DP and server shut down with no ig warning

I am extremely tired of returning from a server shut down, that was not forewarned in game, to see a mob standing over me as i lay already dead behind a please wait box.
Would greatly appreciate the powers trying harder to spend the moment it takes to send us an in game advisory to get to a safe place.

todays patch was announced yesterday. so you should have known it.

yup it was announced in a few places including a sticky at the top of this forum and on the front page

I believe what he's saying is that scheduled server shutdowns should be announced in game. You shouldn't be required to read the forums to play. I've never had the servers shut down on me without warning, but if that's what happened then what he's saying is legit. They've always had in game count downs before, they should be sure to always use them.

That's pretty specific when it will be happening, but having an in-game reminder *cough*MOTD*cough* would be helpfull for those people who don't surf the forums (even though everyone should).

Then again they may of just forgotten, since I've always seen an in-game warning of some sort of patches so far. Just remember, the devs are humans along with the rest of us and will undoubtedly forget things also.

I agree that IN GAME count downs are called for. It is not too much to ask for the GM's to hop on and do a count down before shutting off for patch/maintanence.

The issue of who is responsible for knowing when "scheduled" shut downs are is immaterial. There will ALWAYS be one or two people that would rather eat broken glass than read a forum, and they should not be punished when they play.

In fact, count downs can be automated to where the techs hit button X and the count down does itself.

Fortunately I was foraging at the time, but the plan HAD been to be hunting. There was no warning, and at first I thought it was just a nasty lag spike. Within 5 minutes I had surfed to a website that showed the current time in all the major cities.

9:42 am in Paris. Not nearly 10am.

Heck, there MIGHT have been a warning message if they waited long enough. Someone was in a hurry to get the 35-hour work week over with....

Yep yep. It was about 20 minutes earlier than scheduled. No warning MOTD or system message. Got a small please wait, resumed breathing and then was disconnected. Everyone on the voice chat with me was too. Was a little annoying.
