Magic Attacks Automatically?

Post by humble48 »

When working as a fighter, if you choose an action like default swing or some other form of attack, your character keeps doing it until you change up the action.

However, for a magic person, you have to keep hitting the number key for the particular action to keep casting. Is there a way to make this automatic or to set up a macro?

Thanks.

*laugh* oi vey. I've done both now, here's the thing.

Magic can be interrupted. So, for example you want to auto-acid, but you want to throw a stun/fear/etc you'd have to press a button, right?

So let's say you're out soloing, you are auto-acid on your current target and you get an add that you NEED to root/stun or stop in some way. You'd need to select the second target... but you're on auto-acid so you'd immediately finish your current acid spell and then you could quickly stun or whatever. Well, Target A inturrupts the spell... and since you are on auto-acid, you will IMMEDIATELY began shooting acid again, and you would need to hit your other spell and wait for the acid to finish.

This is what an auto-attack magic system would be like. In my opinion, it's set up fine as it is, and unless there are dramatic changes to the magic system as a whole, an auto-attack magic would serve more agitation than it fixes anything.

Well...here's what I thought the best way would be:

Basically, if you have a creature targeted, it should continue to attack using the last item used unless the type of magic did really warrant it. For example, doing acid or ice magic on the same target and hitting the keys repeatingly is just dumb. I agree, that Fear should probably only fired once, but acid and ice are most likely going to be continually fired.

If two or more creatures exists, the auto attack should not transfer over to the other character, but simply just stop and you would have to choose what ever you were going to do with them.

I would not want to macro it. But, simple magic shots should be auto-firing just like a fighter.

Here's the simple way to put it:

Pretend that Acid is key "3" and Fear is key "7". You are fighting a creature that needs about 4 acids to kills. In the process you want to send him off in fear once.

Without an auto-fire:
3 , 3 , 7 , 3, 3

With auto-fire:
3 (goes twice automatically), 7 (you interupted the auto and fear gets pulled off), 3 (goes autotically)

Easy example and you can see how much more less systematic. Now imagine you are fighting something that 20 times larger! It starts too look like this:

3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 3, 3, 7, 3, 3, 3, 7, 3

See how stupid this becomes?
