Unable to install from download

Post by hans1976 »

Hello all,

Sometimes I dont sit behind my own computer for a few days, but I still would like to play then.

Last week I downloaded from this link:
http://dl.nevrax.com/ryzom-full-p2.exe

I opened the exe, some unpacking took place and then some installation. After that, a dos box started some updating. After that, Ryzom attempted to run automatically. I got the following error:

"Cannot create screen 1024x768"

After clicking ok, the application closed.

Then I wanted to run ryzom_client_config.exe but I received the error that some files were newer than other and the application closed again. I gave up after that, reasoning that the computer I wanted to play on was too old anyway (and I suppose didnt have a proper 3D card).

This weekend I will be in someone else's house for a few days again (new neighbor who isn't home and who house I can use while working on my own new house) and she has a computer that is 3 months old. Okee, it is a basic Dell, but better then no Ryzom at all.

Before I download the 1.4 Gig again, I want to know if this is a common error on the installer or that it was the old computer that did it.

Thank you all :-)

I'm 99% sure that I downloaded the same file and installed from it OK.

I think you're right with the 'cannot create screen' error being 3D hardware related. I haven't seen the other error - I wonder if you were missing either some OpenGL or Direct3D files, and that caused the config program to spit out the strange message? Could you tell if the message related to Ryzom files, or system files? It sounds a bit like a Windows message to me, maybe a set of DLLs is out of sync (version no.s)...

If the PC isn't used for up-to-date games, it could well have DirectX 8 or earlier - I think Ryzom is OK with DX8, but if it's any earlier, it's probably a no-go :)

Good luck with the Dell Frydes :)

Sis - I had this problem on a second machine.

My graphics card kept having driver problems.

I did however find that with Windows XP SP2, that there is a pop-killer built in to the new security system. I have disabled this, I am behing a Hardware fire wall, and the machine has had less issues!

Small clues in solving the mystery of why Ryzom struggles on one machine and runs perfectly on another!
