Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

heh then there's ...

IMO (in my opinion)

and one many people don't use very often..

IMHO (in my *humble* opinion)

as for a few other two letter:

FU :D
Ta (a way of saying thanks, and bye, depending on there you live)

Can't forget the acronyms of in game locations such as AA, ToT, BB, US, etc. (Aeden Aqueous, Trench of Trials, Bounty Beaches, Undersprings, et cetera).

"I hi sir" It's the letter "I" and not the number "1" i believe.

Thanks to one of my officers, Squiddna, some time back, this has become our guild's salute to me. Anytime I say one of my rallying speeches or something, everyone does the emote "I hi sir!" (Alt+Shift+5) at the same time.

It's become just part of our way of doing things even if it was started as a mockery of the translations, it would be a shame to see "I hi sir" be taken away. :0)

I never personally feel it can be taken that way, because suggesting one is "honest" at the time indicates they are "dishonest" when they don't specify. :D

dazman76 wrote:The word blank is used to refer to the time between the cathode gun hitting the bottom of the display area, and returning to the top/start position. I'm not actually sure if the screen is blank during that time (i.e. no picture displayed at all), it's just that the gun isn't active. Maybe someone knows about that? :)

The screen has persitance, ie the dots keep glowing for a short period even after the gun stops hitting them, so the screen doesn't blank.. Otherwise the flicker would kill u eyes...

Actually it's your retina that has persistance. The screen does flicker quite a bit, if you don't look straight at the screen at 50hz, you can actually see that flicker.

I suspect that since I've been on their side I can bash them... seriously though -why address small features instead of gameplay affecting bugs?

Surely some fixes are required for larger ones although I fail to see how new animations would be involved in the chain of bug fixing.

jfoxp wrote:Man, lay off the devs. It's not like something like that takes an hour to code and impliment. If you think you can do better, please, by all means, try. But, until you've been on their side of things, don't bash them.

As for the emote... Remember that the developers are French. It may have made sense in French, and gotten screwed up in translation. For instance, in graphics options, VBL is v-synch. But, for the life of me, I have no clue what the letters VBL stand for, and how they mean v-synch. But it is v-synch, as confirmed by staff here. So, I just chalk it up to translation, myself.

It may be nothing more than the division of responsibility. The developer(s) in charge of graphic models and animations could very well have nothing to do with teleporters working or not working, for example. Therefore, they aren't the best person to track down and fix these.

It's often better to wait and let the developer whose focus is in the particular area to have time to fix something rather than pull a developer from an entirely different area of the application and have them try to figure it out and fix it.

aylwyne wrote:Your monitor draws the picture on the screen from top to bottom many many times per second. Without this synchronization, it's possible for the frame that is being drawn to change partway through the refresh of the monitor. So like the top half of the screen would be drawn with one frame of animation and the lower half of the screen with the next frame of animation.

VBL synchronization (v-sync) ensures that the frames of animation occur between refreshes of the monitor. So if the next frame is ready to be drawn, it will wait until the current monitor refresh is complete to start drawing it on the screen. This can cause a slowdown in the frame rate but will eliminate monitor refreshes that contain parts of two frames.

I know it's quite belated, but I'm just lazy and never remember to check the boards. Thanks for the explanation :)
