Hi ,
( taking : troy Mclure impersonator voice )
You may remember seing my name in such post as :
Sugestions : Crafting more plans and More
http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13744
Sugestions : Power leveling Books
http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13750
Sugestions : Product named ATS Outpost
http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13747
( /end taking : troy Mclure impersonator voice )
Why did I did the above ? Why do I keep on pushing these
its simple , because of this :
Letter to the SoR community, from David Cohen Corval
http://ryzom.com/?page=letter_davidcohen_20050415
Wich state in clear : RYZOM IS " eventually" TOAST IF WE DONT GET ANY MONEY SOON !
All of the above cost almost nothing to implement :
And can bring in some needed money *now* to Nevrax ( Ryzom maker ) now ...
Ask yourself these :
Would you pay 40$ to get on an ATS Oupost preview server in order to save Ryzom ?
- my personnal answer is yes
Would you pay 20$ for some power Leveling books for fyros in order to save Ryzom ?
- my personnal answer is yes
Would you pay for some more Crafting Plan exclusive product for 3 month at the low price of 30$ to only those who buy the Crafting Plan Online product in order to save Ryzom ?
- my personnal answer is yes
If you answer to all the above is still no and you whant to contribute suggest something else your whilling to pay for that dont cost a gazillion to implement and you think others might be willing to pay for ...
All this in hope that we dont get the game we all love to play to close because , no one did anything.
With no money and less employee :
- Things take longuer to be solved.
- Things dont get released on the previously mentionned scheduled date.
- Thing can even disapear completely.
The choice is yours , I decided to post my concern will there still alive and there still time to do something and ask for somethings to be done too , once they decide to close , it will be too late.

Re: Sugestions: Read this if you care about Ryzom
If i had to pay for achievments in a RPG i'd quit... Seriously, do you think that would save SoR? I wouldnt pay for something that was ingame (short of expansion pack), but for the single reason that i believe if its in game its got to be won in game.
Actually, selling outposts, craft plans, etc, would just insult me, as this is a game and achievments shud be be done ingame, not with cash. I could participate in any other fund raising, but mixing the game with the money would only cause trouble. I for one, if had to pay for armor plans would quit the game i believe...

moulije, you have good intentions, and I am sure your suggestions are good for quick fix.
But that's really all they would be, milking some munnies from the player-base for a quick revenue generation. In the end though, if the game stay on course and does not gain more subs and retain the one already here, the company still won't survive. The minor revenues generated from ATS server subs, strategy guides, god-mode character selling, etc, will not be able to save a game that doesn't have the security of a big enough player base.
As I see it, Nevrax can only do well when it creates a good enough product, the core game itself, to retain its playerbase and to draw in new one at a regular pace.
I hope they knock them at the E3 next month
That would do more wonder for the company then would any amount of "assescories" revenue stream would do (which, if goes wrong, can make you LOSE players who see the system of buying godlike chars and uber items as unfair. Strategy guides is a different matter. I don't think I have anything against strategy guides).

Re: Sugestions: Read this if you care about Ryzom
Had you considered that your ideas might not be a true solution to any problems? Have you considered that people will have different points of view, especially Nevrax themselves?
Suggesting an idea is one thing, expecting everyone to agree and accept your initial ideas without question is a little presumptious
I don't want to shoot you down or anything, but that isn't the way these things work. I have ideas every day in my job, some of them are great, some of them are useless. I don't expect my boss to accept them all, in fact I expect him to try and pick as many holes as possible. If, in the end, the idea remains intact, it may be used. And it may not.
Do you see what I'm saying?

ok i've pointed out the pitfalls and still hold your ideas are fine for certain games (not sure about the ats one though) but probably not Ryzom, mostly based on my experiences in UO around it's peak.
but its easy to critisise, so i'll put my neck on the line
Player based donations eaither via an anonymous system (if you love the game who needs more incentive) or a Supporters subscription where you paid a bit extra per month.
For more incentive perhaps titles or some sort or an ingame monument to the builders of atys, that lists all the donators character names
plus: very little overhead or additional revenue needed, keeping in mind there speding is under observation.
minus: Would openly asking for extra cash put off potential new players loosing subs and client costs (if its still £35 then they might need to follow AO and slash the client price consdierably i paid £19 as part of a promo and that was fine for what i got)

no. (what, more idiots ingame who pester me for cash and items ? It is a nice and friendly comunity, lets keep it that way)moulije wrote: Would you pay 20$ for some power Leveling books for fyros in order to save Ryzom ?
no.moulije wrote: Would you pay for some more Crafting Plan exclusive product for 3 month at the low price of 30$ to only those who buy the Crafting Plan Online product in order to save Ryzom ?
And what about all the time people have invested to become crafters ? They grind for their friends and their guild and for profit (dappers, grindmats) to make the best stuff they can. Now they have to pay money to make a special item? If that was the case I would seriously rethink my commitment to ryom. If it was 30 million dappers, sure that can be high and take while to gather, eg dedicated crafter, but real money? it is a insult!
We all pay a subscribtion, the suggestions you so far put forward would not make it more enjoyable for the people who are allready playing and testing on the ATS. And if they where implememented I think some, maybe manny, will leave ...moulije wrote: If you answer to all the above is still no and you whant to contribute suggest something else your whilling to pay for that dont cost a gazillion to implement and you think others might be willing to pay for ...

Re: Sugestions: Read this if you care about Ryzom
Thus far none of these ideas are particularly workable, though I'm sure people will be looking at SOE's 'legalised' real-world sale of virtual items to see how that pans out for them in terms of profit and gameplay.
Guidebooks on levelling etc... there just isn't the market there without a really big game and print costs are horrendous unless you do a big print run.
I think they should license the setting to a PnP RPG company (or produce one themselves) and create a combined worldbook/RPG game. That would sell independently, the idea is strong enough to make a good profit and would increase interest in the game.
White Wolf have produced works for both Warcraft and Everquest settings with some success.
Hell, I'll write it, I guarantee I can undercut anyone else
You could give it for free on PDF to subscribers as a bonus item and sell hardcopy to everyone else.

No it isn't. The protection Nevrax has gotten from the court is from payment of old bills (not the current ones). The judge is convinced, that Nevrax will be able to pay off its bills with the current number of subscribers and based on a new business plan (eg: close the US server and fire a few people). (The business plan for such protection has to be based on the current income)
Nevrax is protected for 4 to 20 months I believe. If they don't stick to the business plan or if the number of subscribers drop significantly, then Ryzom is toast, but I don't see that happening.
If Nevrax was in such a bad shape as you try to convince us from, it would already be bankrupt. A judge doesn't give protection to a company if it isn't to be expected to make some cash and pay off all its old bills anytime soon. The courts descision just gives Nevrax some breathing space, and gives it the time to reoganise its business, wich seems to be finished now.
If you really wanne donate your cash to Nevrax I think CSR will gladly help you

But about your suggestions there, I find them, to be honest, pretty rediculous.
