Merchant Prices

Post by zukor »

It seems their is a problem with the merchant prices.

At first, the percentages they quoted were way off, so that a "30%" markup was actually more like 80%. With part 2 of patch 2, they fixed this, so the markup values are correct. HOWEVER, when you actually click on the button to sell the item (either for resale or not, it doesn't matter), the price you are told you have received DOES NOT MATCH the price the merchant quotes you. Also, the markup amount, if you sell the item for resale, doesn't come close to what the merchant screen indicated that it would.

This is very annoying because at this point I don't really know what I'm selling my items for until after I click the sale button.

Has anyone else noticed this? Watch the text that flows accross the bottom of the screen AFTER you hit either sell button (for resale or just to NPC), and see if it matches the offer you got from the merchant.

I think what happened is they fixed the markup amounts in the merchant area, but somehow didn't also connect the new numbers with the actual amounts the merchants pay (so they are still paying by the old, now removed, numbers that we can no longer see).

Are you by chance only selling to the Yrkranis Stable boy? I have found that he does not sell you merchandise for the price quoted but if I go to the Tool Merchant I'll get the correct price. For some reason the stable boy is stripping off the fame related bonuses.

Actually this problem reflects all the different merchants I've been to in Pyr, at least 6 of them. It appears to be universal in Pyr.

Please note this has nothing to do with fame, BTW. The markup percentages should correspond if fame was the issue, but they do not.

I have noticed this problem too.

The price I see when I go to sell something does not match the total amount of dappers I get once I have click the sell button (it works the same for sell to NPC or to players).

The green text that shows at the bottom of my screen and in the system window says I am getting about 2000 dappers less than the quoted price in the vendor screen. Not that I really mind what the price is but why doesn't it just show the correct price so I don't have to guess or find out afterwards.

To throw in my 2 dappers, as a newbie I'm experiencing the same thing, both on the newbie isle and in Yrkanis. When I sell my wares to an NPC, it tells me I'm going to get X dappers. When I click "Sell to NPC", I actually get about 80% of X. I figured it was a built-in markdown, but was still a bit puzzled by it.

Right, the 80% figure more or less corresponds to my experience also. I don't believe there is supposed to be a "built-in markdown". What the merchant says they're going to pay is what they are supposed to pay.

Even worse, the markUPS are totally wrong. The markup amount is correct on the merchant screen, but the amount the item will actually sell for is totally different. Let me give an example:

Sell a Q50 Blam Sword for base price 3000 dappers. Markup 30% so the resale price is shown to be 3900. What I actually see after I hit the sell button is something like:

"Sold for 2615 dappers. If the item is bought you will get an additional 1783 dappers". Note that the percentage is totally different from the 30% on the merchant screen. Thus, I have no idea how I'm actually pricing the items I'm putting up for resale, until after I sell them.

Very annoying.

Yep, same here with the dartboard pricing. After I saw this thread, I did a mektoub space clearing armor and jewelry grind yesterday and while selling tried to figure out the pattern - only thing I can say is that the 80% rule seems about right for direct sales, and with player listed items it became maddeningly hard to figure out to the point where I just crossed my fingers and gave up. Did so in 4 cities in Tryker/Matis so its widespread.

Also confirm the Matis stable boy bug, which I have reported a number of times...he doesn't care for fame. This time it cost me 112k more to buy a mount than it should have. Grrrr.

Would the devs please take the suggestion to let us set our own prices as well as markup again seriously? None of this would be happening if we could.

Thanks for adding your confirmation. The only thing I would add is that none of this is supposed to be happening now. The merchant screen clearly lays out the amount your item is supposed to re-sell for. The fact that the final figures he gives you (after you hit the "sell to other players" button) don't correspond to that is simply a bug. Once it's corrected, you will know exactly how much you're selling your items for.

Cerest, I sent a ticket and talked with a GM in-game about this last week. I had really hoped it would be fixed with the latest patch, as it seems this would be quite easy to fix, but it was not. Do you have any more information about this problem?

Yeah, I'd just like the opportunity to sell a full set of jewelry for 100k rather than 9956*2 plus 9898*2 plus 9944*4 plus 9770*2 plus 9890*2. :) But back to the regular topic...

Understand, and sympathize, but it would screwup to some extent their system with having the merchant pay you a basic rate. They need to control the basic rate, obviously.

I'm not looking for anything so advanced right now. I'd just like them to fix the current system so that it works the way it's supposed to.
