Role-playing communities
Hello. I'm a long-time table-top role-player and I have some experience with mmorpgs too. I am looking for a new game to play and The Saga of Ryzom looks really interesting and atmospheric. I'm not very interested in game-mechanic playing, ie. levelling and optimizing, more about social role-play that consists of actual plotlines instead of just occasional events such as weddings etc. Is there such a community in Ryzom? If so, I would be quite interested in showing my face in there and checking out if the gaming styles match.

Seeing you can post here, you are logged in. Logging in means having an account. Having an account means you can play. What is your in game char?
The roleplaying is nice, but consists mostly of player vs. player action. The community in Ryzom is of a seldom seen high level (on Arispotle at least, I dont know the others, but heard good stories about the US servers), with nice people, that are competent in controlling game mechanics and storyline at the same time.
The quests are not always very well thought out, although that changed quite a bit in the last patch.
A BIG Event we had recently was the kitin invasion in the various lands, that took a whole lot of teaming, skill balancing in teams and community wide communication to take down. Read on the main site about the part this plays in the storyline and see this forum for all posts that tell you how great is was. The number of posts saying it was bad is less, and we both know what that means ona an internet forum .
In Tryker (the Lake Lands) we had I think 50 people (at peaks) working together to archieve the same goal, all means of communication were used liek MSN, ingame chat, IRC, TeamSpeak.
In short, when I think about TTRPG, and how it roughly compares in roleplaying:
With other players : in your own hands, people are nice in general. Dont really expect big in depth roleplaying, most is of the level like the Yubo Liberation Front. A few guild wars too (but very rare)
Within a guild: very good, but again what you make of it yourself
Storyline: slowly getting somewhere, the game is live I think 4 months on a lifecycle that said 5 years?
Quests and missions: Very nice, not as good as some other mmo's out there.
Main reasons to choose Ryzom over WoW:
- Community. Ryzom requires just that tiny bit more intellect to understand too keep the 12 yo's at bay and to entertain the more mature people enough to stay. Very nice people and the more noobs are treated nice, the more they pass it on. This is reason no 1 for me to play.
- Leveling. You *can* level all, you dont have to explore all trees. It becomes very addictive to gain more and more lvl's, cant figure out why myself.
- Graphics. Very good eyecandy and on but not over the cartoonesque border.
- Game mechanics. Same as lvls.
I just think this game is better than WoW because of community. I think it is better than AO because of the look and feel of the world.
Try out and if you see me in game, lemme know!

Re: Role-playing communities
There are a few roleplayers out there (I'm one) and there have been a couple of events. You will find people interested and you will find people who think RP is 'ghey' as you will in any online game.
As they say however, this game is a bit more mature and a bit more open to RP, if you look for it you'll find people with the same attitude and be able to build something up.

Re: Role-playing communities
Ok, I'm the ashke-guy of the previous posts, that was a test account, this I will keep.
So, do the rp-people have some sort of base of operations? Being this new to the game, I don't really know the gaming world. I think the main point is, where should I hang around to run into role-players?

Re: Role-playing communities
No base of operations. Ther is the RP forum, but in game you'll have to jsut take a chance. There are some guilds who specificly encourage RP though. My own guild is one but there are others. Just ask and usually you'll find someone willing to be IC with you.hurme wrote:Ok, I'm the ashke-guy of the previous posts, that was a test account, this I will keep.

Kostika and Jyudas (Grimjim) know how to run a good RP event. The Samsara are a pleasure to RP with. If Fyros is your chosen path, look them up, you'll be sure to find something to sink your teeth into.
If Matis is more to your liking, Stormdancers are keen RPers. As one of their Officers, and a roleplayer for as long as I can remember, I enjoy the freedom to RP in a world so rich with history and lore.

Re: Role-playing communities
If you decide to be Tryker, a nice place for roleplaying can be Fairhaven (main town). Check around a bit and make sure to activate guildnames in your interface settings.
