This soft tune may work:

Post by turilli »

Hi, this is according WinXP SP2
start up your PC.
open the task manager and kill the following processes:
wdfmgr.exe
alg.exe
svchost.exe with the largest amount of memoryuse - a system one.
mdm.exe
all Antivirus programs
realsched.exe if you have real player
quicktime tasks

clear your autostart folder
switch off ALL of the autoupdate services - its enough to do windows update manual once a month
specially mdm (machine debug manager)
and wdfmgr will cause ryzom to crash - i dont know why, but its a fact ;)

Try - but on some systems it will have no effect ;(

Mine got boostet!!

Athlon 2200+@2600+
Gfx 5600XT@5700
768MB Ram 333
Win XP SP2

um... no WDFMGR will not make your Ryzom crash.
My Ryzom has crashed maybe twice in the past 6 months and I have all of the stuff that you say to turn off running. I find that the crashes are due to all of the sounds happening in Tryker. I used to have sound crashes all of the time until I disabled EAX, Software sound and turned tracks down to 16.

You should be very careful to tell people to switch off essential system services unless you know exactly what they do.

ALG.EXE is needed if you are using XP's firewall or are sharing files/printers in a local network
WDFMGR.EXE is used if you use MP3 devices like a Rio with Media Player 10
SVCHOST.EXE is used for a ton of things and could really kill your system if you switch off the wrong instance of it
Switching off antivirus really isn't recommened these days unless you know your firewall is absolutely foolproof and is blocking all attacks

I am currently running Ryzom on 2 systems and neither has any performance issues - one is a 2GHz laptop with 768 MB

Your performance problem may be due to the fact that you appear to be overclocking your CPU

killing an svchost.exe is like the fastest way i know to get your comp to run unstable, i really suggest you people try doing some reading here: http://www.blackviper.com
also turning off the automatic update is simply stupid and like an invitation to exploits and trojans in general, simply set it to some ungodly time like 0500 and you're fine to go(ofc your comp should be running at that time too)
killing wdfmgr, explorer, realsched and quicktime tasks is secure, but most people shouldn't touch the rest if they don't know 100% what they are doing. shutting down firewall and antivirus is ok as long as your windows is fully patched(sp2 is not necessary for having a fully patched windows)
