Cerest: Bug Reporting

Post by kierstad »

Other than submitting a bug report in game, what other recommended avenues should we take? I've run into a few that I have reported in game, but think they should also be shared with the community.

Yes, I understand there was a Beta and all, but bugs do still happen :D

-Edit-
Was just wondering if we should be posting them here as well as /bug reporting?

Any response? :P
Ideally it would be nice to have a central spot where the community can see a list of known bugs so that we know what everyone else has run into, and what the dev team is aware of. It helps to lessen the clutter of redundant reports in game.

Sorry I had yesterday off :) You shouldn't post suspected bugs here. You submitting your bug report is the best way to let us know that it's out there. If the bug becomes a problem and many people start having issues with it, I'll generally let you all know what's happening with the fix for it. Thanks for asking though instead of just posting.

As to having some sort of database where there are lists of known bugs? Hmm, don't know if that's feasible at this point in time, but it's worth bringing up with the powers that be :)

Plus as you see already, folks dont even look at the first topic and will repost the same question in a new thread.

It's a good idea, but the same folks that would use it properly are the ones that probably already know about it like you. The uninformed, sadly, are that way for a reason... they don't look for stuff...

Well let's be a little more fair. Some people don't really know how to look for answers. Not everyone playing SOR is an accomplished gamer, so I can see the validity of question. Like I stated above, I'll see what they say about a DB of known bugs.

I work in the software industry, so I guess mayhaps I have a little different view on this. It is far easier for me to search a forum that contains known bugs (bugzilla/bugtraq anyone?) to see if the problem I'm seeing has been encountered or not. I guess from my background I would view this as a positive thing, because one, it would make it easier for people to access a known list of problems that ARE being looked at, and enable them to determine whether or not what they're experiencing really is a bug or something else.

Typically, casual gamers either a) ignore bugs because they just assume someone has already reported it, or b) redundantly submit bugs that are already known and being looked at by the dev team. Why do they tend to do the latter? Because there isn't a centralized location for them to learn about known problems with the software, so they aren't aware that it's already being looked at.

It's merely a suggestion, not a demand. A suggestion that might just make it a little easier for the dev team to keep track of things, and also easier for whatever poor sole has to sift through all the /bug submittals. I guess it comes down to a question of efficiency. Do you really want your CSRs spending 1-3 hours of their scheduled time making quick responses to multiple reports on the same /bug? Or would you rather have some method in place that makes it easier?

Just a thought.

Actually having a forum for posting bugs would hamper the efficiency of the CSRs because not only would they have to view all of the in game bug reports they'd also have to deal with a forum stating the same things that they just resolved in our ticket system.

Having a list of known bugs could be helpful. Remember, there are some people playing this game that have never played MMOGs before and we have to think of them as well as our more seasoned customers.

As stated above I will suggest that there be some sort of database with known bugs as this could help all of our customers. :)

Thanks guys,

Thanks. Anything that would make it easier for everyone involved is always a good thing. Forum just happened to be one of the first things that popped into my head. It's not too difficult to write simple utilities to autopost known bugs though :P
