Ryzom Early Days Review on JustRPG

Post by wendelius »

For those interested in comparing opinions, I just posted my "Early Days Review" (ie not the definitive one but an article to explain what the game is like and how it plays right now, in order to help our readers decide whether Ryzom is a game for them) of SoR on JustRPG ( http://www.just-rpg.com ). Check it out or not. See if I care. ;)

Have to agree it was well written, but just a tad or two of the facts are not straight. As far as I can remember, childbirthing was *not* to be in at launch. I'm quite sure the devs said this a few times.

As for the little launch bugs (not the big ones like pathing and such) are nothing to lose sleep over. Look at all MMO launches these days. WoW will set a new standard for the BEST launch with the WORST grind: ever.

This game is simply more *fun* than WoW will ever be. At least you compared it to a game that would be launched around the same time and not one that has had 3-6 years of development time :(

Personally, I would have raised the score by 5 now and added 8 to the "patch two" score you have there, but now we're getting into personal opinions.

At least it wasn't a pain to read, great job on the writing. :)

Thanks for the comments guys. Glad you enjoyed reading it. I was feeling in danger of going overboard on the length of the article. But there are so many things to tell about Ryzom and so many interesting aspects to the game that it was hard to stop. :)

Your point on childbirthing is taken Neiana. I've been on the Ryzom boards since January or so and I wonder if this "not in launch" announcement wasn't made shortly before the open beta? You're right. It's been known a while but it was still an interesting aspect of the FAQ's back when I started following the game.

As for WoW, it's all a matter of opinion. I didn't feel it a grind at all because that game made me a quest addict. I kept running from one NPC to another, promising myself to do just one more quest before logging off, and kept doing that for hours. The levels just came naturally as a result of the questing. Personally, I found the game polished and fun. But that's very much my personal opinion. And it doesn't detract from the fact that I was the first in my usual group of friends to buy Ryzom and recommend it to my friends. :)

starting with 1 magic pack and getting heal 1 instead of acid1 is supposed to change in patch one I remember reading in a post one of the Themis folks made recently.
