Execute the Ryzom Configuration Tool and there somewhere on the bottom activate: "slow Processor down" or something like that...
It gets too hot because the programming of this game stresses the CPU and faster P4 just kick it when temperature rises

top reason for game crashes: cheap ram
i have two computers, one laptop with 512 MB ram made by toshiba, the same company that made this laptop, zero probs, and i have a desktop with 2 infinineon 3rd 512 mb sticks, clockable to 400. when i try and run the game with that, i get resets of the whole comp every 10 minutes, while hl2 runs fine, clocking them down to 266 solved all my problems. and btw. just to be sure i took the desktop over to the comp shop i was working at and plugged in two genuine infineons -> no probs, sadly i don't have the money <_<

if it truely is heat causing your problem, go spend 10-20$ and buy a PCI slot fan cooler. Takes all of 5 minutes to install, most of that time being getting the computer out where you can reach the screws on the back, and plugging everything back in.

I doubt it is the CPU usage that causes the problem, as I have been running UD (United Devices, distributed research, currently targeted at the cancer research), for months which uses 100% cpu cycles 24/7.

I have not been running it lately though so it is not it interfering either. But it means my CPU has been put to the test, but anyway im up for testing most, so I try it if the new GFX does not fix the problem.

Just an update on my own system. For the first few months of playing Ryzom I had a monitor that could only do 1024x768 res. Lately I've been working, so I haven't been in the game much. I bought a new monitor just before I got my new job, and today I realised that I've only been getting crashes since I changed from 1024x768 res to 1280x1024 res. I'm about to test the theory. I will update once I have had a chance to run it for a while in the lower res.

Try following: If you have your one GB ram in two bars of 512 take one out and play. if Ryzom Crashes, take the other one out and play with the first.
I know it is bad if it works then - but it sounds to me as if you have a ram problem there. But only a specialist with diagnostic tools could work this out -

Good luck

Unless you have dedicated RAM test equipment, memtest86 is one of the really good software tools out there, and it is free. :D

Try changing the video card just to be sure, even if u have to borrow a lower grade card for test. BSOD from XP is extremly likely to be due to hardware failure, or buggy drivers although it seems you have exhausted all software/driver issue possibilities. Ryzom is fine with Ge-Force cards, although there were a batch of buggy ti cards went out some time ago, tis possible this could be the cause of ur problem and is definitley worth investigating

I got more frequent crashes and tried to check system stats for clues, to no avail. Then by luck I noticed that my graphic card was extremely hot as I was fiddling with some cables at the back.
I installed a fan on the side sucking air into the chassis and emptied the two PCI slots closest to the AGP. Now Ryzom has been running without a glitch for over a week, Graphic card: Radeon 9800 Pro
