Reasently I got our guild together and pacted a team with our best players.
All but two were 150+ players. We went out to kill plodeketh. Thats what we went out to do. We cast and fought and fought and cast but after about 5 or 10 minutes the boss wasn't even close to dead. It was regenerating faster than we could inflict damage. We called out a retreat and basicliy just left with no dp.
Now this is my question. What is the point to haveing a boss or bosses like this when we know the best reward youll get is a few supreme mats?
Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
I don't know for sure, I "believe" the goo infected bosses will be missions you'll get for an Outpost or similar... Some of them require "activation" and others just need to be be dealt with along with their guardians. The reward "appears" to be higher than the meager mat drops given, but I am only guessing based on the info I have gathered.jackmor wrote:Reasently I got our guild together and pacted a team with our best players.

I have been gathering some boss mob info, though the activation and mat drops stuff we keep in guild currently. They are making major changes to bosses now and to prevent having the wrong names I am holding the new mobs added a bit longer.

We once killed Timpon because it was eyeballing us.

Killing a boss once just to say you've done it can be fun. But there really aren't any rewards for some of these bosses that take 30 minutes to kill. I hope DT is right and they're mission-related.
However, the named bosses that drop 10 excellent mats are very worthwhile.

Was out and wandering the countryside of Zorai with my fellow pt members when we stumbled across some Rattled Slaveni. We decided to attack it for giggles... after a minute of hacking away on that thing we stopped giggling. It took 3 of us roughly 10 minutes, all using 150+ jobs to kill this thing and we all died repeatedly
Afterwards we looked around and found the coolest looking plant boss.
Boss mob
As for them.... I think they'd drop some uber mats or something if they wern't bugged

Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
Why do we do it? Why do some people decide to climb mountains? Because it's there and represents a great challenge and a break from the normal routine of pulling gnoofs or whatever you like to hunt. There may be no concrete reward other than 10 supreme mats and it may have taken you half an hour, but hey where else are you going to get those supreme creature mats which your crafters need to blend with supreme harvested mats to make the best items in the game?
Another good reason is to catalogue the fauna of Atys. The bosses are unique in appearance and sometimes requires certain actions to activate them. Scouring the land for unique creatures and marking their locations is fun, even if you cant handle them.
The thing about fighting bosses is that you need some insane damage dealing capacity, otherwise it will regenerate faster than you can harm it. This means a full party (maybe even 2 full parties) with several archmages/masters of pain and the healers to keep them casting destruction nonstop.
So get out there and poke at Plodeketh's stubborn hide again Jackmor, enlist the aid of another guild or whatever, and bring home some supreme ploderos hides to decorate your apartment with. You will see the light of boss hunting eventually

Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
A group from our guild went out last night a on a boss hunt. We were ranging in levels from 70 def (me) to Masters of Life and Pain at the top end. We killed 5 different bosses and got a reasonable number of supreme mats from each (about 16 to 20 each boss), but more importantly we had a real blast doing it. We plan to do this on a semi-regular basis and eventually will use those mats to make some tasty kit for guild members.
The bosses were all 200+ in level, and working out the strategy to deal with each different one was half the fun. We all died multiple times but due to the diligence of the healers and the general teamwork we all finished up with little or no DP by the end of the evening.

Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
Named bosses are not a problem they are reletively easy to kill and drop multple hq mats. Named bosses can be killed repeatedly like any other mob respawn. Im realy talking about bosses with minions. When they are killed you might get mats or you might not and they dont come back for rl days.
Montain climbing is nice but you realy should be able to get to the top and have a veiw when you get there.

Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
I agree with DT, something is up with the goo boss mobs. I've seen probably 6 or so new goo mobs recently and none of them have names yet. I know a couple of them are new for sure, because they are in areas I've been visiting for months now.
Re: Bosses why do we kill them. And how?
I may be wrong on this, and it is defintiely a generalization, but there seem to be 3 "classes" of named mobs.
1. The "Death" or "Slayer" types. These drop choice materials, I believe at the uppermost level of the zone. Death Clopper in Liberty Lake drops Choice q50 mats, for example.
2. The named mobs. Slucer or Hissertoo for example. These drop excellent mats at a level 10 above the zone.
3. The "Goo Infected" boss mobs such as kincherkoo, or Kipeskan (is Kipeskan gone or moved?) These have escorts, and seem to dro pSupreme mats 20 above the zone.
I am not sure how conisistent this is, but the majority of the "named" I have been in on killing seem to follow these general rules.
