Deposit Tracking and Prospecting.

For some time I have thought (and far from being the only one) that deposit tracking has been bugged. Not generally but for example when using Excellent only.

It has taken me to several sites where I have cast prospect of every kind from several different distances and moved left and right slightly and still found nothing.

I wrote a ticket last night and Turenkarn joined me as we tried to work out what was wrong. This is what we found and I would like to know if anyone else has found similar.

After tracking to an excellent site in front of a wall, casting prospect towards the wall from an 180 degrees ark produced nothing for either of us. However by reversing direction and standing at the wall casting out effectively moving 360 deg in the ark produced 2 different types of excellent mats.

100m away we located another excelllent sap site and same thing, cast found nothing move 90 deg on the ark and ding there they were.

Anyone else found this when using deposit tracking and prospect ?

I noticed that using a large angle will sometimes find you nothing, but turning a bit will make you find stuff in the triangle you search earlier.
When thinking about it, it is just the way the angle is implemented. Long techical story, but I think an angle is a way to increase the chance to find. The server knows there is a spot in your search area and distibutes nodes among the triangle you scanned. It can be that these locations are scanned already, but the triggerspot (the spot that *has* to be scanned to make sources pop up) was just missed.

Hmmm, triggerspot, yes that is it! The sources are around it some too, the further from this, the less. I *would* explain the overlap thing...

i had a strange thing with prospecting

i prospected downhill and got the mats

i prospecter uphill from ahead of the mats i just found standing to the other side and could not find anything

going back uphill i still could find them

so i think theres no angel up in prospecting but it is down.. kinda strange imho

Well this was on flat ground in matis, we took turns standing on the 1m or less spot indicated by tracking and moved round casting in an ark.

Distance was not the issue as we used 60m to 5m on prospect and it still didnt show up.

However angle was.

About the downhill thing:

No it is not, you can heal throught the countryside too. Point is that prospecting doesnt use ground lvl, but goes straight ahead and as you say, down. But not downhill following the ground, just forwward. It appears that a curtain hangs from your invisible scan that touches all below.

Yeah, it have something to do with hills but also "mini-regions". For instance, choice smart shell spot at the root near Matisian Border Guard Outpost and kincher. If you are 2m from the root you can find spot right in front of you. If you take 2 steps back, you'll get "You have entered towerbridge way" message. If you prospect again (with any range or angle) there is no spot to find.

Go above Templedoom (Abyss) and prospect to find spots inside the tunnels.
Don't think that they can fix this one.

Hmm did you try moving 5 meters away and use a big angle and range? sounds logical to me but i never use tracking even if your angle is 90 you will still start with a little peace infront of you > \/ < you could be just missing spots..

No we did, i even went 30m back on 90deg 40m and nothing, moved to 5m and set it to 10m 90deg and also nothing.

hmmm at least this puts my mind a rest, and I'm not going insane. I've witnessed this situation plenty of times and thought it was just something I was doing wrong .

Now at least I know it does not change at a higher lvl and it happens to others
