first off zum

why not read the link and find out that UO is an AMERICAN made game, run by an AMERICAN company, so there is precedence in AMERICAN law

so this would be that this is an AMERICAN problem, the joys of having a legal system you can sue someone for spilling hot coffee on yourself

here is the link to the blog about it

http://terranova.blogs.com/terra_nova/2004/04/uo_lawsuit_sett.html

funny i noticed that eq has STOPPED having volunteers, maybe you should read before spouting off at the mouth about something you're wrong about

That seems to be the way of things, one person ruins the fun of the bunch. Like the ONE kid that got the seating rearranged in High school because he couldn't sit still and listen.

There have been issues in the past with volunteer systems, but honestly there needs to be something that allows the US server to have more than one or TWO events every five or six months.

Actually it is a legal issue. Mainly because our server is state-side and the guides would be performing their duties on an American server. We do have guides, but very few as Fadin has stated in the past. And while we'd like to change that there's always the legal issues surrounding guides that makes us hesitate in recruiting more guides.

What a shame.
At the Maewyn Festival in Yrkanis last week I did a /who and I counted about 15 guides and gm's online.
After talking with a guide, it seemed they play the game too as players. And the are guides, just because they love the game. So it is also a step for players who want to do more for the game then just play it.

That is also the reason why EE server has so much events lately. It's the guides who organize them (along with a couple of players, like Mikelaw and Kibs soon).

I hope your situation will change soon...

I'm surprised if they flat out told you... It was pretty obvious to me, but still, not many people seem to realise it.

ok to get this back a bit on topic about the lack of events on the NA

<disclaimer>
sorry cerest if this seems like mudslinging and such but it's to illustrated a point and not to run anyone down but just shed some light on the subject itself, that and i don't want to bring down the wrath of cerest on me, i've been told stories
</disclaimer>

with that being said on with this rant

i'm guessing raynes is a super genius since he thinks that anyone can learn a whole new tool within two weeks that will have major impacts on a large production server, is takashi decides to take 1 month to learn the tool and develop and event, then i'd rather him take the time and learn it

raynes you claim to be a comp sci guy, however you don't demonstrate any of the knowledge of action working in a real prodcution environment. so i'm going to assume you don't have a degree in comp sci or if you do have one you've never been gainfully employed in a large scale production environment

the reason i say this is because you think that someone can learn a tool in under 2 weeks, after two weeks of learning a tool such as the one takashi has, i'd be scratching the surface of it only.

now to use me as an example, i started learning linux 7 years ago, after 2 weeks of using it i still had little or no clue about the inner workings of the system, i could log in and kill processes but that's about it really, oh yeah i could use pine and run my irc bot. i ended up installing it on my home pc as my only os about 6 years ago, it still took me 2 or 3 more months of learning before i thought i knew it pretty well. now 6 years later i'm still not an expert but i know a heck of a lot about it.

so if takashi can learn the tool within a month i'll be happy and especially without training

but i guess you're a super genius raynes that know everything about anything you touch and since you're such a super dooper person, why are you whining and complaining constantly on the forums instead of going out there and making the millions someone of your oblivous superior intellect should be earning.

Guides, in America can be VOLENTARY, as in NO PAY, regarless of any arguement you try to come up with, again, like I said, I was a Volentary GUIDE in EQ, no pay.

It is NOT AMERICAN LAW stopping them from hiring guides, it is FRENCH LAWS that govern anything they do, and everything they pay for, including personel.

You can bang on that till your blue in the face if you want, it has nothing to do with America, never has, never will.

French employees are a different issue than american volenteers.

Unfortunately, even unpaid volunteers are considered Agents of the company/organisation. Therefore, any of their actions while working for the organisation can be held against the organisation.
As an example, if you volunteer for "meals on wheels" and rob a bank on your lunch hour using the MoW van, then run over a pedestrian while fleeing the scene, MoW can be sued to recover the cash lost, police overtime while looking for you, the pedistrian's injuries and lost wages, etc.
Not exactly fair, but part of corporate law...

EQ, I know the rules / regulations for there guides and when they get them / how they get them, and frankly why they get them, only because I was one of them.

So what ever you say about EQ and there guide system and wether or not there getting more guides, has no bearing on this, its your view, not fact.

Just FYI, since your so hung up what Sony is doing as far as guides, they are flooded with applications to become a guide, they have a max % guide per % player base in EQ, on top of that to become a senior is another story altogether.

I am of the personal oppinion that the % of player base on the American server just does not justify the use of guides at this time, nothing more.

And no, UO or EQ or any other company has to deal with any unwritten law when it pertains to players in game who are guides, its a freaking title in Ryzom, unpaid players who help other players and follow rules on how they help players.

If you had ever been a guide you would know this.

Internal paid employees are what is a problem with laws, not unpaid volentary individuals with an ingame title of 'guide'

Here is what you get as a guide.
A staff and a few other items to help players.
A few extra commands to summon stuck players etc.
Your own chat channel to talk to other guides.
And alot of stand around and answer questions days.

Maybe tools to help create events.

Thats it.

This is not rocket science, nothing to do with laws, they just give you a power account to perform actions in game.

Everyone keeps blowing what a guide is out of perportion and staiting law this law that, but not 1, not a single person, can show documented proof of a law in existance, that states how guides are.

You can blob about hot cofee all you want, until they server hot cofee to us, it has no bearing.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.
