I'm a level 85 fighter playing mostly in Matis. Except for once while following a trek into Zorai, I've never even seen the goo, much less harvested any of it. Because the goo is so far from the main cities, is this something only high level players can participate in? How does one harvest goo? Just point at it with pick in hand or does one need a certain level of foraging? (see, I told you they were dumb questions.) My foraging is skill is sub-newbie (level 15).
If this is something lower level characters can do or can help in, I would participate even if the rewards were simply acknowledgement that we helped our beloved Atys. While I'm sure you and others would prefer more GM sponsored events, that doesn't mean we should reject attempts at player-created, role playing events.
My other question is whether your toon (the Karavan-hater that he is) will tolerate working alongside Karavan followers that want to help on something like this. My toon does not wish to be berated for his Karavan supporting ways while trying to help a Kami follower in common purpose. While the Karavan do not see the goo as being as big a problem as the Kami do, we both recognize that it is a problem. As far as I can tell (in my limited reading), we're just arguing about an issue of degree.
Of course, my toon is as ignorant as I am in the detailed lore of the planet and only knows what little he was taught as a young Tryker. He is willing to learn more as long it is presented in a positive way. Angry denunciations of Jena and/or the Karavan will lead him to 'port back to home to do something more enjoyable and leave you with your purple goo.
As far as rewards, if participants were to put in an entrance fee and the resulting pot distributed between the top collectors, that would seem fair. I think this should be more about the role-playing opportunity than the reward anyway.
1) About the goo
Goo is a mission mat that the Kami welcomers ask players to get for a task mission. The task missions are all given my the Kami welcomers located in or near each areas capital city (Pyr, Yrkanis, Fairhaven, and Zora). The tasks are low level tasks so the goo can be found in low level areas. To find it you do the same as any other mat, prospect then extract from the source.
2) Is my character going to tolerate working along side Karavan followers, Matis, and any others who I normally dislike?
Well my character does what the Kami ask of him. So if the Kami ask that he work beside the Karavan, that is what he would do. The following is a rough draft for the background for this event.
In the lives of most Homin there are two universal enemies, the Kitin and the Goo. Recently the Kitin have been more active that and that has caused most homins to forget that the goo needs to be taken care of. Goo specialists from each of the four races have reported to their leaders that over the past few month due to the lack of attention, the goo is once again on the rise. As a result the leaders of all four races and representives from the Kami and the Karavan met in person. During this meeting it was agreed that the only way to reduce the amount of goo would be to have all willing homins spend time collecting and destroying any goo traces they might find. As such it has been formally annouced that on (date and time) the leaders of each race, the Kami, and the Karavan request that any available homin spend time collecting any goo traces they might find.
Kami Lord (as relayed by a Kami Adapt):
Beloved Kami friends. The cancer of Atys is at an all time high. While our dislike for the Karavan and those who support them is strong, our purpose is to protect Atys. This is why on (date and time) you must work along side those who you normally would not. Do not turn your backs to them, do not trust them, but work along side them for the sake of Atys!
Karavan Commander:
Followers of Jena! The Kitin problem has caused and even larger problem, the substance you call goo is once again on the rise. If not dealt with it will lessen the amount of resources available. As we must have a steady supply of recources to offer to Jena and to prepare for her return, the Goo must be dealt with. Followers there are times when one must put aside their differences to accomplish a goal. (Date and Time) we ask that you work along side those that worship the devil beings to help get the goo problem back under control. Our top priority is to prepare for the return of Jena. Only Jena will rid the planet of the wretched Kami. If working along side the beasts means a quicker return for her, then we must work along side them!
