Hope on the horizon

Post by glipe »

*Caution - This story contains directions to the teleports in the Abyss, those who wish to find them by themselves should refrain from reading further. Sanz*

I took part in the Gauntlet on Sunday evening. An interesting but frustrating event it reminded me of the days when I used to sneak about everywhere. I once almost made it through the kitin hordes during the Matis Kitin incursion. I had become preoccupied with other area of the game (damned addictive harvesting and crafting!) and forgotten my lowly roots as a sneaker.

As my dp was maxed by the end of the event (dp to get to the event quickly too!) I decided that last night was the time to get some practice. So I did. I stayed in the Abyss of Ichor for hours, studying the patrols and the mob areas. Working out where the tp's would probably be and the best method to get there. This involved quite a few instances of death. Horrible, messy, gorey death. I am not of a level where I can even scratch the mobs down there. But then a change came.

Suddenly I could see a path!

If you move to the right of the gorge near the start of the Abyss (the Matis end, so West if you will.) you can move your way carefully between the Tyrancha and Kincher hordes (+the ocassional varinx). From there, move to the east of the marauders camp, between the camp itself and the Tyranchas beside. Then, it's a straight run through some sparse Varinx and Cutes to the Yelks and Bodocs in the Watch! Tada! Karavan Teleport! Moving almost directly East from there (quickly to avoid the Patrol that almost walks directly over the Karavan TP! WAH!) I only had a few Cutes and some plodding Tyranchas to avoid to get to the canyon where the cool looking Kami Tp dude was waiting. And I found the only friendly tribe I saw in the entire area! Phew! (Man, are the Sap Gleamers cool btw! What fighters! Very impressive watching them take down a Tyrancha who strayed to close!) Kitin tunnels, more enemy tribes and a kidinak (hmmm, wonder what's down there?) who had the glory of being the first enemy to chop me down since I had started my lucky run! I backtracked my way to the west of the map and moved south down to the wrecked outpost there. From that it was a fairly straightforward run to get to the portal to the Nexus! I'd done it!

Now, this isn't just a post to big-up Sanz the Explorer. This is a post to tell all the people who have joined up recently and think of certain areas of the prime roots as no-go zones (I've talked to many who have felt this way) that it can be done. Without any fighting or using fancy auras and abilities. Just a keen eye and some good compass work. Leave taking back the underworld to the high level players but don't think that this means you shouldn't go down there. Don't get me wrong, you will get DP but you can make it! And the sights down there and in the Nexus make it all worthwhile.

P.s. I also explored most of the Nexus and a little of the next area to get a closer Teleport back to the Nexus - The prize that awaits all homins to cross the Abyss.

Interesting, veeery interesting :D

One question - as a total 'pre-noob' (still on the Matis island) :o am I likely to be PKed sneaking around in there if I try pretty early when I arrive on the mainland? It is a PvP zone yeh? Not worried about DP but would you recommend treating other players as potentially hostile in there or what? Cos it sounds like the mobs & tribes will be quite enough to worry about :)

Thanks for the tips,
Quantum.

Simple answer: no.

I ran into a few people when I finally managed to get to the Nexus (PvP). Said hi to them and though they weren't very chatty (busy and high level by the looks of things) they were by no means aggressive. While sneaking I didn't see any blue dots on the Compass, even at full range. On the few ocassions I had the opportunity to do a quick /who there was only me there. There are very, VERY few PKers on Atys. And they won't just kill you, there will be a reason.

Its not Pk'ers your gotta worry about, they too busy running away from mobs ;) I must say I've never ever ever been Pk'd by another player I didnt enter into a duel with.

most people dont go to roots to Pk they go there to dig or sneak, I'm guessing you might be waiting a long time before you see a blue dot on your radar if your camping a spot to Pk then you would have to sneak through many nasty mobs to get to blue dot, probably to find its some PR harvester who happens to be an avatar of destruction.........so you walk away quickly
