Ort,

Understand that most of us (as stated above) have no true dislike for each other. I talked to my arch-enemy (Zen) on almost a daily basis... We have genuine concerns about maintaining our roles in Atys as the game suggest they should be. We don't always agree with each other, but we share a common goal... and that is a game that plays as history suggests it should.

To that end there must be good guys (Melinoe and me) and bad guys (Zen and CP)... HAHAHA... or vice versa depending on your faction

Though there are as many individuals that rub me the wrong way as I do to others, none of that matters IG/IC. We are playing "our" role that fits our playing style as much as any guild that takes a less aggressive stance towards the game storyline. As some of the folks that are standing behind their faction, we DO NOT want complacency... of course we want all working towards our faction goals.

Do I dig in PR, absolutely... is that what a true Matis/Karavan would do... nope... I been bad... But mostly "I" am playing a character as are most of the folks here. You dont have to play this way and shouldn't take a whole lot seriously. From time to time real personality issues will come up as it did just a few days ago... thats gonna happen. Most of the rest are us being the "persona" we have made for ourselves IG and this is as it should be and is understood by most.

For gosh sakes, some folks even think I am nice... DT works hard to not let folks know he is normal (unless he is talking in third person)... That is DT's role in Atys... Play the game as you feel the most comfortable...

There is something for everyone here, but a PvP zone is just that... we all have to be ready for attack and get fair warning when entering the zone. If killed while digging, exploring or trying to get new folks teleports... you did it knowingly in a PvP zone... dont fault anyone but yourself for not being properly prepared etc...

We made a bad call by our mutual pact to not attack any harvesters, now folks feel it's wrong to do. If the designers wanted that, it would have been somehow implemented as such... and truthfully, as we are not getting the support we'd like in faction related things... we don't feel obligated to cover for guilds that wont defend what they believe in.

thing is that you can't have two sides if you don't expect a side. the other fact that you seem to miss is that humans love to battle

perfect example is mixed martial arts. depending on the fighter both of them will talk a lot of trash before the fight, they will touch gloves, without being told and then after the fight they'll shake hands and congrajulate the victor and then not say anything bad till the next fight

thing is they aren't serious and neither are a lot of us when we roleplay, i think you're missing the playing part of the game genre. i mean there's people in game that i think are wankers ig but they're just playing a role, now there's also players i think are wankers both ig and irl

do i seriously think all the kami are scum and should be erradicated? ig yes i do think they should be converted or cleansed, however irl no i don't think that should happen. is this a double standard? not really cause this isn't real, it's just a game

if you don't wish to be involved in pvp, then simply don't enter the pvp zones, it's not like you don't have ample warning as soon as you enter a pvp zone.
Those who are unaware they are walking in darkness will never seek the light.

All the smack talk is just fun and RP. And it's competitive, yeah, but I'd bet $1,000,000 that if Zen and DT met in a RL gathering they'd be laughing and exciting to see each other, like the joke was finally out. I've been doing online things and RL meetings since the BBS days, before the internet. Since we were all 16 year old smartass kids in BBS forums, everyone meeting each other (like 80 of us in Miami after the first few months) has been like an inside joke. It was the same when I met people I used to MUD with.

The one recent incident is a rarity I think. People taking things way, way too seriously. I haven't even been attacked yet myself in ToT. People don't realize that despite all the threats/talk/etc it's only occasionally you'll get attacked by a certain group of people. It's like the gingo freakout after patch 1.

Maybe I didn't catch what you were saying the first time. From reading other peoples responces it sounds like you are thinking all of the name calling, argueing, and attacks against each other are how we feel in rl. Nothing can be further from the truth. Do you know that many times the rp events are orgainized by both sides? There are actual plans where people tell each other "You bust in and call me a genetic matis reject and I'll call you a devil worshipping faceless fool". I know because I have had many of those type conversations.

A very important thing to remember is that our characters have lots against each other. They many hate other races and want to kill the opposing faction. But the players have nothing against each at all and in fact are friendly to each other most of the time.

Look at it this way... When you see two actors or actresses attack or kill each other in a movie or tv show, do you think they hate each other in real life? When you read a book where the author has a character kill another character, do you think the author is an aweful person? Well when we roleplay it's the exact same thing. We are playing parts.

I appreciate all the postings on this thread, some in support, some not.

Roleplaying is a touchy subject to many, as it suffers greatly from differing perceptions, as was pointed out. What is fun for one, can be offensive to another. Our life experiences can be vastly different, and our perceptions differ accordingly. That is why consideration of others is important.

Some players want to RP, others not. Some players want to PvP, others not. The arguements on these topics are endless. What is missing is accomodation of all points of view, without becoming offensive to any.

It was mentioned that this is a mature and responsible community, which infers that it would act accordingly. I will call on this in my followup actions.

As some guilds are considered a threat to others, I have left OmegaV to demonstrate my commitment to not participate in PvP and RP.

I still value my friends in many guilds, in several realms, and look forward to playing with them. Friendship is a large factor in my playing here. I will not give this up.

I choose not to participate in PvP and RP as currently done. These are not fun to me. Much of what RP I have actually encountered, seen, and heard has been offensive, with foul language and invective. It is not the banter of Guild GMs (who often clarify their roles), it is the followup of their members and copycats later. Yet I have not reported it, so far. I will not name names here as this would not accomplish anything constructive.

I have formed a guild of one called Falcon (my old guild name of Eagle couldn't be reactivated for some reason) I craft my own mid level equipment, buy some at NPCs, and occassionally receive some from friends. If this old man is still a threat to you then there is something wrong with your RP.

I will make reasonable attempts to avoid your conflicts, but I wont relinquish my rights to play this game either. I intend to develop my Prime Root Harvesting and go there as appropriate to level up and harvest. It is part of the game that should be available to all.

Yes, you can gank me out, kill me repeatedly, and I will leave the game for good if you do. But you talk of maturity and responsibility, and I count on you being true to your word.

I have recognized a place for PvP in this game. Please recognize a place for me to play without it. The same goes for RP. Just dont hurl it in my face, or remove a major part of the game in the process.

One man's opinion.

An additional point. Should the game situation improve sufficiently in the future, I would consider joining a regular guild again.
