New Interview From Nevrax

Post by raynes »

This was just published on a french ryzom site. I ran it through babblefish so the translation is going to be poor, but you should still get the general idea.

"Ryzom at dawn 2005

After four months of existence, the universe of The Saga of Ryzom grew rich considerably. David Cohen, founder and leading director of Nevrax, Daniel Miller, technical director and Guillaume Puzin, assistant of production, take stock and give us some prospects on the nearest evolution for the play. Cross interview of the three men best informed of what is woven in the slides of SoR.

What holds the year 2005 ?

DM : It will bring especially more objectives in the play. There will be a general enrichment through the single contents which become available, the information which appears through the encyclopaedia and through events which will be held during the year. There will be more boss, more missions, the arrival of the outposts, more things to be made with rewards behind. At the same time, there will be a work on the existing systems of play and some really key systems to round them, to polish them and make so that they go in all their aspects well and that even the the least used elements take their place and their importance.

On which building sites do work you in this moment ?

DM : The principal open building sites in this moment are the encyclopaedia which will be packed progressively and the outposts, which are the next gross feature of the play and which will offer a true challenge to the guilds. Thereafter, we consider several other features but without set of priorities : the descent (marriage), of new trades (adjuster, hairdresser, tattoer, alchemist...) which will open new branches in more of four the basic current ones.

How to bore the mysteries of Atys in-game ?

DM : Thanks to the encyclopaedia. The encyclopaedia contains a mass of various types of information. There is practical or simple information on creatures, tribes, or on elements of the play on which one inevitably does not have all the information which exists today. There is also in the encyclopaedia of the topics which give infos much deeper on the history, from which come the people and what occurred in the past or on what the future promises.

GP : Later also undoubtedly by events. To summarize, one can say that the encyclopaedia is used to rediscover the past and that event it influence the future.

Event second week of January lasted one week. Which assessment do you draw some and hope you to renew this experiment ?

DM : The positive aspect of this event, it is that it integrated all the forms of trades. One will reintroduce it in the future because that seemed to like.

The events will become more regular. There will be still stages to cross, small events per moments and of the large events in the future. It is clear that event it of Christmas reflects the work in progress to be able to make events of this scale in a regular way and to assemble more interesting situations in the generic unfolding of Ryzom.

Will these events follow a logic compared to the history?

DM : Of course. There is dejà a little that in this event. The invasion kitin is the by-effect from what occurred in event preceding. Thus on the level of the history behind, there is a continuity.

Can one travel by the train moving ? Will the player be lost if it did not take part in the precedents events ?

DM : Up to now, that was never the case, one will always try to make the events comprehensible and accessible to everyone, even with new come in Ryzom which did not follow the events until there. With regard to the events, our objective is to make the different ones according to waiters'.

Kamis and Karavan take more and more importance in the history. How that will it be reflected in the play ?

GP : Especially in the events and on the level of the fame. Ca will be solved in PvP between the guilds. One will put new actions in-game which will make it possible to differentiate both well, there will be perhaps special actions Kami/Karavan. One will be able to make Kami/Karavan territories, of the Kami/Karavan boss. They are not inevitably forecasts on the long term but at best for the second part of the year. Progressively one will try to reveal more and more this opposition.

DM : One already sees it in the events. There already was of it several which was Kami vs Karavan. One will see it with relatively massive situations of PvP. That will give great battles at the time of the events. One will also see it in the future on the level of the new territories which the players will be able to reach and for some of them, there are all the chances so that if there is not good the fame or the good faction, one cannot téléporter towards a ground, to evolve/move there or remain there.

Up to what point can the players really influence the course of the events ?

DM : Even if if basic the races are rather allied in Karavan or in Kamis, which one again sees in event today, the players has the choice to be directed in a different way. They can turn over their fame completely. They will always have a small impact which comes from their people but if they form part of a guild which has a very different fame or if the player works itself to turn over his fame, the part imposed by their people becomes unimportant, and that makes it possible to the players really to become what they want to become.

Cd. : There is not large thing of not solidified. What is on our side of the barrier, they are the actions of NPC, Kamis, the political chiefs, of Karavan, who have their plans, their objectives, and which will do everything to arrive there. Now, the variable which is brought by the players can make that a plan will succeed, the other not, and of the blow, it is them which will write the true history and not just the intention.

Does once the maximum level reached, which challenge remain for the players ?

GP : The player is not limited to a branch, Ryzom allows to evolve/move on several branches, therefore it can always assemble another of them. Once that one reached the maximum level in a branch, the player can remake it as many once as he wants to continue to gain skills points.

DM : There is of the boss which starts with appparaître in the play and which is hard and that a player who reaches the maximum level cannot be made all alone. There are challenges of this type there which are challenges of groups, guilds and not of individuals. There are similar challenges been dependent on the outposts. And of the individual challenges for the players who want to supplement the encyclopaedia which is immense if one wants to entirely supplement it.

GP : Who is infinite makes some, since one will enrich it all along the play. It is a true system of parallel progression which does not have a limit of level.

You spoke about Kami/Karavan territories. New territories are thus envisaged ? Where will they be ?

Cd. : On canopée, but also on the bark and in the Premiums Roots. There is a logic of expansion on all the layers of Atys. Today, the homins are on a small zone of Atys, there are other branches of each faction which lives on other places of planet but today technologies of teleport or explorations of the homins are not sufficient to reach them, but one day that will be it.

Will there be new competences, new actions... ?

GP : One already envisaged some and afterwards, all is possible. It is currently the interest of the system, it is that there is no limit with competences of the players.

DM : Frankly all is possible. One is not limited.

I'm striving to identify something I did not know....I was afraid the "interview" announced 2 weeks ago in the french forums was going to be like this. I just hope the questions and answers are better

-- thanks for the post Raynes.

Looking through the babelfish, it looks vaguely similar to the mmhell(?) interview from the other day. Let us hope that the questions from the dev's thing, that Cerest and the rest of the GM types have been pimping lately, will be of more substance.

To vaguely summerize:

In 2005 Nervax plans on introducing content in the game that matches that of the Box of which the players have already purchased.

We do this in an effort to round off the game and make it what it is supposed to have been on the day of the release.

It is of our utmost hope, that in the near future, we can deliver on what we had hoped to deliver on before the game went live.

Once these are done, we will then work dilligently on trying to stablize the system because we are painfully aware of how unstable the game becomes after every patch, and were working dilligently on avoiding these issues in the future.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

Right, so once the game is running like the box, they're going to give us a free amt of free play = to the amount of time +6 months (interest) for being their 'financial backers'?

Or should I just sue for false advertising?

Guild Infinity, blue monkey scapegoat caster of spells making materials appear in guild hall while riding mektoubs to get things out of the ground so that they may be placed in there so people can level crafting and not making much money so always poor unless I go do things on my own but that's boring so I don't because I'd rather take brithlem's money because he has access to the guild hall and has lots of money so it...

Those 'answers' are the most laid back I've ever heard... even bordering on the surreal.

"Everything is possible..." and someday, sometime, somehow; perhaps even maybe, we will do something. There's just absolutely no sense of any urgency. If this was my game ( and I wish it was ), I'd be up 20 hours a day adding cool new bits.

I guess it's just like those pictures of the developers someone posted earlier... there's only 5 of them ;) . I'm a guru in several programming langauges, heck I've even downloaded and compiled the NEL; if some volunteer hobby hours by some of the community will help to move things along maybe they should explore that! :) ... sigh ...
