I have changed this post to a more general one that asks questions. I want to try to gain an understanding of how the general player population feels about certain things. My hope is to get enough information so that when events are planned people actually show an interest.
Please answer the questions below. I know that some players don't like me but in order to really get some good information, please don't answer the questions based upon me personally. For example if I ask the question "Why don't you like PVP?" don't answer "I don't like it becuase your a pushy annoying troll".
1) Do you like or dislike the general idea of PVP? Why?
2) Have you done any pvp? If not why? If you have what did you like and dislike about it?
3) Have you taken part in any player events (pvp and nonpvp)? If yes what ones and what did you like about it? If no, why not?
4) What sort of player events would capture your interest (pvp and nonpvp)?
5) If an event were held that combined roleplay and pvp, would you take part? If not, why not? What would get you to change your mind?
6) If an event where held where you were asked to attack something in game (npc or mob) in order to invoke a pvp responce, would you do it? If not, why not?
7) On the flip side if something were being attacked and you were called to defend it in a pvp situation, would you answer the call? If not why, why not?
8) If you answered #6 and # 7 differently, what is the reason you would take part in one over the other?
9) Would you take part in roleplay events and pvp roleplay events if your roleplay position was only valid at the events? In otherwords if you could join events as a Karavan or Kami supporter, then when it's over be considered just a player with no support for one side or the other, would you be more interested in pvp and roleplay events?
Please answer truthfully and with your own thoughts. As the purpose of this is to get an idea what people think, there is no right or wrong answer. Also please keep the arguements and debate out of this thread.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: How many Kami guilds and supporters would take part in a pvp event?
Sure. PvP would be better, but non is cool to.

Re: How many Kami guilds and supporters would take part in a pvp event?
I have to admit im one of those that hasnt worked out yet who I think is telling the truth, the kami or the karavan and so havent been levelling my fame in one in particular. So I guess like a lot of ppl are waiting to choose which side when more of the story comes out before aligning myself. But there are some who have fiercely decided whos side their on, post some screenies of the fight

Right now I am just trying to see if I can get enough Kami players to have an event against the karavan players.
Re: Players thoughts on PVP and player run events. (Questionnaire)
1) Do you like or dislike the general idea of PVP? Why?
Dislike - Hitting real people is not something I like to do.
2) Have you done any pvp? If not why? If you have what did you like and dislike about it?
PvP once or twice - mostly death taxi stuff and once as a test of skills. I just did not enjoy it and don't like the idea of enjoying hitting someone real.
3) Have you taken part in any player events (pvp and nonpvp)? If yes what ones and what did you like about it? If no, why not?
I've done several region to region trips - always as a healer. I like helping others out.
4) What sort of player events would capture your interest (pvp and nonpvp)?
Non PvP - like the races Synergy is having Feb 11th; I enjoy exploring and helping guildmates discover mats locations, MOB stats and other fact finding missions.
5) If an event were held that combined roleplay and pvp, would you take part? If not, why not? What would get you to change your mind?
I would not take part. I don't enjoy roleplaying and certainly not PvP. I would have to be forced to play that way - like if somebody were holding a gun to my youngest child's head in front of me.
6) If an event where held where you were asked to attack something in game (npc or mob) in order to invoke a pvp responce, would you do it? If not, why not?
You mean attack a herd of yelks a faction had declared as theirs and off limits to the opposing faction? Hell no. I don't want anybody mad at me!!
7) On the flip side if something were being attacked and you were called to defend it in a pvp situation, would you answer the call? If not why, why not?
Hmmmm... thinking outposts here... I would defend my guild's outpost and then go cry for an hour because I killed people. o.0
8) If you answered #6 and # 7 differently, what is the reason you would take part in one over the other?
Next are you going to have me stick out my tongue and say "aaaaahhhhh"? One is me being aggressive and the other is a defensive position. I am a homin of peace but I do carry a sword... I suck at being aggressive - just ask Raku how hard it is to get me to be the meatshield and pull MOBs.
9) Would you take part in roleplay events and pvp roleplay events if your roleplay position was only valid at the events? In otherwords if you could join events as a Karavan or Kami supporter, then when it's over be considered just a player with no support for one side or the other, would you be more interested in pvp and roleplay events?
Probably not - I'd have to get over my distaste of RP and PvP in the first place. Or if Raku and Oshi explain it to me very carefully.

Re: Players thoughts on PVP and player run events. (Questionnaire)
I don't care about PvP, it's a feature. It can have its uses but for the moment, i see none because there are no stakes nor consequences. Bashing my neighboor's head for the sake of bashing does not interest me. For territorial conflits, ok. (1+2)
(3) none. without GM support, player events are reduced to races and trivias. again, no lasting consequences. They could be fun though.
(9) I support the karavan as an individual, not my guild. But being a supporter does not mean a crusader.

Re: Players thoughts on PVP and player run events. (Questionnaire)
1) Do you like or dislike the general idea of PVP? Why?
I like the idea of pvp, because it's more challenging and require much intelligent and team work to fight human opponents rather than computer controlled mobs.
2) Have you done any pvp? If not why? If you have what did you like and dislike about it?
Yes, quake and counterstrike, guildwars beta, starcraft/warcraft, days of defeat. I like the idea of PVP when there're ingame mechanic that provide a purpose for the pvp, e.g. counterstrike plant a bomb defuse a bomb, winning message when you wipe out a zerx base.
Risk Your Life (great engine crappy content) have a decent pvp system where you have humans vs. demons, with the 1st island of both races being off limit by the other race, and a general arena where humans and demons have to fight for control of 3 towers, and if your race were able to hold all 3 towers for a certain period of time, you'll get honor points rewards where you can trade it in for stuff.
Guildwars does this really well also, where most of the world is PvE with single and cooperative missions (and you can group npc to help you too!), and for pvp you transport to a pvp specific island, signup for pvp with a group or to be randomly place in a group, and proceed up a tourny tree fighting group vs group (fight till you lose) for fames etc. They have lots of different type of pvp, randomly throw at you, such as protect a hero, siege, king of the hill, capture the flag type, etc.
3) Have you taken part in any player events (pvp and nonpvp)? If yes what ones and what did you like about it? If no, why not?
The event I took part in that I liked were the world tour, the kitins event invasion, and npc tribe killing. Haven't done pvp in ryzom because there're no points to it (no reward but you get dp). Right now pvp in Ryzom is like WWF
4) What sort of player events would capture your interest (pvp and nonpvp)?
Boss fights (let's go destroy that cutes armies in PR fallen tree!), world tours (how about one where everyone is mounted?), mass roleplaying event (e.g. a Ball or like those 1vs1 tourney that were held, though I didn't understand why it gotta be race specific).
5) If an event were held that combined roleplay and pvp, would you take part? If not, why not? What would get you to change your mind?
Sure, if I have the time and energy But if the players are immature and it degraded to just smack talking and name calling, I would leave. Roleplaying isn't just about seeing who can make the other person feel bad.
Now if you have a story driven roleplay pvp event ... I am all game.
This will be hard to coordinated however, because you will need to put in place players with pre-scripted dialogues, criteria for winnings, a good story, etc. And by story, I don't necessary mean a story related to the Ryzom lores. It could just be plain ole farmer Bob gitting mad and farmer Joe for stealing his mektoubs.
6) If an event where held where you were asked to attack something in game (npc or mob) in order to invoke a pvp responce, would you do it? If not, why not?
No. I would only do it if there were no penalties in doing so, or if there're penalties, to justify it for good rewards if you do win. Also, the other players to invoke the response against have to know of this before hand/agreed to the event. I don't want to ruin other people gameplay.
7) On the flip side if something were being attacked and you were called to defend it in a pvp situation, would you answer the call? If not why, why not?
Depends on the situation.
8) If you answered #6 and # 7 differently, what is the reason you would take part in one over the other?
n/a
9) Would you take part in roleplay events and pvp roleplay events if your roleplay position was only valid at the events? In otherwords if you could join events as a Karavan or Kami supporter, then when it's over be considered just a player with no support for one side or the other, would you be more interested in pvp and roleplay events?
I would like the option to choose either side. And yes, I don't like to be typecast to be one or the other after the event is over. I don't want to rp 100% all the time. I would like to still be able to play with the other factions players when I am done. E.G. the event is just an event, like when I go paintballing with my friends in the woods

Re: Players thoughts on PVP and player run events. (Questionnaire)
1) Do you like or dislike the general idea of PVP? Why?
I like the feature, but not as an element where the game is revolving around it. The way Nevrax has it now is the way i would choose to have it, though
2) Have you done any pvp? If not why? If you have what did you like and dislike about it?
Not in Ryzom yet, because these is too much to lose (DP) and no reason to risk it. I find it hard to determine with whom to PvP against being a Neutral player. Hopefully i will come to a decision once i have enough information to make one.
3) Have you taken part in any player events (pvp and nonpvp)? If yes what ones and what did you like about it? If no, why not?
I was in Pyr during the guild summit (player run?), many crossings and this 11th there will be a race in Tryker. I like player run events better in a way. They dont feel as scripted.
4) What sort of player events would capture your interest (pvp and nonpvp)?
Non-PVP: Where homins work together to a common goal. Like stated before, clearing mobs (I.E.Psyklopla knoll).
Non-PVP: Competitions
PVP: Defending Outposts
5) If an event were held that combined roleplay and pvp, would you take part? If not, why not? What would get you to change your mind?
Depends on the event and its purpose
6) If an event where held where you were asked to attack something in game (npc or mob) in order to invoke a pvp responce, would you do it? If not, why not?
I would have to be non-neutral to do that act. Possibly in the future.
7) On the flip side if something were being attacked and you were called to defend it in a pvp situation, would you answer the call? If not why, why not?
Same answer as above
9) Would you take part in roleplay events and pvp roleplay events if your roleplay position was only valid at the events? In otherwords if you could join events as a Karavan or Kami supporter, then when it's over be considered just a player with no support for one side or the other, would you be more interested in pvp and roleplay events?
Im not sure i would like that, though some neutral may. It would give them an opportunity to take each event and judge it based on the information the have at that time. Choosing whom to support based on what is happening. Its hard being neutral while at the same time trying to defend your homeland.

Re: Players thoughts on PVP and player run events. (Questionnaire)
I'm probably going to have to go with dislike. I do prefer PvE. But PvP can be fun. I just don't like what it sometimes does to games, and I don't like it to be the main focus.raynes wrote:1) Do you like or dislike the general idea of PVP? Why?
Yeah. I disliked the bad feelings. Friendly PvP is fine. Also I can't hold interest for more than a couple hours. I just get bored with it. But it's challenging and can really give a stronger sense of community as long as it's all friendly.2) Have you done any pvp? If not why? If you have what did you like and dislike about it?
Yes. A lot of them tend to drag, same with events in general. So the boredom is the big dislike. The biggest reason I like them is because it makes me feel like what I'm doing matters outside the context of "level x." Some of them are a lot of fun. And they do a lot of good for the community. Also some of them help to develop the story.3) Have you taken part in any player events (pvp and nonpvp)? If yes what ones and what did you like about it? If no, why not?
Exploration events, Kami/Karavan RP conflicts, games, RP events such as dinners or parties and that kind of thing...4) What sort of player events would capture your interest (pvp and nonpvp)?
I would take part in any event that involved RP, assuming my character had reason to be there.5) If an event were held that combined roleplay and pvp, would you take part? If not, why not? What would get you to change your mind?
Yes, under the right circumstances. I don't like stretching character credibility, and Saiwin is underdeveloped enough as it is, so I would need a good reason, some kind of catalyst.6) If an event where held where you were asked to attack something in game (npc or mob) in order to invoke a pvp responce, would you do it? If not, why not?
Sure.7) On the flip side if something were being attacked and you were called to defend it in a pvp situation, would you answer the call? If not why, why not?
Other than IC reasons, it's hard for me to be the aggressor. I just don't like playing the bad guy, I burn out really fast. Of course I value bad guys a lot, partly because I know just how hard it is, but I really dislike playing the antagonist. I need to feel that my character has justification to act based on his morality - however strange that morality may be. I would have a lot of trouble attacking capriciously.8) If you answered #6 and # 7 differently, what is the reason you would take part in one over the other?
Not really. I'm doing a lot of that in-game now and it's getting to be exhausting. I really need a greater context for RP. But I'm happy to RP in events, of course.9) Would you take part in roleplay events and pvp roleplay events if your roleplay position was only valid at the events? In otherwords if you could join events as a Karavan or Kami supporter, then when it's over be considered just a player with no support for one side or the other, would you be more interested in pvp and roleplay events?
