Newcomer seeking for info

Post by elyxka »

Hello everyone,

I just started SoR two days ago and, I’m kinda scared. During my 5 hours in Trykers starting zone, I met 2 persons… Now, I just browsed the forums… According to the number of threads/posts, Eu community is by far the smallest… ouch… And, it seems that you are only a few to actually participate.

So, I’m wondering how many people are playing on a regular basis?
Is it easy/hard to group? Is there a lot of activity? Do you feel that you are not alone after the starting zone?

TBH, I can play on French server as it seems the community is way bigger. However, it won’t be my first choice and I will do so only if the low population significantly impacts the gameplay.

Thanks in advance for your answers and, please, try to be objective ;) I really want to "enter in Ryzom universe" but I’d like some inside feedbacks.

Thanks,

Elyx

Hi Elyx,

Less than 1% of the EU players post on the forums.... most of them are either too busy enjoying the game, some are a little shy.

Starter Isle had a mass exidus about a week ago when one of the champions there made the great leap to the main land.

There are two schools of thought on Starter lands, stuggle and grow there or jump to the main land a seek help for the community.

I personally would suggest exporing the starter lands, they are much more low lvl char friendly and fun in their own way.

useful commands:

/who .....this will tell you who is in the region (starter isles is a single region)
/who gm ....this will tell you the GMs and Guides who are online, never be afraid to ask, the guild will be very helpful.

/tell playername msg ... this will allow you to talk to a person anywhere in the game directly. Even between starter isle and the main land.

The majority of players once you reach the main land will help you with what ever you need be it advice or equipment.

Hope this gives you some faith that there is people out there :D

We have been debating this very subject, so we know how you feel and it highlights that our worries were not unfounded.

See you in Fair Haven.

Welcome to the community!

I play on the North American server so I cannot comment on the player population or distribution of the European server. However, I wanted to mention a couple of things about the forums and about the new player experience in Ryzom in general.

First, the amount of forum activity is perhaps not a very good indication of relative server populations. Most notably, the NA forum tends to be pretty active because, apparently, we like to whine and complain a lot. For whatever reason, I think the NA forum is overly active compared to the number of players.

Second, the isolation of the new player island is something that has been discussed a few times on the forums. The island you start out on is completely isolated from the mainland. People on the mainland can't get back to the island and there's no general chat channel where you can interact with players on the mainland from the island. I personally think this is a bad thing as it generates the sense of complete emptiness that you describe.

During your trial period, I would suggest getting your character up to ~30 in a combat skill and then heading to the mainland. The mainland is where you'll really see what the day-to-day population is like.

Yesss, I got the first reply in before Neun and Frydeswinde could, Mwahaha. Anyway sorry about that elyxka. I'm on the Tryker mainland and have been for about 2 months now. The starting zones are always quiet (at least they were when I was there). You will find alot of people to meet and team up with when you get to the mainland so don't worry about it. Hope to see you there!

I helped a lowbie from level 6 on the mainland to get up to speed, ie level 20. So come whenever you like and join a guild/group. When you get to the mainland you can see for yourself how many/few of us there are.

Yeah all of the main points have been said already I think, apart from the fact that the EE playerbase ingame is probably the largest because we have all the Scandinavians (among others) and were "the" trial server for a while :D

i can say the EU server is good enough , loads of friendly players and hunts and such, altought load sof players hide in their favorite spots, harvsting and waitn for the outposts to be launched soon!

So come join the others at mainlands and have fun!

ps: just get your melee lvl to 21, mage to 21 and you are set to go actualy, harvsting and craft can also be done on mainlands so dont bother on the diggin if you are in for some action in SoR. Also if you need any gear i can always give you some jewels qlt 110 and armor qlt 100(light) if you want to get geared up :)

Hi Elyx

I'm playing on the Euro english server, but I have 8 hrs time difference to cope with :( (i'm currently living in Asia). So whenever I'm online, it's usually at an hour at which I expect not many people to be playing (morning in Europe).

It might be reassuring for you that I can state that even in these hours, I usually find a group to team with. I don't know about the population at 'rush hour', but my guess is, based on my off-hours experience, that it must be quite lively.

My recommendation: get your levels up to 20ish (at least for melee and magic) and head over to the real thing! I can confirm what was stated numerous times before: people are very friendly, and newcomers get a warm welcome.

Hope to meet you soon on the mainland!
