Deposit Tracking and Prospecting.

You know, I vaguely remember a thread mentioning something about logging out for tracking to work.

I periodically get frustrated with it sending me on a wild goose chase - and then sometimes searching for excellent and supreme mats works like a charm (either they're there roughly where they say they are or I get the seasonal/weather message.)

Got me. The worst kind of bug is the one that's inconsistent.

I did a controlled test after starting this thread and I confirmed that for me, a new material specialization does not work with resource tracking until I relog after training in the specialization.

I went into Fairhaven and trained in Minor Oil Prospection. I then created a 500m material tracking that was Choice Only with the Minor Oil specialization. I walked outside of Fairhaven and tried it out. Unfortunately, it behaved like the material specialization wasn't even there. It would lead me to the nearest Choice node of any material type. No matter where I moved in the field, it would tell me I was within 1m because there's choice nodes everywhere in the field.

I then relogged and tried the exact same prospect standing in the exact same place where I logged and it told me the oil was 68m away. I followed the tracking and got right to the oil.

That's three times that a material specialization has failed to work with me right after I trained in it but then works later after I relog. So in my case at least, I think I've got a solution to making them work for me.

I have the skill for weeks.. logged in and out countless times. That cant be it. I tried everything. turning 60, 120 and 180 degrees. Even 360 , changed my range settings from 10 to 40 meters. Cant find the source my tracker found.

OK. we have established its great for finding exelent/superb mats. but thats not what i want to use it for.

The devs keep lauging at me and tell me to ask some other foragers... But they all dont know.

Personally i have the feeling prospecting is a little bugged and not tracking. But thats only my gut feeling.

I have no prove that my theory is right, but it works for me. I like track: I have track 500 meters and all the major prospections (no detailed though, so I don't know if that works). I have ALWAYS up till now found what I tracked. Sometimes it took some time though.

I always went to the tracked spot and when I got the message took a few steps back and prospected with the idea my angle and range would cover the spot. This, as you knew already, does not work. I think it depends on how you approach the spot. Track takes imo your possible prospectlenght in consideration and gives the message when you are ALMOST within range. So with this in my mind I go a few steps (10-15 meters) forward and prospect. Now this works most of the time, but not always.

Imo it also has to do with what angle you walk towards the spot. If you think about the resource and a big circle around it (and on the edge of the circle you get the message that you found it), it seems logical that it is important how you approach the circle to prospect the middle point. If you don't approach the circle as close to 90 degrees as you can, you will not find it.

I hope this made sense. It is all speculation from my side, but I have found all I ever tracked so far. (but don't have the individual materials, like shu fiber etc.).

Doesnt work either (for me).
I am also not using individul materials but just fiber as a group.
I cant imagine it takes prospect lenght in account or otherwise you shouldnt be able to pass it and the meters start to increase immediatly again.. Then you should be able to walk for 80-120 meters and keep the source within 1 meter.

I dont understand you last part... approaching the circle as close as 90 degrees?

Does it mean you need to point towards the middle of the circle when at the edge of the circle? i think thats difficult. How do you do that?

I do that by slowly walking the last meters and go meter by meter till I know i walk a straight line (this by distracting the most meters in 1 step). In my theory that should bring me on the edge of the circle at approx. 90 degrees.

But once again. Pure speculation.

We're talking about two separate problems. In your case, the tracking IS leading you to something. Not being able to find what it leads you to is the problem you're having.

In my case, the tracking fails to work at all until I log out. No matter where I am, it just tells me I'm within 1m. It fails to do the tracking thing until I relog.

If the tracking fails to track, that's when relogging can help. If the tracking does lead you somewhere but you can't find the mats, that's a different problem.

Um, it sure may solve the problems of those whose tracking fails to work.

It won't help those who can't prospect once their tracking does work.

Prospecting with up to supreme .... the sys info reports that the mats of greater quality are around try using a more power prospect!

when do I get my prospecting AWESOME mats then? lvl 300?

I got this same message, but for me it means that my forage skill is too low to harvest the desired mats. Just a bugged message. If this is so then it should say 'your skill is to low'.
