Suggestion: Focus testing on ATS for free play time

Post by mrozzy »

The work done on ATS is very important for the success of each patch. Currently testing is done by a few volounteers and is quite random (it isn't guided). During focus beta, testing various futures was done very effectively and lots of people were really motivated to do so. Currently, ATS isn't very popular and some bugs still make it to the live servers. What about focus testing for free playtime? I think a few peeps would be very interested to participate. Free days could be earned in different ways:

- Individual focus testing and writing a full report
- Testing something by the guidance of a few GMs
- Finding a new bug (be the first one to find it)
- ...

The time spend on ATS shouldn't be a factor for determining the amount of free play recieved, its the result that counts.

This could give Nevrax a very cheap testing team :)

Actually ATS is guided. Saw one looking over Hubby's shoulder the other day.

Otherwise I think this is a great idea. I think this would motivate people to help with ATS. Maybe not a ton, but more than now.

I myself would actively test if my main was copied over. Last time I went to test, I spent 2 hours making yet another toon, who at the end, wasn't near as capable as my main toon that I'm used to playing with is, and it became an excersize in frustration. This may seem minor, but how most bugs are found is through *normal* game play, and while using a toon I am not used to, my playing isn't 'normal', as I have gotten extremely used to a particular way of doing things, and I just can't with a lesser leveled toon.. (Yes, maybe I'm just wierd, but not being able to do certain things I've gotten used to doing easily over the months really throws me. ) :p

I suggested on the ATS forum a month or two ago, Transfer toons. It'll make at least a few more of us more than happy to come test things because there's far less inconvienience involved.

from everything I have heard the biggest problem seems to be the lack of your main character from the main server being coppied over as the above stated. I believe that if this was fixed then you would see a better run of testing occuring

How about just letting more people have access. Obviously it helps if they are motivated somehow to assist in realistic testing(focus).
