I think everyone, let me repeat, everyone here that posts is way to caught up on one part of the Outposts. You CAN fight someone(guild) for their outpost.
You could also, work with other guilds (I have started to already) to define which outposts are of value to you. (This is currently hard to assess as we do not know the full scope.)
There is clearly stated the fact that you will not be able to walk up to an outpost that is not guild occupied and own it. Someone(NPC's) will be living there. After that, civility seems to set in in my mind unless there is contention for a Outpost for some reason.
There are 31 outposts in Matis. How many guilds do you think there are based in Matis? 10-15 maybe?
Now, some outposts will have higher value. Taking Fearing Fens Farm in Upper Bog for example. A Farm in a Q200 optimal area, right next to the most highly utilized mat field in game at the moment. Seems that there may be a couple of guilds that should have their eye on this site. Now being Matis and having royal blood, we seem best suited to discuss things and work out a system. Does it make sense for us to fight continuously over this outpost? NO. It would be a waste of everyones time and resources.
I fear the outposts will be the first step, and the first line of defence in preparing for the inevetiable Kitin invasion. You must know they do not like us! Do not expect a large window of opportunity once they see us building our defences before they start to pester us.
One last point. As the high lvl zones will most likely be the first to be invaded it does not make sense for weaker guilds to possess these (IMO) as you will get overrun and lose all of your hard work on your Outpost. I would be glad to support and defned you, but not if you are INSANE about what outposts to try and protect.

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
I think the concern about outposts is that they seem to have gotten completely away from being a "bastion against the kitin" that many of us envisioned. I'm not sure how much PvP there will be with outposts, but I'd like to see some PvK, and there is no mention of it at all.marct wrote:I think everyone, let me repeat, everyone here that posts is way to caught up on one part of the Outposts. In fact the only mention of the outposts being related to a kitin invasion is in your post. I'd like to believe what you say is true, but I've seen absolutely nothing in Xavier's, Cerest's, or anyone else's posts to make me believe it. I've left a question regarding this specific issue in the "Q&A IV" thread above; perhaps they will answer it, and shed some light on this. Until they do, I unfortunately can only go by what they've said so far.

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
In most games that open without PVP, have some troubles and then release PVP, it is most often used as a slight of hand diversionary tactic. "OVER HERE, there is no man behind that curtain!"
I don't work in France, I don't get to see the behind the scenes stuff, but PVP outposts just seems like a bone to keep us distracted by the fact that their dev team is either overwhelmed or things are NOT going well. I hope I am wrong.

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
seriously, i cannot give conclusive proof, i cannot even say exactly where i get this from, but i know this: since way back in beta, when outposts were mentioned, i and my whole guild always had the outposts in mind as being pvp-driven.
they may not have mentioned it outright(perhaps they even did, but my memory fails me there), but they surely gave enough clues about them long before they were visible on the horizon.

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
I do believe that outposts are GvG not PvP, since a guild will take over an outpost from an NPC guild.
For another player guild to take over it, they have to challange the current outpost guild in some way (not completely clear in the Q&A how this is done).

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
I never heard, or got the impression from beta, that outposts were to be solely pvp-driven. I had other impressions of their uses, more like those of the original poster.xenofur wrote:seriously, i cannot give conclusive proof, i cannot even say exactly where i get this from, but i know this: since way back in beta, when outposts were mentioned, i and my whole guild always had the outposts in mind as being pvp-driven.
Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
All this speculation on the outposts is good and all but...... this is all on the assumption that the devs will ever put the outposts in the game at all. I've been hearing about them being put in the game since I started playing this in Jan. yet I have not seen a single outpost or a concrete date on them being implemented into the game. They probably have their hands full trying to work out the kinks already in the game and probably don't have alot of time to be adding large chunks of content like that right now.
Still though I'd like to see the outposts put in the game, it'd be alot of fun defending them against waves of kitins or infidels from enemy guilds

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
I also got the impression there would be non-PvP elements to outposts. Maybe it's a case of wishful thinking. We all interpreted vague information according to our own ideals. We'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Just to be clear Outposts does not equal all out PvP.
I agree with marct here. I do believe that the outposts will play an important part in the lines of defense for any furture kitin invasions which will take place, eventually, and the outposts will not just be about PvP. They will be more about GvG from what I've read and interupted from Xavier's and Cerest's post.
There is a lot of speculation based from reading the Q&As, Xavier's and Cerest's post, and I don't know if we will get too much more info on outposts until they are actually released.
