When you get to mainland there is many helpfull players that will help you and give advice if you are polite and have little patience as people can be in middle of combat or doing who know what. but at last i if im crafting harvesting all time reply on all questions around.

Other note Guides are not payed staff they are people players like us that wish to help and spend some time doing checks on tickets.

And as starting game you can go on web and check some og great guides people write and many are posted even on this forum if you look at bottom of list.
Silv,

Sorry, but my point still stands, and I'm actually not a newbie myself. The learning curve on the game is ridiculous. Paid staff does very little to do anything to help it and seem more interested in passing the buck than helping. And I for one am going to write a newbie guide, since Nevrax doesn't seem to care. :)

Several games have newbie channels monitored by guide/GM types. This should be one of them.

In my relative few hours so far:

1. More optional "hand-holding" things for new players. And I don't mean that in a demeaning way... I'm one of those new players and could use a little direction in this game so far.

Ryzom is looking to be one of the most detailed and "deepest" MMO's I've tried yet. While that can be a Good Thing in the long run, it's kinda disheartening to start out and find that, beyond the initial "Quick Start" in the manual (if you evenr ead that), new players have no clue what to do, where to go, who to talk to, etc.

I've found that in a MMORPG, it is *so* critical to get new players off to a solid start and immediately give them purpose to keep going. This is usually in the form of story/world/lore building quests and missions. Players start out completely new to the interface, the world, the mechanics, the various game systems.. any number of things... They're basically lost. The best way to get them right into the gameplay is to provide them quests and goals that require them to learn and utilize those core gameplay elements. They can expand and learn the rest from there, but there must be that foundation established *very* early in the new player's experience, I think.

This really needs to be addressed.

2. Some way to better streamline the interface. I am, personally, a big fan of a minimalist interface.. only need to have on the screen what I need to play at any given time.. My stat bars, my macro/quick-key bars, a compass and a chat bar across the bottom. Simple. Other windows can be easily opened/closed with a shortcut key.

I know Ryzom has this.. but it seems that only certain windows can be opened/closed. All windows should be toggle-able.

3 Music! Ambient sounds... the game feels so *dead* right now with no kind of background sound to bring it alive. If you don't want music, necessarily, fine, add in more outdoorsy/nature sounds... distant cries of animals, the chirp and chatter of nearby insects.. perhaps muffled, intelligible chatter among townfolks while around villages (there's enough NPCs scattered about).

The game *looks* gorgeous and oozes of atmosphere. My sincere "hats off" to the designers and graphics artists.. now the sound needs to be caught up.

Annnnd.. for now that's all I can think of...

Looking forward to seeing this game mature more.. I just hope WoW and EQ2 don't leave its servers barren. I didn't see too many people playing so far tonight... which tells me that the game didn't have the biggest launch. Let's hope it catches on.

Anyway.. my two cents.

Travelling

Bounty Beaches Tryker

Having braved the treks from Fyros to Mattis & Zoari. The Mattis trip taking us just under a day. Our little team decided to try for Tryker from Zoari the trip through the roots was by and large uneventful.

However Bounty Beaches is a nightmare. There seems to be way to many carnivores and aggro mobs. Kinchers, Kipestas,Torbaks, Cutes, Zerx which makes traversing this part of the world to all intents and purposes impossible.

When standing in a reasonably safe spot and a kipee comes up and stands above you thats all you can see kipee leg or back they block your view.

If the density of the mobs could be reduced so instead of 20 Torbaks blocking the path there were 10 it would still make it hard to cross. It may even help reduce the lag in this area. In one spot I counted at least 50 cutes.
surrounded by zerx, kinchers and torbaks.

Also the carnivores are in very close proximity to the herbivores so even if you can get to a safe spot the chances are you'll be spotted. They also do not appear to aggro each other.

We were there for the day and got so fustrated that we gave up.

If your Tryker you seem to be imprisoned until you are high lvl which is a shame the world you get to know while learning this game is very limited. By the time you leave Tryker the other region chrs will have progressed without you and not benefitted from your expertise.

Paccea greatly travelled Fyros.

Actually I just wanted to give positive feedback, with just one really really major reservation.

I am new to the world, not been in beta, and have been a subscriber on all the majoy MMROPG around (EQ AO AC EVE DAOC COH etc etc etc). But Ryzom has intrigued me from the start (three days ago) because I think you have got a lot right and are close enough to the ground to make the right changes to tighten up loose ends.

I had grown game wary and disillusioned about player treatment and I still have faith in Ryzom that you will not develope a cavalier SOE attitude, and the game has an intriguing but not overcomplicated skill system. Nice customisation for the player ... which, although I am new... encourages me to think that the high end game will offer promise ie it will make a stayer of me.

But ... I cannot cope with the rubberbanding lag. It does not irritate me, I am accustomed to some lag in worlds, providing it is a rare even. Today and yesterday were awful and the really bad thing is it gives me motion sickness which means I cannot stay online because I genuinely start to feel ill.

Fix the lag so I can continue to play please!

I have now managed to play for two hours and for the most part i find the game is really good.

Graphics are great. The animals look weord and alien and the enviroment certainly gives you the not being on earth feeling.
Only thing i could think of is that their was an potion (might be havent checked yet) of not having your character fade when u get close to them id like to be able to take close up screenshots of her.
Sound is really good lots of nice effects and i look forward to hearing th music when its implemented.
One thing i did notice was that npc addressed my character as him/he when she is a female character.

I like the interface for the most part need to get used to having to click the text box before typing a message or mess up the interface. It would be nice to just set up the interface u way u want it and it can be toggled to remain on even if u press the key to toggle it on/off.

Apart from that the rest of the game is how id hope a mmorpg should be and i am impressed with what the developers have done and look forward to playing more of the game.

I love the game so far, there are two things i find quite annoying though:

The descriptions of actions and stanzas are often very bad, this has to improve.

I would like to have some way of separating my personal equipment from the general inventory pool. I've sold my own armour when working on crafting more than once and it's very tedious having to check the stats of 20 similar items in order to find out wich is the one i'm usually wearing.

Maybe it's time to introduce containers?

Edit: Oh, i forgot one thing...the animation for Zorai fighting with a spear is a slashing/swinging animation. Shouldn't it be piercing? :)

I've been a Ryzom fan/player since the first open beta. So far I still love the game...the only thing that has always bother me is the inconsistency in posting information on bugs and futures updates. Sometimes we get a nice big list, almost daily and other times we have weeks without a decent update and it's right during that period that the community experiences the most problems...Is that a coincidence or what?!?

If the community was able to get a weekly big list of bugs, problems and future updates then I'm pretty sure that we would get less dumb questions and comments about Ryzom's problems. On atys.ryzom.com we have all the nice menu links but all are empty! Need a web master/developer contact me then! :D

Most of the issues I have with the game itself are being addressed in the next two patches so I won't dwell on them.

The game looks very enjoyable and sufficiently different to offer a break from the standard MMORPGs out there. This is only based upon an initial impression and I'll get a better idea once I've played a bit more.

Main problem at the moment is the awful lag and random disconects which actually make the game unplayable (Hence the fact that I only have an initial impression). However, this happens with most new games so providing they fix this within the next week or two this shouldn't be a problem.
