release:
-no guild wars
-no guild missions
-guild names/titles not displaying in-scene
-no mounts
-hawkers not working
-no REAL interesting ranged fight
-no music
-no encyclopaedia
-no special rites from sages/captains/karavan/kami to get the so-called cubes of amber

I was *extremely* disapointed that there weren't guild missions nor mounts yet, given that they were promised for the release.
Now, I know that ryzom was already pushed back, and that it has great potential and that the whole team is working hard on making it the best MMO.
But, I want you guys to know that I WAS disappointed, I expected at least the guild missions to be in, since they're a game maker/killer

I know you're working hard on the game, and I hope that not too many customers will be taken away by the fact that the game was almost still BETA when released ; I'll continue to support ryzom and wait patiently for the content additions

Yes I agree Dam, imo it was released too early, but Its still very very good.

Also I guess they decided it was good enough for it to be worth paying for, and it is imo :)

turn them on.... It's an option.
-no mounts
patch2...
-hawkers not working
they buy stuff
-no REAL interesting ranged fight
ranged is kinda broken... it's a bit obvious that it's going to get straightened out though, especially since the only real serious massive problems it has are the ammo cost/shot and ammo pattern costs.
-"give item" missions broken
uhh.. works for me? :confused:

It's got to be said:

From a performance/game-state point of view this is the best MMORPG release I have yet seen.

Every other mass game that has gone on release has had massive technical difficulties lasting usually 6 months to a year after release (server crashes, bugs, things incomplete, etc, etc).

AO was virtually unplayable for the first 6 months after release and only really started to get it's act together 1 year after releae. Likewise UO,DAOC, EQ, SWG, etc, etc. (and SWG is in an even bigger mess now than when it was released a year ago)

UK server has been up for 2 weeks - no unannounced server outage (in fact I think it's only been taken down twice for maintenance), no mass dupes/exploits (yet), no game-killing bugs.

Yes, some of the missions are bugged and a lot of content isn't there yet (but we do know when it's coming).

To say I "strongly disagree" with your premise would be something of an understatement :) .

The main problems SoR has had have been on the game distribution side, which I suspect were not in Nevrax's control.

In summation: SoR has had the most complete and smoothest release I have yet seen for a MMORPG.

(Big pat on the back to Nevrax)

If you don't believe me, then try playing SWG for a while - one of the biggest games on the market. 1 year after release half the professions are bugged/incomplete/not-yet-implimented, the in-game economy is screwed, combat doesn't work properly (is actually seriously screwed up), grouping is pointless and the developer's prime focus is on expansions and professions 75% of the player base has no interest in...........

Tetra:

Guild names => turn them on.... It's an option.
Reply: even when turned on, it doesnt work.

No mounts => patch2...
Reply: and then ? they were promised for the RELEASE

Hawkers => they buy stuff
Reply: they're supposed to SELL stuff too...

Ranged fight => ranged is kinda broken... it's a bit obvious that it's going to get straightened out though, especially since the only real serious massive problems it has are the ammo cost/shot and ammo pattern costs.
Reply: so, its still CRAP atm, at the time of release...

Give item missions broken => uhh.. works for me? :confused:
Reply: I was talking about BETA here

All MMORPGs are always released 'too early'. There is always contents to add.

But that's the player's point of view; on the economic side there's always the pressure of the release date, and the money that's put into the game, the factory plan etc...

How long does it take to 1) complete the code, 2) put it on a CD, 3) distribute the CD to retailers, etc... and avoid complete messups and legal issues with international deliveries, all that while banks/producers are on your back asking for a finished product?

This game is good; good release. It's relatively stable, there are no gamebreaking bugs that I know of, etc. The main problems seem to be the game distribution, where people have tons of problems getting their copies; and the powerplayers trying to reach the end of the game in week 1 :D

Seriously, the game has enough things to keep normal-casual players happy until they come up with the first patch; the game is economically viable and can take momentum. But sure there are people who want everything now, or possibly yesterday. You'll see them cry there's no high QL gear for them and how the game is messed up because there are not enough high level crafter soon... there are more important things to do for players and devs, the game will take off and get new things; it's not like we have nothing to do meanwhile. As long as it doesnt take 1 year to get more of the stuff promised a while ago.

I'm pretty sure it was always "or shortly after" through most/all of FBT and a good chunk of the open beta prior to FBT.
Hawkers => they buy stuff
Reply: they're supposed to SELL stuff too...
however since storebought stuff is junk who cares.
