Indeedy, the RAID engine is simply an extension (or even a part as you say) of the AI system. The reason they dubbed it RAID is because it's built to handle large numbers of AI entities properly without grinding everything to a halt. And it works very well indeed, it's just that we haven't seen a lot of it.

We've had a couple of raids or invasions since release (and several during beta), however since the raid events need tidying a little, I guess Nevrax doesn't want to stuff them in our faces too much... 'Oh look, the Kitin invaded again, what a surprise...'

The RAID engine is a new concept in any MMO and N took it upon themself to tread these new waters, and did a good starter job, the only thing the engine is lacking, is finality.

When you kill a creature during a RAID engine ran event, it should stay dead, not respawn. The event in this fassion would allow for a smoother forward flow.

But like I said, there doing a first that no other company can do.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

Well, as a follow-up to my earlier post - it happened this week. Mass defection to EQ2 and WoW by our guild. Most of us will keep our toons here more or less until patch 3, but last night 7 of us were on EQ2 and another 4 (who couldn't stomach EQ2 for whatever reason) were playing WoW. Others in our guild will likely follow shortly.

Maybe we'll be enticed back by patch 3. It hurts to leave 'cause I love this game, but I won't play in a place without my friends.

(those who wish to hook up with previous SoR's we've landed on the EQ2 Oasis server)

Good Luck to those left behind

Would the kami tolerance still go down if we tried to strip a region of it's goo? It would be neat if harvesting goo increased the kami tolerance. :)

Been a long time since I last saw a goo creature.
But as for "regular" goo, you can harvest all you want and it won't make a difference (assuming it hasn't change in latest patch, since I couldn't be arsed to try again).
Been harvesting it in Witherings (mainly Void) for hours and with teams, no difference. Zip, zero, zilch, nada....
As a Zorai one of my greatest concerns (as a character) is the goo.
I have the feeling that the ability to fight goo is a rite to come, or first available later in the SoR story.
As anyone spendeng a lot of time in Witherings, you will see that the goo is slowly spreading.

I think that that is the part that is upsetting ALOT of players...we were promised that we could make a CHANGE in the game world, a permanent change that was a result of OUR actions. In beta I read all the web site stuff, and it seemed rather clear to me that this wasn't JUST outposts, that EACH server world would develope differently than the others.

Now I can't say that each world is exactly alike, but I do not see how they could be radically different with the current state of the game. HOW could there be a difference when NOTHING we do changes anything anywhere in game.

This has me disappointed to say the least, and has me saying, "what's the point" when I even think of in game. What point is there to gaining a level or two...what difference does it make??!!

NONE.

Left for WoW? I quit Ryzom for WoW, now I"m back in Ryzom. I though WoW had really dated graphics (but they do a nice job textureing to make things look nicer) and got boring really quick. There are many other things lacking in WoW like no weather effects and pointless PvP system. The only good thing I can really say about WoW is the HUGE world to play in. Otherwise, it's just another game full of elves, dwarves, etc... After playing DAoC for the last two years, I found WoW to be much of the same. I much perfer the skill tree that Ryzom uses. Instead of having to make a new toon because you want to try casting, you can just change armor and start casting...your're group needs a healer..no reason to log and get another toon..you can use the same one.

Just my two cents..let the flames begin..lol

I've also started playing EQ2. I just can't handle going months and months with no content updates. Nor can I handle the complete lack of story or quests in Ryzom. I like many are going to keep my subscription running. That can't last forever though. And the longer I am away from this game, the less inclined I'm going to want to start playing again.

In case anyone is wondering I am emob on the DeLuca server

You've hit the nail on the head - the flexibility of the characters is what makes this game GREAT! The problem is the lack of objectives besides levelling...
I am still subscribed, but haven't logged in except for the contests and to patch. I'm playing the free Anarchy Online - crappy graphics, interesting tradeskills [though not as good as here IMO], free, not boring YET due to the instanced mission dungeons. I'm hoping to return to Ryzom when AO gets boring [only level 46 there, so probably haven't hit the grind yet]. Hopefully there will be more "content" here by then...

I am finding it like Raynes, harder and harder to get myself to log into the game, I find it interesting to log in, grind harvest for 5 hours, to blow it all in 10 minutes of crafting to gain a few levels.

Then when that is said and done, log off, fix dinner for the family, watch some tv.

Weekends seem to have disappeared from yay ryzom finally, to playing fantasy star with my son more and more as we level up in that game.

What I find intersting is that although sure, leveling in that game is a grind at times, it has an end game to it, that you can continue on afterwards into a harder game play, stronger stuff, but still seems like countless fun to me.

We'll get around to playing 2 and 3 when we get board of 1.

Ryzom no longer has a point to me, it lost it somewhere along the lines of "players make choices that change the world and make the server unique" to "look kittin, kill kill kill, look, nothing, grind grind grind" and "sorry kids, you did all that and the world is the same"

*shrugs*

Told my wife I am keeping the sub through outpost implamentation, if thats a flop, then I will probably leave the game also.

The people that I played with is what get me hook to the game. It's the chat and bantering while grinding that makes it fun for me. It's hard to find a group of people you enjoyed playing with. That's really the addiction part for me.

Me think that with the current low level of content, if you go at it alone you'll lose interest pretty fast.

p.s. I would also like to add that with the "changing the world of Atys" feature, I am thinking that Nevrax is planning the thing out for 8 years, and the actual "server differences" won't be until a little bit more down the line, when they get more contents in.
