Re: Acess Violation
I'm having the same problem. I wasn't getting any replies from anyone "in the know" until I finally talked to a GM in game. According to the GM it is an ATI problem, most common with the 7500 series. You have a 9800, right? My friend does too, and is having the same problem on a lesser level.
The people who fix the game are aware of the problem and I've been told they are working on it. Hopefully in time for the next patch, but not promised.
I'm not good at reading the error message you posted, are you using OpenGL or D3D?
I was having the massive crash after a few steps problem running on OpenGL. Switched over to D3D and haven't crashed since (for days now), but most of the words in my menus and chat boxes are missing. Sometimes I can shrink the boxes down and they reappear, but not always.
My friend, who is crashing also, is running D3D.
So, it looks like 7500s need to run D3D without menus and 9800s are crashing on D3D and apparently it's being looked into.
I was told by the GM to definately send those error messages in an email to technical-na@ryzom.com. I got an email back today asking me to also send them a file named DxDiag.txt that I created by going to the start menu, clicking 'run', typing in 'dxdiag', click 'ok', waiting for the program to finish it's thing, and then going to the 'display' and 'sound' tabs and running all the tests there and then clicking 'save all information'. The file it produces is the one they were looking for. DxDiag.txt Hopefully all this helps get if fixed faster because there's no way I can afford a different video card.
I will warn you, I wouldn't expect much in the way of help on this subject from much of anyone. I haven't gotten any until recently and I wouldn't call it much.

Re: Acess Violation
Locate the following exe file from inside your ryzom folder:
ryzom_recover.exe
It will open an MS-DOS window (and keep sure you allow its IP in your firewall) that will check your patched files for consistency and will re-download them.
Use this option and check if the problem is because of corrupted files too, appart from the known ATI 9600,9700,9800 bugs, which I had too since im the owner of an ATI card too, but this option lessened my problems a bit, and make sure you run the client in Direct3D mode.
I would advise all ATI players to redownload the newer patch files with this option after each new patch its applied untill they fix this ATI bug, and run the client in Direct3D mode. Just to make sure they did everythink they could from their side.

Re: Acess Violation
I have just done a fresh reformat and installation of Win XP and Ryzom in the last week. I ended up having to uninstall Ryzom and reinstall it a few times because each time it would have the crashing problems and I thought maybe a fresh install would help. It ran ryzom_recover many times. No change. I will give it one more shot tonight before I play, but I have no hopes.

Re: Acess Violation
You may have a memory error.
Are all your ram sticks the same size or manufacture?
Have you added or changed any memory recently?

Re: Acess Violation
I just started getting a similar error not sure of the numbers or exact text but and access violation just started after last patch - I am running a Nvidia FX 5200 and I am sure I don't have any mem problems!!!! Who can I contact? anyone know? Please help before I get upset and cancel account.
Re: Acess Violation
Zinian - I have the exact same vid card and have no problems.
I have been in Ryzom since Feb 2004 and have never had to force my ATI 9800 XT to use OpenGL for any reason.
Here is how to make it work flawlessly, and you have to do this exactly
install DX9.0c if you haven't done so (via Windows Update)
reboot
download latest Catalyst drivers from ATI.COM
remove older drivers via Control Panel - Add/Remove software
reboot
ignore found hardware messages
run new driver installer
reboot
Do these steps in this exact order and your crashes will go away.
