Read all the sight info and STILL don't get it :)

Post by Blakpyre »

Hello to all ,
Not having participated in Beta, and honestly know NOTHING about this game I have read some info on various websites.
I knwo about the levelling tree etc - what I don't get is the RAID thing and the 'PvP" aspect of the game.
Will it be 'full' PvP (a la Lineage II) or controlled faction vs faction RvR or whatever else you want to call it? Or 'optional' a la EQ 'turn on your flag'?
Sorry - i know it must sound like a dumb question, specillay for people who have been playing Beta for a few months - but I jsut can not get a 'specifc' enough answer for these questions.
Is it going to be 'playable' in North America ( I have friends in other games who are from the EU and that is why they moved to 'European" servers - time diff = no one to play with.
Also do you use guns AND spells to create deired effects? or is it pure fantasy/pure sci-fi - or a blend that allows people to pick.
Just wanting some input - looks like a neat game - but don't want to have to buy it to find out "what it is like"

1. What I don't get is the RAID thing and the 'PvP" aspect of the game.

Most people who've played beta didn't get the chance to see the RAID engine at work unfortunately. Those who were in the focus beta (just before the last open beta), said that it's scary, cool, and a lot like a scene from Starship Troopers where all the bugs are coming at you at once. Yes, I'm drooling too.

2. Will it be 'full' PvP (a la Lineage II) or controlled faction vs faction RvR or whatever else you want to call it? Or 'optional' a la EQ 'turn on your flag'?

From what I've seen, initially, it's optional. e.g. you can duel somebody if they accept your challenge and I think there are arenas for pvp play. Once you get to guild level, I understand that you can go to war guild vs. guild, but I never experienced this so don't quote me on it. With regards to inter-country/ faction type deals, I have no idea whether if you go completely Kami faction for instance, you'll be hated by all factions who hate the Kami including players. I hope this helps somewhat. No it's not like Lineage II or AC DT gankfest.

3. Is it going to be 'playable' in North America ( I have friends in other games who are from the EU and that is why they moved to 'European" servers - time diff = no one to play with.

Initially there is going to be a North American English server, and a bunch of European English, French and German servers. If you want to play with your friends on the EU server, you will not be able to play, or transfer, on the North American server. (at least initially) So make sure you decide with your friends which server you're definitely going to be on BEFOREHAND.

4. Also do you use guns AND spells to create deired effects? or is it pure fantasy/pure sci-fi - or a blend that allows people to pick.

It's a blend (or an even better way of putting it is skills are independent of each other). You can hit stuff with your acid spells one second, shoot them with your rocket launcher the next, then bonk them on the head with your two handed mace after that. There are restrictions of course with regards to armor and such (e.g. the stronger armor you wear, the less effective you are magically), but you have a lot of options with regards to the things you can do. (If you get bored with fighting, you can go harvest materials while you wait to regen health, or you can do some crafting). Note that everything you do is on a seperate experience table. In other words, if you get to level 50 in fighting, there is literally NO PENALTY, if you decide to make 50 levels in magic. You have complete freedom with regards to how you play your character. I guess a better way to put it is if you want to be a mage after trying a fighter, you just concentrate on your mage skills. It's not a class system, no rerolling, heartaches etc. etc.

Hope this helps.

Zeke :)

Just FYI there were at least 2 raids in the last open beta. One of Goo infected Gibbai in the south of Zoria and a second a Fyros.

As to the full PVP

Well from what i understand (this is what makes this game so cool) it all depends on what happens. Since the story can go anyway depending on how we all act. Say everyone does missions for Zoraï (since im a Zoraï) that gains neg fryos fame. Eventually this could lead to war or something to the effect between the two. It seems it'll all be up to us. I just hope they stick with it lol.

There's also a bit of excitement if you gain negative fame with a tribe in that you will have to watch out...cos they will attack you on sight.

I hope we'll see you in game.

I have some pictures from the first raid in the first open beta... be warned, most of my screenshots were me getting screenshots to show off autodegrade to some friends who hated doing raids and looking at the ground :P
