I have put a little more thought into this, to see how this could be set as a compromise by the player community.
The goal per say is to have the community wearing average gear, this is more than aparent in the game mechanics, lets put some guestimates to this.
60% of the community can wear or will end up wearing choice mat created armor, I am guessing this is where they were placing the numbers, so don't kill me on them.
30% of the community would end up wearing the excellent mat created armor, that leaves 10% for the supreme mat created armor.
(goes for weapons)
I don't think they intend for every tom dick and hary to be wearing supreme high quality items.
I have no clue if there is anyone in the game that can make q250 armor / weapons / jewelry.
Lets imagine for an instance that they could.
Lets also imagine that there is 1 person with q250 harvesting skills, so now we have 2 people in the game that can, between the 2 of them, create the highest armor / weapons in the game.
Lets say they give it all away for free, to quelch the price quota question.
Now lets imagine that everyone in the game has 100% supreme highest quality armor / weapons, with 100% across the board.
Now what?
Everyone is equal, the same, wears exactly the same q of everything, where's the individuality?
Now lets take a small peak at reality as I see it in the game currently.
To be self satisfied that your getting your buck worth, and you can't complain about anything anyone makes, or your stuff breaking and can't find a replacement, here is what you CAN do.
Ryzom, by design, allows ALL players to be everything.
So, although its not your 'thing' you keep harvesting equal to crafting in level, and you also need to keep your fighting skill equal to harvesting and crafting.
What will this do for you?
You can always make your own weapons that suite your level.
You can always make your own armor that suites your level.
You can always make your own general ussage equipment to suite your level.
You can always harvest the level of the materials you need.
You can always craft at the level you need.
Otherwise known as a balance growth.
Any high enough level harvestor can get q250 mats up to supreme in nature.
Any high enough level crafter an craft up to q250 items, what ever the flavor.
Any high enough level melee can go out and get killed by creatures that are level 250.
Any high enough level caster can go out and get killed by creatures that are level 250.
The point being, your not limited in this game to your class, your class is everything, every branch, every skill, the entire pool of options.
Your character was not born just a 'fighter', although you choose to only be a fighter, that is by choice, you can cast, harvest and craft.
They gave an open door option, thats the difference between ryzom and the other games.
Its just not enough.
whats with the lack of weapons in the merceints?

Re: whats with the lack of weapons in the merceints?
Give me a month and I'll craft those weapons for you. At the moment I'm stuck at q110 for Tryker medium armor, 2h pike and 1h swords. I also make bracelets up to q100 and bowrifle ammo up to q70 for extra credits.
I currently grind with choice mats that I forage myself (or with some help from my guildies) and I sell what I grind on market. Since I use decent mats they have decent stats and I sell at a decent price (my resale button has been set at 50% for a long time). If I happen to stumble on an excellent mat I'll toss it in there if it doesn't drop the more desired stats. I try to spread my stock around so if it doesn't move in one area, maybe it will move in another.
I do check the vendors for mats from time to time. They are usually without good mats or have been priced incredibly high (think "storage"). But its easier for me to go and harvest my own mats. I get the quantity and the quality I want and I get a few levels in harvesting as well. Which explains that my harvesting level is 50 levels higher than my crafting level.
I'll admit that I craft at my max level exclusively unless for special requests.
When I harvest in other lands I do place what I find on vendor (since I don't have any other race plans). The mats do sell and they sell quickly (resale button at 50%, remember??)
I'm not rich but I am comfortable (except when my Haddo Originals wear out).
I tend to craft what I need or get them from guildies. I don't require them to be made of supreme mats (which explains why everyone kicks my arse in duels).
I think I would craft more (and higher Q) if mats were more available. It takes a lot of mats to raise the Q level of crafting. I'm picky about what I craft with because I want the end product to be good enough to put on market. Harvesters are the only ones that can supply good mats in large quantities. Hunters are kinda left out since herbivores with good mats don't drop much and the carnivore mats which are plentiful don't produce items with desirable stats (generalization, I know).
Okay... I had a point... no, I didn't... just sharing my perspective.
PS: 600k an hour??? Show me how!!

I knew someone would make that point and it's valid, I could dig and make my own...fair enough I won't argue the point. The simple answer is I joined ryzom to kill kitin. I've crafted in other games... sometimes it's fun sometimes it's tedious. The point is if i wanted to be a crafter I could go back and play one of those again. If the developers intend for most people to wear avg gear then a character should be able to advance in avg gear. Now maybe that's just because I'm melee and there has been talk about fixes. But, the mobs can't keep getting tougher and my gear getting worse. At some point the fun factor reaches zero.
I mentioned in my prior post that i don't have a problem paying for guality. Money is a goal, it is something that i can acquire thru hard work and by fighting. In almost every other game i've ever played money was the deciding factor in the quality of the gear you can buy. From what i'm hearing, that's not the case here and at least to me that seems like a problem. If the supply of high quality material is so small only a handful can ever own them no matter what... then this game is no better than EQ... i'd hoped that wasn't the case.
Rakujitsu, I realise that many of the item's I need you all will eventually be able to make. But, that's not neccesarily my point...just because I maybe one of the privileged few at some point still doesn't make it right. Everyone should have an opportunity to achieve what they want if they are willing to work hard enough. If nevrax places an artificial barrier. If they say only by choosing a certain build or by being lucky enough to join an uber guild can you get certain items...well I for one am disappointed. I think there's enough of that in the real world and no need for more of it in yet another game.

Crafting Qlvl 250 Choice+ items and selling it back to NPCs with decent fame yeilds me 65k-70k+ per item. 10 items is thus 650k to 700k+
This is High quality items I grind to make the XP higher. SO lets say 33 mats (high quality pike) requiring 33x10=330 mats. One can achieve 330 mats per hour of harvesting.

Now see, I believe this to be the heart of the matter. Many of us remember when obtaining the better mats was just an issue of being more careful, and being the exploratory type. Everyone was happy, things worked rather well. Then Nevy's devs decided "oops, they're running around in good stuff.. lots of them are' and introduced the first nerf - Kitin patrols.
We griped a bit, then learned to deal with it. We got better at radar dancing, and paying attention to everything around us, and those who learned this adjusted, and the population remained relatively happy.
Nevy's devs once again, decided we still had too much of the 'good stuff'.. and introduced another nerf - season/weather/time of day dependancys.. ok.. sucked for a while, but, yet again, those of us that were still diligent were able to adjust, and people were still relatively happy.
Still too many people with good stuff apparently.. (good lord this is getting old now, huh?) So now we are into the third round of nerfs disguised as a 'feature'.. Open pvp in the lands of umbra and nexus, no patrols in the lands of umbra, and in exchange, us harvesters are awared with approximately 140 excellent, and 70 supreme, before the source is pretty much dead untill a reboot, in EVERY PR location..
Hmm... Where's that 'special bonus' that we were told we would get? The lack of patrols? Not a very good tradeoff. Especially considering that the chosen locations were only *ever* popular with hardcore diggers. Nobody else willingly goes down there and stays for hours on end. - End result? Almost nobody is happy. Even those who are the lucky ones and get the good mats, because now, they're afraid to use and share them.
Personally, I'd rather it had stayed with patrols and season time dependancy, because with this last change to mat availability, all Nevy has done is to promote 6 hour waits in one spot, all the while praying that you're the first to be waiting on this particular mat, and all that's happening is frustrated people wondering howcome they're trying so hard to pit us against each other, instead of battling these evil creatures and goo that we've been told time and time again are a danger to the planets well being as a whole. I'm sure many of us wish that Nevy would make up thier mind. Its either us vs. the kitin, or us vs. us.
If it's the latter, I for one would like to know, so I can start looking around for another game that's as close to this as possible.
Re: whats with the lack of weapons in the merceints?
Randyval;
Out of curiosity I have to ask. What exactly are you looking for that you cant find. What is the level and type of sword your looking for as well as the minimum HPM and Max damage of the weapon (or Damage over time).

I have to agree here, totally. I do not care much for PvP. I'll do it, if forced, but it's nothing that excites me or that I look forward to, or will even participate in unless I have no other recourse. From what I can see, in the future developement of things, everything is starting to took like it is gearing up for huge PvP. Us vs. Us. Kami vs. Karavan. That's not what I joined for. I joined this game to fight kitin, and the goo (hence, I'm a zorai). If I wanted mass pvp with flimsy reasons for doing so, I could have stayed with Shadowbane, or Star Wars Galaxies. Shadowbane was always open PvP (no reason needed, pk at will), and SWG is gearing up to be exactly the same. So, I wish Nevrax would make a statement one way or the other as to which is truly intended, so that I can move to another game now, before I waste everyone's time, mine more importantly.
As for the crafting issue, I'm one of those that does not like to dig and craft, and I don't wish to spend days and days and days doing it. I know a lot of people who enjoy it, and I say leave it to them. I will happily go along as protection, or hunt the animal mats that are within my capabilities to do so. And I understand making a profit on items made. You deserve to be rewarded for your efforts. But I have seen some VERY greedy individuals out there. In one case, and I will not name names, I looked at two items on a vendor. One item was priced 400k+, with so-so stats. Another item, of the same qlvl and quality, with MUCH better stats, being sold by another crafter, was 100k. Obviously, there were LOTS of the 400k+ items left on the vendor, and very few of the 100k items left on the vendor. As one would expect. But what most people don't think ahead on is the fact that eventually, all that would be left are the 400k+ items, and someone desperate enough WOULD buy those weapons, which in turn tells that crafter that his/her price was just fine, and the market would support said price. And, unfortunately, although the market MAY support that price, it doesn't make it right. It just drives market values up, and once up, market values in MMO's VERY RARELY ever drop again. Because people will just say, "Well, so and so sold THEIR stuff for x dappers, therefore, I can too." You make a self fulfilling prophecy this way. In short, PLEASE don't ruin a market for those of us who don't decide to dig and craft all day, just because YOU want a lot of dappers.
Re: whats with the lack of weapons in the merceints?
180ql HA armor(preferably preferably fryos and white) (La as high as i cant get not fryos (preferably white)) (MA fryos as high as i can find (preferably white)) and 180ql swords...140-150amps i've seen neither in the last few days and i can travel to all the major cities...
And while what i occassionally sse is expensive...most time i see nothing

Re: whats with the lack of weapons in the merceints?
Now this is sounding more and MORE like EQ everyday. The nerfs, the devs against players, the game getting more and more difficult without ANYTHING to make it more fun.
Honestly I had wanted to JUST dig and craft, but you can't do that. There is just NO way to be a level five warrior/mage and level 250 digger in ANYTHING. ONE gas pocket proc and you are MINCE meat, not to mention all the melee skills like invuln and protection auras/speed up you need just to GET to the dig site.
If I had wanted an Ubber guild, camping game I got one already...wait...do I still HAVE all my EQ disks? Hmm then again...I probably DO NOT HAVE that game any more...deleted it three years ago.
I want a game that is FUN, not an endless game of outsmart the dev, then play catch up.
If I want a study in masochism, I will get a job in a daycare for ADHD kids, I think maybe the four year old room should do!
