Re: A new Guild has surfaced
OK... so, I'm generally not at all politically correct... But given that "The Final Solution" was how the Third Reich referred to the Holocaust... (http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/fsol.htm)... Your guild name rather squicks me out.lankin wrote:"The Final Solution" is now here and Atys will never be the same We have our HQ in the great city of Pyr. Jessie is our leader.

Re: A new Guild has surfaced
Eh that's probably a coincidence! Imagine if we have to stay alert for every word we say, because it can let other remember bad stuffs from the past! That way we could not speak anymore! eheh
It's a new for me that "Final Solution" was used by German in the Second World War.
And here in Europe we study the story of that war pretty well.

Re: A new Guild has surfaced
I always thought that "The Final Solution" was just an analogy to "The end to a means"
Nothing more.. unless you go with out meanings, which could mean,
"I gave The Final Solution to the toilet after that long party and to much to drink"
"In science class, The Final Solution blew up in my face"
"The Final Solution is 8 when you add 4 + 4"
Blah blah blah..
Anyway, don't read negative into someones guild name, it just bleeds.

Re: A new Guild has surfaced
Though I honestly doubt it was a coincidence I don't see a problem with it. If someone is wanting to affiliate themselves with such an attrocity they are probably aware of the issues and are ready to deal with it.
Without the actions they're just words. And if they intend to roleplay the "cleansing" of a race or culture then it's up to us as the rest of the players on the server with opposing points of view to stop them - simple as that.

Re: A new Guild has surfaced
Take Keoni's guild name for instance:
One word for the meaning behind "Cirlce of Light" is "Nimbus" (Latin for cloud)
Another is "Halo" (Greek word meaning disc)
However, In contrast, with the use of "Trinity" in your signature, your stating that your guild is that of: "Tri-Radiant Nimbus", in Latin this is symbolizing the Trinity
A nimbus is a radiance of light surrounding the head which appears the same when seen from any angle.
The defining of "Circle of Light" guild name and thus associating the guild on the same level of Christ in the Christianity religion.
Which in turn is stating that the guild is Divine in nature and like Christ, son of God and Savior in Christianity.
That or we just take the face value of the guild name and go with its just "Circle of Light", a nice guild name.
I am just pointing out, don't read to much into a guilds physical name, unless they post the purpose why they chose it.
Welcome to Ryzom, guild "The Final Solution", which is difrentiated from the bad posting of "Final Solution" as stated above, which both have two different meanings completely.
And no, the Nazi didn't use "The Final Solution" for anything, theres was "Final Solution", poor translation of the words to english, the actual translation is "End Resolution", not "Final Solution"

Re: A new Guild has surfaced
Gotta go with Zumy on this one. Its rather hard to claim that one guild has a politically incorrect name, when the one pointing the finger also has a politically incorrect name (not Circle of Light, but referring to it as the trinity. which is false anyway, since its more like a duo). Kinda the pot calling the kettle black...

Morg, I really have simply ceased being able to understand you at all.totnkopf wrote:Gotta go with Zumy on this one. from Websters:
Circle of Light consists of 3 homins. Thus, by definition, it is a trinity. I know you are literate enough to know this, and I also know you have enough pagan background to know that there are other religious trinities besides the Christian one - for instance, the three aspects of the Goddess: Mother, maiden, & crone. Given that you know all this, why are you making a case out of it? Do you for some reason feel compelled to post something contrary to anything I post? If so, hey - knock yourself out.trinity - 2 not capitalized : a group of three closely related persons or things
As for the term "The Final Solution" - anyone with a good working knowledge of 20th Century history knows *precisely* what it refers to. Do a google search on the phrase and see what % of the top results end up referring to anything other than the Holocaust.
Is it possible that the members of the guild were unaware of the term's historical context when they named it? Sure. Would that make it squick me out any less? Nope.

Would you happen to be the crone?
