Firstly, I have been playing Ryzom since the 08.10.04 and there has been a number of changes some good some bad during this time. I usually play for at least 8 hours a day sometimes as much as 16 hours. My actual amount of time playing computer games can be gauged in years.
The world of Atys in graphical terms and the layout of the world is very good. The mobs from a distance look a bit strange but up close they look good and the way they move is also good. So I won't fault this part of the game.
The in-game support is also very good, the support team in general are quick to respond and are usually very helpful.
Some of the events usually seem to have some problems but personally I don't worry about that too much as they are temporary additions to the normal game-play.
Now for the not so good points and the reasons I have left.
The different areas are too level sensitive, some areas are not worth doing anything in anymore as there is no gain in doing anything in them. Harder areas are accessible but the easier areas may as well not be.
The game always had a large element of levelling but as you get higher it takes a lot of time to level (over a hour digging for example) which, is less like fun and more like work. And most of the time it's just levelling for the sake of levelling.
There is no real difference between the races or weapons of the same type except in what they look like. All races can do the same skills except for craft but then all crafted 2h swords (same quality) are the same as far as their statistics go. So eventually all races and characters will be come similar as far as what they can do.
Since the introduction of patch 2 I have noticed that guilds have in general become more insular. When in mixed teams these days it's sorry got to go my guild needs me. Most chat is now done in guild, teams or /tells. The region chat is hardly ever used accept by a few new people in Matis and the most common thing I have seen in region is 'res plz'.
Some people have asked would I come back, the answer is probably no. This is because I think it will take more than 6 months for Nevrax to improve things and I believe they have a policy of deleting accounts after they have not been active for 6 months. And I have no wish to start a new character with the time needed to develop them.
You may ask why did I post this here, mainly because it can be read by anyone and I am sure Nevrax will read it as well, they probably will not respond to it but I'm sure they will read it.
Well my account runs out on the 15th so I will look at the forums occassionally until then but I am now no longer playing in-game.
I will miss the world of Atys and some of it's characters but there is a time when you have to move on.

wont argue with you at all, you know the flaws of this game well and I admit some people will run out of patience before the game becomes what its supposed to be.
good luck in the future whatever you decide to play

The one standard reply no-one ever seems to make:
Can I have your stuff?
Never had the chance to meet you and as a game get boring for you, you move on to either a new char or a new game. That is the way it goes.
Grtz,

Grtz,
A new character would not improve game-play issues.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo Shadowblade
Of all the people I expected to stay, you were at the top of the list. This is a very sad day for me indeed, as we've chatted and foraged together on many occasions
I totally agree that guilds are becoming insular, and also stagnated to a degree, and that doesn't bode well for future relations on Atys.
I wish you the best of luck with whatever you go on to do, and hope that someday I will see and speak to you again.
Farewell Shadowblade, and take care....

Sad to see you leave shadow.
I tend to agree with you but I do love this game and the players: most of them as you always been yourself are truly nice, respectfull and helpful.
Wish you best of luck in the seek of the perfect game

Some stay some go some come, thats the way of all MMO's I have played so far. Everyone eventually gets tired of a game and moves on. Its always a matter of preferences and patience how long you will stay in the game.
As history teaches me the people returning to a game they played before are very rare.
Good luck in your next game, we might meet there again sooner or later.

Re: Some observations about Ryzom
I will be staying for quite a while more. Why is this? I am currently playing wow by the side just for getting the feel of it etc.
<personal, spontaneous feelings>
Ive ben playing 2 orc hunter chars in the WoW world now on NA and EU beta, NA to lvl 23 and the current to lvl 36. Now, when I play wow; I have two times now done the same quests rushed up to past 20. Now, Im kinda fed up on doing theese solo quests all the time, it doesnt even feel like a mmorpg if it weren for the occational pvpers that sneak around. wow is more like a small hosted LAN game for the low lvl quest parts. (almost feels like never winter nights etc) What however I guess will save it is the high end pvp game and raid groups.. But I doubt Ill be motivated to rush there a 3rd time in european retail to reach lvl 60. Yes, the quests are fun.. first week, then it feels like you are on an escalator doing those missions solo (except instance dungeons, where you need to team).
This is what will make me fed up with wow soon. And this is also why I will return to Ryzom, Ryzom doesnt have theese escalators, it is ofcourse two sides of the same coin. Some prefer quests that pulls you through the game to max lvl, some prefer the "open ends" like are provided in ryzom. In ryzom I feel its more up to us to make something cool and interesting, wich make me feel motivated more than stepping into some pre-arranged line you shall follow to max lvl. This can look like ryzoms "grind" vs. WoW´s questing. I guess thats a nice comparrison. I can only speak of what feelings I have for it and what I preferr. The freedom and "open-ness" of Ryzom is what keeps me here. Now of course I think the high lvl players from beta now are faced with terrible endurance tests for outposts and working rites.. when all is maxed there need to be something that activates you and make you stay I guess. (like pvp lands, outposts, extended guild features like more rooms to guild hall.....)
Features like this will come.. its a matter of time and how long the players can hold their breath.. Ive bought oxygen tanks
Anyway, just felt like venting some thoughts...
