For those of you that still thinks SoR is a showcase for the NeL engine, and still haven'ts seen the concept arts section on the site yet.

You can tell that a lot of thoughts went into the planning of the SoR universe, just from the concept arts.
True, SoR might as well be a showcase for the NeL engine, but it's not the only purpose. Nevrax really plan this universe out, down to the Fyros axe.

Not only that but they would of never gone through the cost of setting up 4 servers with one being outside of Europe. They could of easily showcased their product with one or two servers in France.vinnyq wrote:For those of you that still thinks SoR is a showcase for the NeL engine, and still haven'ts seen the concept arts section on the site yet.

Re: Concept Arts
Uh, its a concept art for a high quality 2handed Zorai sword? Its got some detail of the writing too

Re: Concept Arts
If you look at the properties of each image when you view the full sized copy, you'll note that most are dated, and use abbreviations to note which race the art is meant for.

And some wise words from a wise man.

Re: Concept Arts
At work here are TWO different concepts, first group is the dedicated Dev, who may or may NOT know the TRUE intentions of the second group....The corporation. The Corp. MAY have intentions of Ryzom being a showcase for the game engine, the game paying for the engine's creation is just cake. And in ALL actuality, if the game ever takes off fully in America...the second group, the corp. would be even happier than if it fails. it would be a cake and eat it situation then.

Re: Concept Arts
Unless they were aiming at American gaming industry as well as Euro industry, then they would have done JUST as they did...Set up a server in NA...set up the free trial and let the GAME pitch the engine FOR you.

Re: Concept Arts
Those pitures are way old pre 1 open and before some of the team in Nevrax.
http://www.mekensleep.com/about/
Look at the department they worked.
We had some nice dev chats at the start of ryzom, telling us what to expect.
Those are of course delete now.
Some one had a big visions on how ryzom should be.
The only 2 thing i have seen of those they was talking about and its the raid/invasion and of couse the old mounts.
As it clearly seems they have major problems to add new things to the game.
and still have problems with the balence of the game.
So don't take what consept art to serius as it has't changed in a year or so.

Yeah unfortunately it seems that some of the people that "we" would most like to be in charge of SoR left Nevrax before it was released :'(Mekensleep Website wrote:Olivier Lejade - Founder & President
Prior to founding Mekensleep, Mr Lejade was the co-founder and CEO of Nevrax, the company that pioneered the use of Free Software in massively multiplayer online gaming. While there, he found himself confronted head-on with the difficulties of pushing a new model - that of an independent, Free Software-based online entertainment service provider - through antiquated structures. Ultimately, he decided to transfer his vision to a leaner, faster and more modular company.
Philippe Nouhra - Project Manager
After leading the game design team on Ryzom - Nevrax's first Persistent World - Mr Nouhra is now in charge of Mekensleep's development team.
Re: Concept Arts
I do see that a lot of the concept arts (i.e. all the mobs and city planning) were carried into the game and implemented as planned, and the details and thoughts going into the plannings were pretty amazing to me.
The result that is the game right now, albeit a bit lacking content wise, has come a long way and a lot of work has been put into it and a lot of the things were thought and flesh out and implemented to completion. Imagine the amount of work to get all the models, the landscape, the maps, the fight engine, the crafting engine, the digging engine, etc working.
A lot of us are just jaded because we have seen much of the game, because we got use to the universe of SoR and start neglecting all the details in it. I still remember the awe I experienced running with the group from Pyr to Thesos and crossing those wide expand bridges, but now I hardly glanced at the landscape anymore. But truly, if you take step back, what we have here is pretty amazing already. The only mistake that the Nevrax made, as far as I am concern, was releasing the game too early. Bad MOVE investors!
A year from now, I am thinking this game is going to blow a lot of other games out of the water.
So when I say, give it time, this game can only improved from here, I am not just saying that because of altruism.
