If you're having frequent disconnects -> Solution!

Post by phoenyx »

If you're having the problem with frequent disconnects, chances are good that you have a Linksys router or a Linksys router/access point (for wireless). This is the second game I've had trouble with, in 3 years, with my Linksys BEFW11S4. The problem with the other game was finally fixed with a firmware update for my Linksys product. This time, for Ryzom, I was literally unable to update my firmware to the version I downloaded from the Linksys site. I just couldn't get the router to update by any method. Crappy support from Linksys. :(

Also, the port triggering suggestion in the sticky thread at the top of this forum didn't really work either. It made the disconnects a bit less frequent, but I'd still disconnect anywhere from 1 to many times per hour, on average. Putting one computer on the DMZ is a lousy workaround, both for security reasons and because households with two people who play the game together are still stuck with one person having disconnects anyway, because you can put only one computer on the DMZ.

Well, there is a fix to all this. Unpalatable to some of you, but it works. Dump your Linksys and replace it with aother router. I picked up a D-Link DI 604 (because it got very good reviews in the gaming mags and websites) yesterday. It took me 10 minutes to replace the Linksys and have all my comps running again. I did NO special setup. No port forwarding, no port triggering, nothing. Just the default setup wizard for the router.

And now Ryzom plays great. No disonnects for either computer. We had a 4 hour playing session yesterday and both of us had no problems with the game .

Since this is the 2nd game in several years that has had a problem with my Linksys product, I'm pretty sure this is really Linksys' problem, not Neverax's problem. Hopefully Neverax can come up with a fix for you Linksys owners or give you a good port triggering workaround or something, but if you don't want to wait and don't mind spending $50 on a replacement for your Linksys, there ya go. Hope this helps some folks.

I have had the fortunate experience of having BEGUN with a Di-604. I highly recommend this model as it is a very simple switch with a good review history. Never had connectivity/porting issues...in fact, a lightening strike 2 poles away from here took out my Cable Modem, but the Di-604 was still trying to connect! Hardcore little guy!

Doubletap's thread (http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=631) has a fix that seems to be working for many people.

Have you been changing the default config of your router? You might need to do a reset to factory settings and then set-up the connection parms again if you really can't talk to your router.

Are you on wireless or is this a regular router?

I have a Linksys wireless router and had several discos last night but the game is usually fine. Yesterday was an exception. Very annoying though.

My daughters system is having this issue, but oddly I am not. My system is the one directly attatched, then my hubby is on the wireless, my daughters is jacked through an older linksys NON wireless router.

I agree that this is NOT a Ryzom issue, since my daughter has issues with other games at times. EQ, Horizons and this game. And I feel if it is ONE game, might be their fault, two game, that is a bit too coincedental, and three games, sounds like hardware or NON Ryzom software.

I am not a techie, hubby is busying doing his techie magic, I will let yall know if DT's work around helped her or not. If it does help, Doubletap...THANKS for the help and *HUG*.

Many parents think these games will be the END of socialization, but my daughter has ADHD and these games have served as a MAJOR source of social learning and a possitive place to work out Behavioral modification. (in other words, if she acts nicely, often other players are nice back to her, reinforcing the nice behavior). And she really LOVES this game, so I am hoping the work around helps.
