unreal intellegence

Post by dakhound »

after my last thread (the one about the thesos tp) I'm wary of posting about silly things in this game as there usually is a way around them (I think someone even said that). Armed with this information I decided I was gonna finally explore the world starting with Matis, and not bother with DP at all.

journey to the hidden source was nice and easy did it first time with no trouble.

journey through hidden source was the stuff of nightmares. I noticed a few things

1. if you got spotted once you are dead (dont care what lvl you are remember I'm talking solo here)
2. if you found a nice route through the millions of mobs (but didnt make it all the way) you can guarantee next time you try that route there will be 10 kinchers blocking it off.
3. mobs dont always show on radar. especially torbaks
4. some mobs have silly aggro ranges (over 50mtrs)
5. punching your monitor after racking up max DP 90 times over does not help your journey in any way.
6. mobs are not always where they seem to be due to lag catching up with them meaning they with teleport into that gap you just tried to run through.

I did it in then end, but it spoilt any notion of solo exporation for me. People in my guild tell me this is only the second hardest trip between lands and I have to admit I crossed a part of PR easier than this.

has anyone else tried soloing the journeys and noticed any strange behavior from mobs that make your journey harder. Is it part of a sick sense of humour from the devs.

and btw I know your probably not supposed to solo explore

I hate to say it but the source is alot easier to cross then it used to be when i first started playing. Solo exploring is tough but very possible you have to be a true ninja to make it through tho.

*pokes dakhound wondering if hes in the same guild*

Also, solo exploring is fun, and sometimes easier than with small groups because there is less stuff to aggro the mobs :D

Well, I'm afraid it's an easy answer to that one - yes :) If you are spotted by just one Kipesta, Kipucka, Kirosta, Kincher, Torbak (etc.) you are dead - these are aggro mobs, and do their best to live up to their reputations :)
dakhound wrote: 2. if you found a nice route through the millions of mobs (but didnt make it all the way) you can guarantee next time you try that route there will be 10 kinchers blocking it off.

Yup, they'll be the kinchers you aggro'd trying to squeeze through the gap you spotted :D
dakound wrote: 3. mobs dont always show on radar. especially torbaks

This is nasty, and I'm convinced I've seen it happen myself during an organised trip. However, could posibbly be related to....
dakound wrote: 6. mobs are not always where they seem to be due to lag catching up with them meaning they with teleport into that gap you just tried to run through.

Not much the Devs can do about this I'm afraid - lag will always cause client object positions to be in the wrong places. All a game (or any piece of code) can do is try to guess the positions of objects, until up-to-date accurate info is received. It's a pain that it always seems to happen when you take a 'mad dash' through aggro, that's for sure.

And last but not least...
dakound wrote: 5. punching your monitor after racking up max DP 90 times over does not help your journey in any way.

Ouch :) My monitor cost me £500 a couple of years ago, and there's no way I'm punching it :) My tip : get some pillows and cushions on the sofa, then you can punch the hell out of that, and incur less pain/financial cost when you're stressed :)

nope dont mean that....... I mean they block a safe route after you used it, safe being that you avoided the aggros and had no trouble only to die 500m down the road. next time you try that route it will be flooded with aggro.

Good connection is King ... Its just a tough fact of life.

Secret of exploring!

Do it in a pair! you can cross a 50m aggro wall using the following method.

(Mobs don't aggro healer if they use an enchanted heal!)

The method is as follows....

Wait for a gap.
One of you runs through the gap.
If you get through, wait for you friend.
If they get through move on the the next place.

if you die, wait for the aggro to clear, get you friend to heal you till just before you would stand up. Now use and enchanted heal to get the dead person up. Continue.

if your friend dies .... repeat the above till you can get them through.

Extend you dead friends time. Under the new heal system, if you heal someone and it doesn't rez them completely it adds extra time before respawn. This is very useful if you have to wait a long time for aggro to clear.

When solo exploring ..... allow many hours to do it and expect to die alot.

I have stood for up to and hour waiting for a gap to appear.

Look for alternate routes, large groups of fluffies (non aggro). becareful, recently aggro has learn to hide with the fluffies. (*shakes head* naughty fluffies)

I did the Matis to Fyros run with Raynez ... in the heavy aggro days .... sometimes the longway round is the shortest route.

Know what bites and what doesn't....Kibans are not aggro .... even if they look big and scary spider like.

Practice .... the more you learn to sneak the better you get at it..... once you have mastered the very heavy aggro areas eg PR/Nexus/Loria/BB/Heritic Maze. Areas that once seemed impossible now seem like a walk in the park.

Do rush and don't panic.

Aggro moves and migrates .... in different seasons the aggro levels change. In tryker spring has high aggro pops.

Hitting you monitor can seriously damage your wealth.

As i say in one topic near i went through under spring(prime roots zone as you know) where the 2 patrols moving and then fyros and fyros being easy for me , after prime roots. What i can say about hidden source ^) - only 2 death - 1 from lag, another one because i chat with my guild members and doesn't see torbak. BUT before all this i have a all night training in Land of Umbra and i have a tp to tryker here +) but in tryker there is a death for me without speed run(i don't have speed run even now) , stupid monkey's (i mean cute) are always moving and it was very hard to sneak.
And yesterday i just need to find some thing in yrkanis and go to respawn in hidden source , then i just try to find some agro to kill me and it's being LOL but i go all hidden source with only one turn from direct way =).

Sorry just pulling your leg there :)

To be honest mate, this is standard behaviour for mobs. And, if you take the time to study it, you'll see that the herbivores do it too. It's true that a herd of mobs will generally be in a single place, but they do move around (usually a 'patrol' style action, which brings them back to their original position). They will also, occasionally, move a good distance and stay at the new spot. This is more evident with the bigger kitin, especially the Kipucka and Kincher - those guys will travel 100-150M on a standard trip, and sometimes stay well away from where you expected them to be.

Not trying to deflate your argument, but the meaner the mob, the harder it is to track/follow/predict/avoid :)

The mobs smell your footsteps, so they camp there. Try another route.
DP has a max, I think it was 10. Did the same a few days ago btw, and made it pretty far on good eyes and mad luck. Oh, the zoomrange mod (that allows me to zoom out a bit more to see more playfield) helped too. Got a tp in PR, max dp and a lot of non documented xp in sneaking and unrecorded guild fame for getting pretty far as the low-lvl fighter/magician I am.

To anyone: pick a few days where you say to yourself: to hell with xp, gimme dp now! and start exploring, again and again untill you get spawns, tp's, help from others or all three. The dp seems to be maxed at 10 times death, so if you reached 10, dont stop, continue! Press on, the dp is maxed anyway, so why stop?

Also: most mobs move in paths that are stable for a few hours I think. You can just stay put and watch. They either open a sneak for your or have coverage that is so good, you will have to try another way. Or start moving, hit speed, hit inv and hope for a pond over the hill :-)
