Hey everyone... just wanted to get a bit of discussion going....mainly if able with people on the Mainland already. One thing that has really made me enjoy Ryzom so far is the fact that compared to other mmorpg's they made harvesting and crafting actually be fun! Ive dabbled with it in other games like EQ and AC2 and the like....but in Ryzom its easy to do and actually a bit of fun at least for me.
Anyway....Im curious as to what people think and have seen so far for the market of crafted items along with the future of it. Let me throw a couple questions out for opinions for instance...
- So far it seems that some people have really jumped out the gate quickly on raising crafting skills. Will this hurt the ability of lower level crafters to really find any customers when you have these 10-12 hardcore guys making practically everything?
- In keeping with the above question..... I read somewhere a long time ago a way to fix the market problem of higher level crafter making it hard for lower level crafters to make any headway....you should at some point cap the higher level crafters from making the really low quality items. i.e. ..... a guy who can make QL 60 armor should not be able to make QL 20 and below stuff so as to leave a market for the lower level up and coming crafters. Is this something that should be looked at?
- So far what seems to be the most comonly made items on the mainland (as in everyone and thier dog seems to be making them)?
- What seems to be the hard to find items from crafters? (I've heard guns, bullets and amplifiers?)
- In a brief followup to the first 2 questions.... some people feel that an implementation of a Auction/Bazaar/NPC seller for player goods.... helps to solve the problem of low level crafters not being able to sell because people wont see a difference in the items and will just buy what is there and the higher level crafter generally wont waste time making lower stuff unless asked directly. Will this help that issue?
- Im actually very glad that items decay over time and this helps the market to keep going. Most games dont do this so eventually once the population makes a certain number of an item it becomes useless to make it anymore. So far are all items subject to this decay? Have the people on the mainland seen any items yet that wont decay? I imagine there must be some special armor or weapons out there that wont?
Any feedback appreciated....

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
Despite the maligned reputation of ranged weapons, or perhaps because of it and my predilection for being different, I have focused on it and ammo crafting. Still, it's more of a curiosity for most, so the demand is not really there, though that may change when they get stat differences working on the guns, and they get ammo working right.
Mostly you'll see requests for armors and melee weapons, as you can imagine. What I think may happen in time, is that eventually, many crafters may get to the point where they don't want to be bothered making low-level items, which will be good news for those working their way up. Certainly, if you've been harvesting Q100 mats, and you get asked to make a Q50 sword, for instance, would you do it with those mats? Or will you spend the time harvesting Q50 mats, and therefore get less harvesting xp, in order to supply what may be a wildly fluctuating demand for your items? There's lots of juggling to be done, no matter what craft you choose. My advice would be to just pick something and run with it

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
My experience as a consumer of crafted products consists of the following purchases.
1. Before I left the starter island, I purchased an excellent set of Q20 Heavy Armor from a player for 47,000.
2. In the Cheapside market (Fyros) I purchased a great sword Q50 for 60,000.
3. I also recently purchased a set of Q50 Hard Armor for 100,000.
4. I sold my Q20 set to another player for 10,000.
I fully expect to continue to trade like this as I advance and weapons get better and armor improves.
The crafters I work with seem to be able to get the mats and provide the service quickly.
With the items decaying, new items are needed as replacements and hopefully enhancements.
As the number of players entering the system increases and everyone has a number of slots for different players, crafters should do very well.
Also, as mentioned, the higher crafters shouldn't make much XP crafting lower Q armor and weapons.
The NPC sellers for the items made by crafters should also help and allow a person to buy when they need to as opposed to trying to connect to a crafter ingame. It will be interesting to see how a suit of armor is sold this way.....

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
I can't imagine how supply would ever outweigh demand in this game. So I am not concerned about inability to sell my items on the mainland even though I am a more casual player and therefore will be behind the curve of the more hardcore crafters. My experience so far (granted it's on newb island only) is that I can spend hours harvesting choice materials and sell the weapons made in a matter of minutes. I think there will always be a market for quality goods.

Well, to put alot of your questions into a correct answer....
I currently Craft Q80 weapons, just made a large load of staffs and pikes for my guild this morning. If I see an offer for someone buying a Q50 or below weapon, I usually dont jump on it. Sure it might be worth a good 40k, but to be honest, when I go out and harvest q100 mats and craft mroe q60-80 stuff, It just isnt worth i to take 10 minutes out of my crafting to waste some q100 mats on a q50 item.
EXP = I don't get any worthwhile exp from crafting anything Q50 and below, I get maybe 700 exp crafting a Pike or a Magician Staff. As opposed to getting roughly 2.1-2.4k doing Q70 or 80 items.
In the long run, this will open up newer crafters to supply the newer people, and the higher crafters to support their guilds and other high level players.
Sooo, no worries, the little guys will still stay in buisness

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
Got exactly the same point of view. Sure, I could make q20 weapons and armors. But it simply doesn't "pays", in both senses. Exp would be low and I could probably get a better price if I just sold my q99 mats to a npc store.
And a lvl 70 crafter won't have a stash of q20 mats, just like a lvl 30 crafter won't have much q10 mats.
If there is some danger here it doesn't comes from highlvl crafters, but from other players reselling their old equipment. The best crafters don't have that problem, since there is noone above them who could sell players equipment, the less advanced crafters on the other hand, are strongly effected by this 2nd hand market.

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
True, but that's why item decay is there. Second hand items won't be around very long.
Re: discussion on the crafting market...
and that's where decay comes into play. i think it'll work out fine.shrike wrote:the less advanced crafters on the other hand, are strongly effected by this 2nd hand market.

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
Isn't as strong as you think it is. My old q60 light armor is still on over 60% health. On the other hand, a non-crafter probably won't get a new armor/weapon every 10 lvls

Re: discussion on the crafting market...
I think the jury is still out on how the economy is going to do. On the mainland many people are crafting Q50+ equipment. These hardcore crafters are sponsered by guilds so they have no trouble getting mats.
If you come off newbie island as a crafter, you problaby aren't even close to making items that good yet. The only thing that might give a melee/mage player pause is the price of higher level goods. If you make common items like armor and weapons or anythign that a powerful crafter already makes, you may find it very hard to sell anything at all.
This game is going to have similar crafting issues that games like DAoC, SWG, and other crafting type games had.
I came off newbie island today with melee of 26. I can make Q30 pikes. It is doubtful I will sell even one of them to a player. There is a guy spamming top notch Q50 pikes in the market place. Heck its better than I can make and would be a better investment of my newbie dapper than trying to make my own pike.
