I am getting MARRIED on Monday!borguk wrote:...snip...Neun keeps asking me to log in and play but why should I when the outposts I want to fight for and defend arent there. When they are I think Ryzom will be the humming game Ive waited for.
Een here is an shinning example of the future of Ryzom!
When outpost come and work, the player base that a killing time with other games but watching the progress of Ryzom will return. I have much respect for my friend as he has maintained his sub even tho he isn't playing! (I am sure many others have too)
Nevarx - the pressure is on you, I know that you know this already!
Do it and Do it right (outpost and expansions) and the playerbase will increase beyond your expectations.
Nothing has come close in about 5 years (PlanetSide by SoE was the last NEW concept game in that time frame) for a unique game experience.
I praise your efforts and based on Jessica's artical about PvP, looks like we have a sensible addition to the team.
So go go go and get it done!
*hugs*
Re: PvP = Fun?
There are various PvP concepts in various games. Lets take a short look
AC1:
PvP is based on quest to become a "Player Killer" and therefore can be attacked by others, as well as a quest to become "None Player Killer" again. There are some time contstraints involved to avoid abuse and I have to say it is nice to go a bit PvP but also to be on the safe side again when you want to explore. But if you play on a PvP Server, it is: join my guild or die.
DAoC:
My favourite system regarding skills and therefore, the PvP system that allows long fights as well as short fights is nice. Different attacks, counterattacks, skills, follow-up skills, all that adds to the PvP Strategy
SB:
Be a nuker or be doomed, fire first, then ask or be a thief. Not much to say about it.
Ryzom:
Duelling is very nice, as it allows players to compete, even though due to the "lack of class-skills", basically everyone is the same. This, on the other hand, allows the real comparison of player skills and not character skills. PvP zones are nice and, as mentioned by some of my beforeposters, only few incidents happen.
With outposts there may be the risk that guild-wars start and that we (I am talking about the harvesters) will be the loosing side when it comes to PvP Zone harvesting. Killing others to gain something (even if it is an outpost or only 1 dapper) causes bad blood. I hope that this is kept in mind when outposts will be introduced.

Re: PvP = Fun?
The one thing I like about Ryzom is the maturity of the players v other online games, Im sure that anyone targetting harvesters for any other reason than tactical would soon become a target for a lot of ppl.cstrahd wrote: With outposts there may be the risk that guild-wars start and that we (I am talking about the harvesters) will be the loosing side when it comes to PvP Zone harvesting. For eg, a power leveller on WoW reached lvl 60 Mage and proceeded to gank everything below lvl 45, he now cant go anywhere without being set upon by the now lvl 60s he used to gank and his gaming experience cant be much fun.
Im sure anyone repeatedly hitting soft targets would become a target for everyone as that sort of person is just plain anti-social, and this is a social game.

totally agreed, but PvP will still continue, you either join in or turn away. I think society will change when the outposts are soon (tm) introduced, all those little squirmishes and dissagreements between oposing guilds will rear their ugly head again . for all those whole voted totally against PvP, are you going to try to influence your own guilds not to battle for outposts?? I think it will be very interesting watching this game turn from HominVkitin to HominVhomin with kitin being spectators. personally i dont think there will be battles for outposts, just an initial charge to get the best spots, because we are a mature community, wars and dissagreements have always been sorted out swiftly and maturely and these have been very rare. To change all this and try to breed wars using the outposts as a catalyst, may just be rejected by most hominkind, thats if these poll results are to be believed

Is it just the psychology of being attacked by another player that's worrysome? If so, then being aware of that should empower most anyone to let it roll of their back if it does happen, yes?
I don't mind, so I'd probably say something like "ass, I owe you one ," but if you don't want to goad them on or get into it, respawning and running back without really reacting won't feed their interest in killing More psychology
If someone was camping, killing repeatedly in the same spot when you return or try to leave a spawn (3 times is when I'd call the police), you should definitely get a GM for harassment, whether you like PvP or not.

Guess What folks, Parts of Roots and All of Nexus are PvP
If you are suprised you got killed, shame on you. Now, killing for no reason is silliness, and I agree with Aelvana completely that a camper is no fun. Beyond this though, you are paying the price for exploring and doing things in this region.
I can totally see killing you there digging the Supreme Dzao, getting my pick out and digging as much as I can before you get back. Maybe I stay there and you kill me. I then call for a little help and warn you to go dig elsewhere for now because I need this. If we can't come to an agreement and you decide you want it more, prove it. Maybe next time I will not want it, but right now, I do.
Give it up and stop whining, please. You are choosing to go there. You do not have to, it is a rik you take every time. Do you walk out in the middle of the highway? No because it is a risk you are unwilling to take.
We are ALL just a bit to friendly in-game/in-character. You can be freindly out of character and be a reasonable person, and still participate in PvP. Imagine the 5 to 10 times population you all want, Roots would be inundated if it would not be for the ability to make it painful to be there.
P.S. I do not hear anyone complaining that PR mobs have 2 or 3 times the HP. Isn't that unfair?
EDIT: GUESS WHAT ELSE? There is no DP for being killed PvP. So stop whining even more!

Re: PvP = Fun?
There is a risk of pk in PR, but is up to players to reduce that risk to 0. Those "PvP is there stop complaining" and "this area was implemented in that purpose" are just noise.
Gun does not kill people, people does. Is up to you to stop that, not up to devs. If no one would kill in PR that warning would become useless. So is up to you. What you say after you've done it, is just an escuse. So as long as players will want to pk, the pk will exist. Same applies to pk/pvp areas.

Supreme mats supply -> Quest based rewardsbasicart wrote:But how else ya ment to get someone else of them limited supreme mats
Make a quest and a deposit is made just for you. Then you have to use your harvesting skills to get the mats. If you cant reach the deposit in a certain period of time, is gone.
Those are just details, solutions are everywhere.
And someone was complaining that Atys population is a bit too kind. Well, this behaviour is common at survivers. And I'd like to remember you that all homins actuallly ARE survivers.

I just like to add,
in RL, in the Meatworld, on Earth here, we can all go around PKing other people if we want to.
But the majority of us don't.
There, I said it!
HAHA.
