possible dp change?

Post by lootking »

k i went afk 8 hours ago, right after dying. i come back just now, did one harvest, and it reported i no longer have a death penalty, after knocking off 27k.

is this a bug or is this a new change? or is this just a strange occurance? is dp now removed over time?

edit:

my bad, when i went afk, the death penalty for one death for me last night was 174 000 approx. it only took 27k 8 hours later and i had no dp

I did read that a feature was being implemented where DP would disappear over time.

"The Death Penalty will now slowly disappear by itself after three irl days max"

See the release notes for the ATS :
http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9538

Not found anywhere that these have been implemented on the live server....

You can't? Oh sorry thought everyone could! Must be cos I was FBT. :)

Here's the post (relevant bit in bold):
tecapio wrote:RELEASE NOTE

Thursday 30th, 2004 - ATS patch 33

SPECIAL NOTE

Introducing: Ritual Missions!

Keep an open eye on your Encyclopaedia: by accomplishing some tasks, and fulfilling pre-requisites such as level and fame , you may unlock some Rites!

Be prepared, and receive some surprising rewards. Each Rite unlocked and accomplished will reveal a bit of Atys' history.

Intoducing: Mektoub Mounts !

Mektoub mounts are on sale, but beware as from now on all Mektoubs get hungry!

Here are a few hints on how to keep your mektoub in good shape:

At running speed, Mektoubs consume food for energy. When their energy is too low Mektoubs slow down.

At walking speed -which is still faster than a walking homin - Mektoubs don't consume any food.

This is valid for all kinds of Mektoubs; mounts and packers.

So be careful, if you are riding a running mount, and would the packer following you begins to starve, it would slow down until you feed it or it would stop following you.

We highly suggest you go to the closest stable, buy some food for your Mektoubs and put it in their inventory.

WHAT'S NEW

[ M i s c e l l a n e o u s ]

There is now a maximum amount of mobs that can agro your character at the same time. If a mob from a higher level then yours comes into your agro, he will take the place of a lesser level mob on you.

As Encyclopaedia comes live, this has an effect on the tasks and missions you might be doing at the moment. As a result of this, we will clear the asks and missions which are active: New players will receive the Welcomers missions, and players on the main lands will receive introductive missions to rites.

Any other open mission shall be cancelled automatically.

The Death Penalty will now slowly disappear by itself after three irl days max.

[ M E K T O U B ]

As Mektoub packers of various levels are available, some descriptions have been added to them when browsing the Stable boy inventory.

[ F I G H T ]

Each stanza using "circular attack" has its own value. The description texts have been also modified in order to be more understandable.

[ I n t e r f a c e ]

You can set up your 'resolution' and 'details' preferences at login.

You can browse the hand bar by scrolling your mouse wheel.

Guild members are now displayed with a different colour in the radar.

[ P v P ]

Allies / enemies / neutral are now displayed with different colours in the radar in PvP faction areas.

The Space / Ctrl-Space keys have been adapted to PvP events :

Space targets another player if he chose another faction than yours in this PvP event. If one of those 2 players did not choose a faction, he is going to be targeted if he is not in his team or his guild.

Ctrl-Space targets other player from the same faction as yours. If one of those 2 players did not choose a faction it will cycle target other members from your team.

[ C R A F T I N G ]

All armour craft stanzas have been tuned with classes (1, 2 or 3). The class 2 armours have now 1.5 times more HP than class 1 armours. The class 3 armours have now twice as much HP than class 1 armours.

BUG FIX

[ M i s c e l l a n e o u s ]

Teleport tickets can be used after cancelling their use, no more need to relog.

[ I n t e r f a c e ]

The "hit rate" stanza has been corrected. The in-game names of these bricks should now be correctly displayed (translated)).

The emote menu has been simplified.

Some players experienced problems with the Opengl full screen mode while using an XP theme desktop.

There is now a scrollbar for the item part selection in the crafting interface.

[ M E K T O U B]

You can now drag and drop to a Mektoub packer after a teleport.<br>

[ P v P ]

Limits of the FFA matis arena has been reviewed.

You can now assign a shortcut to the Fame window and Encyclopaedia windows.

[ T R A D E ]

Prices displayed in your trade window now display the right fame, and only once.

27k DP is nothing :) DP XP depends on your highest lvl, mine is forest forage, so when i did i get x11-12 or so whatever XP i would have normally gotten. So I get 16k-17k a dig...
In response to the ignorant players out there:

I have more heart than anyone would know :) I will let you in on a little secret... I am doing this for my newborn daughter... no one else... I like that game, but I do not have the time anymore. My first priority is to my daughter. End of story.

The exp gained during DP penalty, is the raw exp, i.e. unadjusted by your current level.
Take a note of the exp during and after DP (same action, level etc.)
If I remember correctly the formula is:
[normal exp]=[raw exp]/[0.1 * current level of action used]

This is a nice change. Some days are just bad and the dp piles up and logging on you look forward to removing hours worth of DP. It's nice to know that while I'm offline and angry, my life is getting a bit better online.

The dp drop if off line is great. Gives a reason to log and recharge yourself. You can realy get to playing way to long. Its a good addition to the game.

I agree that some people play too long (myself included :) )

Having said that, I'm against this change. IMO, the death penalty in ryzom is already too low, and there is a lot of careless gameplay as a result. It hardly matters whether you are a good player or not, it seems. You will still rack up exp just as fast if you play enough hours, especially now.

I'd like to see a dp that rewards careful players, and forces you to really immerse yourself in an alternate reality where death means something.

I know many will disagree. This is just my 0.02.
