Greets, new player here

Post by hijii »

greetings, I thought i'd try the 14 day trial, I come from a long list of mmorpg's ... just trying to find my little abode in cyberspace.

As of yet I dont know much about the game, I simply ran around the newby island digging sap, although i did notice am absence of players in the area i was in... At some point some of us new players wanted some help, but there was no one around to answer our questions. Are the newbe islands for new players only? Is there a way to talk to some more experienced players from there?

Im just asking because Im not sure im ready to go to the mainland, but i will have some questions from the vets.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, the newbie lands are for new players only. Once you leave there, there's no way to go back. That's why there's no experienced players there to help.

You can communicate to players on the mainland by direct tells but there's no chat channel that is shared.

This is something that's been discussed a few times recently on the forums as it presents a real obstacle to new players.

If you have questions, feel free to send me (Oshido) a tell.

I agree, do NOT leave the newbie islands until you have gained at least 25 to 30 levels in everything you even THINK you MIGHT want to do. I would also advise you to read the player written guides, quite a few good ones out there, even if some of them are a tad outta date.

I am on the come sooner side. The noob island has extraordinarily crappy equipment, and very limited community. You can come to the mainland, get assistance, and buy better stuff much much faster. The only reason I would say to stay on the noob island for a bit is to have some dapper to buy stuff with. As you can kill more stuff there for more money.

When I started, the info I saw said save 300,000 dapper and then come to the mainland. I think this is overkill. 100,000 is more than sufficient. I brought an alt over at lvl 0. I could manage fine because I know what to do. The only issue I see with it is you are currently stuck in a very small area, in Matis 10-20 meters outside the gates until you get to lvl 20-30 in an offensive skill or increase your sneaking abilities.

P.S. I am petitioning Ryzom to eliminate the Noob Islands. They could place a smallish area in the lvl 50 zone that is the noob area, and place the welcomers with some trainers tehre and all. This way you are in the community right away. If we cannot have this, I would say let me go back to the island to help them. Why is this a problem?

Is a problem because some players might ruin the game using the noobs. Want some examples? Selling armors with huge boosts who makes leveling to easy, making them (noobs) to careplan q150 mats, stunning real bitg mobs for them. A game too easy to finish becomes an empty game.
Also when a newcomer see a player who looks like a god to him (killing those real HUGE puny goaris in 1 hit) when that player asks him if he want to join his guild... what do you think would be the answer?
That which does not kill me makes me stronger.

This is already a problem. I see level 50s running around in Haddo jewels all the time. It's very unfair, but it isn't game-breaking.

As for gods, I think you overestimate how often newbies will ask to join a person's guild. They are more likely to join guilds with many members than guilds with strong members.

Finally it doesn't really matter at that level. I made an alt and got from level 1 to level 20 fight in one hour - on the mainland. Those first 20 levels are hard only because newbies are learning the game - in terms of balance they are pretty meaningless. A newbie with 2000 hp trying to kill creatures well above his level is going to have a harder time than a newbie with 200 hp chain-killing suckling yubos for 600 experience a pop. Newbie island is all about learning curve, and while I'm sure the insulation is helpful in some ways, let us help newbies with that learning curve! All we need is a "newbie" channel.

Agreed, my last few alts all came to mainland immediately... Suckling Capi's are consistantly easy/fast XP to level 25+ and all within shot of the towns... you can also get a faster feel for the folks around and learn/hear things that may help you...
