Ok, today when i tried to log on to Ryzom i got an error message saying:
"This application cannot be started because d3d9.dll can't be found"
and something about reïnstalling to fix the problem, when i click ok i get another message:"nel_drv_direct3d_win_rd.dll not found".
So, first things first, i go look for the files...
seems the d3d9.dll file does not exist, but the other one is in the main Ryzom folder. When i check on another pc, no d3d9.dll there either, and the other one is in the same place as it is on my pc.
So, reïnstalling: first i thought, let's just use the "recover" program in the game... well, after recovering i got the same error. So i reïnstalled the game on the same location; no difference. I reïnstall the game on another hard disk; no difference...
Now i'm wondering, WHAT THE **** (srr for my language, but that is how i feel) is that stupid problem? complaining about files that r either in place or don't exist?
I really like this game, and I'd love to play, but i DO have to be able to start the game first...
missing files? What missing files?
Re: missing files? What missing files?
d3d9.dll sounds like a file used by DirectX. Try downloading and installing DirectX 9. Here's the link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en
Re: missing files? What missing files?
That file is definitely the Direct3D 9 main DLL - if you can't find it on your system, you basically don't have DirectX installed. I'm not sure what happened there - from your post I presume you have already been playing Ryzom? If that's the case, you've either lost your DirectX installation (highly unlikely), or Ryzom was previously using OpenGL and switched to Direct3D for some reason.
Another piece of advice could be to ensure the render option is set to Auto or OpenGL, by using the ryzom_configuration.exe utility (Display > General I think...)

Re: missing files? What missing files?
DirectX is part of the Windows XP install, but it's only version 8.0 or 8.1 if I remember correctly - maybe even version 7 (eeek)
Always happy to help

Re: missing files? What missing files?
yeah, apart from slow download for some reason (I have a broadband connection) all is going well now
Re: missing files? What missing files?
ok, all is working good again now, i'm patching as we speak, thx again for the help, should have done this 3 hours earlier though....
Then i wouldn't have reïnstalled the game and have to repatch now

Talking about reinstalling:rdfall wrote:ok, all is working good again now, i'm patching as we speak, thx again for the help, should have done this 3 hours earlier though....

I did a clean install on a new machine from retails disks for release.
I was quite amazed to see the 230mb patch.
Are Nervax doing anything about this?
I could sit in the I am all right Jack camp, I have 1mb ADSL with no download limit. 56k'ers would stand no chance on this.
Flagging it as something that might want to be looked at.
Re: missing files? What missing files?
Being able to manually download the patches would be a nice addition. That way when a patch is available people can jsut download it manually and apply it. Then if they ever have to reinstall, they can do it all off line and not wait through a couple hundred meg of patching.
Imagine how big the patch download will be after 1 year of being live. We need a way to manually download the patches.

Tell you what, I can ship you my UO cds, install from them and patch for a week, since there''s over 2gb patch lol
So I guess no, the devs aint going anything about it, what do you expect them to do, ship update CDs every 6 months to all the players? :p
