Death penalty a little to much for high lvl crafters/harvesters?

Post by mrozzy »

I'm a pretty decent harvester, and a pretty good crafter in sevral craft trees. When I die and respawn, I get over 350.000 death penalty each time. I like to explore, but that comes with a prize, death & death penalty.

I never really worried about it, but I went a little hiking trip in the Wastelands yesterday evening. Getting a new tp I was still lacking, finding safe routes to specific spots, getting in touch with new tribes and map out material locations. Result: some good fun, and max dp.
Today I started paying it off, but soon I realised, I need to pull about 1600 mats before my dp will be paid off. Fighting it off isn't really an option, since I've spend most of my time harvesting & crafting, my fight level has been fallen behind a bit. If I would like to pay off my dp fighting mobs, I would have to kill about 350 mobs wich give me 3000 xp each time.

Now this is stil managable, but what will it be in a month or 2, when I will have hit lvl 200+ in 3-5 different crafting trees? If it stays like this, I will have to harvest a whole week before I can pay off max dp ... isn't this a bit to much?

Both fighters and mages can get at a very high level in a few weeks, but a crafter/harvester, has to play for sevral months to get his level high enough and to be able to offer a wide range of goods to the community. Now I'm gonne have really big problems if I die, just even once ..

I have found, if I go offline for the night and come back the next day, my DP has dropped considerably :)

Just something I noticed :)

It drops with 10% each day (10% of max dp) .. but it still takes 10 days to get rid of max dp.

So, what do I do .. don't play for 10 days?

Hello

Just in case you didn't know (I guess you do know) having several 200+ branches or just one will not change your DP, which is only computed taking into account your highest skill.

To answer your question, there is also a very possible way to get rid of your DP and it's crafting. True, most players will not do this since it is a waste of mats (although you still get paid) but if the only thing you want is to get rid of DP fast, you can "cross craft". For example, imagine you are lvl 220 amp crafter, so you have "Weapon Craft 23" skill. Using that skill and q230 mats you can, for example, craft pikes. If your pike is lvl 150, you can get, on a perfect item (q230) about 10k, which means 15*10k = 150k DP points. Of course, you will mostly get degrades, but it is still a very fast way to get rid of DP.

Same thing with heavy armors, etc. In conclusion, a combination of digging and crfting will get you rid of DP faster, at the expense of craft xP

So, 2 hrs or so for you to pay off max dp by harvesting, i would hardly call that difficult :p

See here for a table showing DP calculations : http://ballisticmystix.com/deathPenalty ... mode=table

Hey, stop complaining :P

Getting rid of dp is easy when u have a high lvl solo skill like harvest or craft.
I have ny highest lvl in melee(60lvl's higher than my harvest), and i'm having a hell of a time working off my dp with harvesting when i can't find any teams to hunt with.
But then i will have lots of mats ready to boost my crafting lvls when my dp is clear.... :)

With someone applying care, yes, but that will cut your xp in half (at least), so only half the amount of dp will be paid of .. so that makes 4 hours (without any interruption).

I can see fighters and mages paying of thier dp in half an hour (they are also able to level 4-5 times faster then a harvester). Since my primary skill is harvest .. I can't fight to pay off dp. (well I can, but thats even slower :p )

Now about not getting dp .. well I like to explore, I like to go to places just a select few have visited, I'd like to try new things, ...

Now, I'd like to point out what I mean more clearly:

- Harvesters get the same amount of dp as a fighter, mage, ... of the same level.
- Harvesters have to spend a lot more time paying it off, since getting xp in harvesting is a lot slower then any other skill.
- Harvesters can get killed more easely, they don't carry wepons, they wear focus gear, so have a lot less hp, they have to go to places most people try to avoid, if they want to have decent mats. Harvesters stay at the same spot for a while, in dangerous area's this can be quite deadly.
- In order to get the mats you need, you have to go all around the place, you can't just go to your favorite spot and level all the time, .. So its more important to travel around, get new spanws and tp's, ... A fighter or mage can stay at one spot and level all day. A harvesters source gets depleted and he/she has to move to a new spot. If you want to craft things, you have to visit new spots on a regular basis.
- Harvesters don't team up, usualy there isn't a healer around, harvesting is mostly a solo activity. Even if a team gets whiped, all people are hit with dp, so the whole team will be eager to pay it off, and it will be paid off in no time.

So, conclusion, .. harvesters can get killed more easely, they have a way more dagerous job, and as a little bonus, they have to spend a lot more time paying off dp.

Oh, and the most frustrating thing is .. tracking down a source you were looking for the whole past week, getting killed a few times trying to get to it. Once you did reach it, you start to prospect, and you get the message: "This source is empty for now, you have to wait a while before it gets back" .. wich usually means at least sevral hours, and there is no way to see when it gets up, since the tracker doesn't tell you.

After finally getting those mats, you craft a wepon or something for a guild member, he tells you politely "thank you", very excited he/she starts hunting. 2-3 Hours later your guildmember shows up again and tells you: "I just got 10 more fight levels, I need a new wepon" ..
