PvP = Fun?
Re: PvP = Fun?
I look forward to Guild vs Guild wars for outposts but the PvP ganking in roots is something that I don't enjoy. I see the need for it and the way the devs have made it such a hotspot for mats gives a good reason for it but the social aspect of it sucks.
Re: PvP = Fun?
A meeting between 2 players in a pvp zone in a game usualy ends in somebody being dead.
I've been in the roots (ToT,umbra) sometimes, and ran around and dug for a bit (150 pr atm) met some nice people, discussed current events, talked about food, dug side by side, pointed out spots to people, have recieved help form others sometimes and it was nice.
Just because it is a PvP zone does not mean you have to kill another player and the players i've met have been verry peacefull and agreable. (it helps if you say hi to people)
As far as I am concerned the sevrer population has enough morals and standards to enforce a players code of conduct in PvP zones and generaly follow it. So let there be PvP zones for those who want to use force to win a argument. The 'rule breakers' can be a focus point for the ' law abiding and good' people and provide some heated threads on the forums that make me chuckle at work.
If at some point SoR is invaded by alot players who kill for no reason and just because they can and make the ingame life difficult to others my view will possibly change.
In general I don't like PvP and killing players because it brings out the most evil things in people, the most heated emotions, often expressed badly, incoherently and insulting.
A note on umbra and pvp.
The current way of getting the rare mats (supreme) and actualy having the time to extract while there is a battle going on around on seems rather diffucult. It would be more rewarding to just share and make the most of what you got instead of fighting over it and having trouble getting it next time.
Picture 2 guilds at the supreme big shell spot, about 4 to 10 people total fighting it out over the diggers heads, killing the digger first cause there will be less mats for them, dieing, respawning and going back, constantly disrupting the digger and his teammates. This is not verry effective and would yeild (in my mind) alot less mats in the given timeframe and can keep people busy for a whole eveing for a few shells.. Imagine their surprise (agony) when they meet next day at the dzao fiber spot

I was browsing through newcomer Jessica M's article on SKOTOS and came upon this. Very fitting to the current discussion.

If you've been paying attention to developments over in WoW you'll see they've fornicated the canine over PvP as well with their honour system. People seem pretty up in arms over it.vinnyq wrote:I was browsing through newcomer Jessica M's article on SKOTOS and came upon this. Very fitting to the current discussion.

I am very concerned about PvP in Ryzom and hope it never goes that far.

Re: PvP = Fun?
Killing lots of the other faction (NPCs as well as PCs) gives you 'honour' which then places you in a ranking.geezas wrote:What have they done that is so upsetting ? (sorry I don't follow gaming news that much)
If your honour is high in the ranking you get access to extra 'kewl powerz' to make you even more bosh hard.
Additionally, they've thrown fuel on the fire by running a competition for graphics cards, based on your ranking.
Apparently some quests are now night on impossible to do as all the quest NPCs keep getting slaughtered and the lag in favourite towns for people to raid is horrendous, and bad elsewhere due to the system strain as well.
Badness.

Re: PvP = Fun?
I've been in games that were 100% open PvP, and in games, like this one, that are duel/pvp zone/challenge PvP. I must say that so far, I've most enjoyed Ryzom's take on it. I stay out of the PR, for the most part, as I don't like open PvP anymore, and I engage in duels with only those people that are fun to play with. People I know are going to enjoy the fight, rez me back when we are done, and avoid the things about PvP that annoy me the most: The "I pwned j00!" leet boiz. That angers me most about PvP.
It annoys me to the point that, if the first question I hear out of a new player's mouth is "Is there PvP in this game?" (and this HAS happened, in Ryzom), I immediately become wary of this player. In the instances that I heard that, most of the players around informed the players that if that was what they were looking for, this probably wasn't the game for them. And, just my opinion, I hope it stays that way. I am so sick and tired, after all of the MMO's I've tried out, of the uber leet boiz running around griefing and talking crap, that I have quit games over it. So far, Ryzom has avoided the attention of the griefer crowd, and if it goes more to the PvP side, and starts to attract them, just for the money, I'll be gone. I don't think that the majority of players out there are interested in PvP. This poll is certainly showing it. But unfortunately, the people that want it bad are also the noisiest, generally, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Just my two cents.

Re: PvP = Fun?
Last night in the GoO.... there were 4+ guilds doing various different things.
The root are PvP ... but its down to the players if they fight or not.
Managed/staged fights are great and conficts (that don't escalate outa control) are good to.
Ganking and PK, which I have heard very little off and never SEEN. Don't really have that great an effect in Ryzom. This type of player will soon tire of the fact that Kill a 'defenceless' player gains them nothing, but bad press.
Players killed by other players, don't get DP in the roots.
PK can't loot.
No damage occurs to the dead players equipment.
So basically the only thing lost is a bit of time.
I am staying neutral on the PvP issue. I used to hate the idea, but since its been added its changed Ryzom game play very little for me.

My 2 dappers:
Each age have its challenges and goals. There is a wide variety of ages in our game but I think I'm not mistaken too much if I say that the medium age in game is around 20-25. But also are really mature people who plays here for reaxing after a day of work. Is funny how the age determins attitude vs pk/pvp/gvg. I'm 33 yrs old and my attitude is totally against any kind of pvp, pk, etc. But to be honest I got this attitude at around 30 yrs. I guess the most blood thirsty players are the ones under 18 yrs. That's why best soldiers are the ones recruited at this age.
LOL. It is said that men are not changing over years. Only their toys. Guess is a bit of truth in this word.
